Yeah what Mattias said - if he wants to edit the footage himself, then he buys the footage from you.

I feel for you, I'm in a, sort of, similar situation. I've done a short doc for a group, done a few things for them & never had any problems. Their manager is a friend, known him for years and a really nice guy (no problems with him). The real problems came when the main guy decided he wanted to change the focus of the doc away from a "making of their first single" and towards a doc about him - no problems, just interviewed him, reused footage i already had and he loved it.

However, when it came to paying me i got the "Oh, sorry, we've spent the money we were going to use to pay you with!" and add insult to injury the cheeky fucker asked if he could have it for free, with the promise that he'd pay me later! Well we didn't sign a contract and I told him (to his face), no money no doc and if he didn't pay up soon i'd delete the whole thing!

Be tough with these people, I know its unpaid, but if they want to take the piss then make them pay or just simply keep the footage without them in and delet the project & move on.

If you've done a few things and are getting work, you need to start charging. It doesn't have to be loads, but it has to be something & always make a contract regardless of whether its paid work or not!

It's a live and learn situation... You may as well come out of it with something to show for your hard work, even if the band release something you do not want your name associated with.

I would probably be the bigger man here and just let them have the footage, with a written contract stating that you are allowed to release an edited version, for use in your portfolio/showreel.

That sound bad but i like your approach no money no honey right in the face. Did you write you won contract or did you pay for it

Since i don't have the money for a proper contract from a legal source is there a template that i can use here where it would say that i can use the final video for my portfolio.

sorry about the top i don't know what i did with merging

  2. Here is another kick they want to enter a CBC searchlight contest worth 50k its a long shoot if they win but if they do now there is money involved.

And CBC one of the rules i really don't like Your Submission will become the property of CBC and will not be returned to you i don't fell right about this and this By submitting your Submission (which includes Your Song and Your Video), you grant CBC a royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive, irrevocable, unrestricted, worldwide license to publish, reproduce and distribute your Submission in all media.

I am not sure is there is any cash prize most of the 50k is in equipment for the band and professional help which i really don't care about i mean if they get 50k in equipment that is fine by me but if there is money cash involved that is another story.

Ah for FUCK SAKE my first work has to turn in to lollapalooza

  3. Hi guys i shoot produced edited the whole 9 yards music video for free no money was exchanged or contract written for a local rock band ( i am making my portfolio and gaining experience). I delivered finished music video on time that i agree on resalable 3 weeks turnaround 3 reversions with a client ( they are not paying client but i am approaching this as professional and as paying client) and they love the finished video we all head input on the look and fell of the video. Lead singer of the group become  professional editor over night since he seen some videos on you tube how to use avid. I told him there is more to editing then just buttons its a craft/art. Other 3 member of the group love the final edit but this main guy is now asking me to give him raw files so he can make changes of course nicely and politely i told him no that was not the deal at all and they head enough time to change what ever they like to a point. 3 other band member are staying out of it

Before anything started i told them in the email that they will get 3 reversions full production editing, camera, lightning all the gear was provided by me and location but final edit is my to make and after final edit all the original files will be deleted and no money will be made of the original raw files sold ect so i can move on to next project.

He basically is saying that legally those files are his since he is in the picture. I told him under Canada law since contract was not made and nothing was written or specified those files are my to do what ever i wish plus i have the original email them agreeing on the terms i asked for.

My question is i have few more music videos coming up under same deal should i have some basic contract written up?

Any ideas or insight would help

    Thanks guys

  4. Dude that was awesome this shows that you don't need some expensive raw recording camera to have a good looking music video. I love technology but when story gets me i forget all that. Only thing i can comment on is editing there are some cuts where its to fast specially at beginning i would hold not have so many cuts but that is me. Good work on all front

UK Beaches my few quote from snatch

Avi: Shut up and sit down, you big, bald fuck. I don't like leaving my own country, Doug, and I especially don't like leaving it for anything less then warm sandy beaches, and cocktails with little straw hats.

Doug the Head: We've got sandy beaches...

Avi: So? Who the fuck wants to see 'em?

oh yeah? wanna try? i'll shoot one for you to have some fun :)

Some examples I look for when shooting for twixor Alternate Motions, Specular Highlights, Duplicated Frame, Limited Reach, Noise and Compression Artifacts and my fev Picket Fence problem twixor is nice but to say that it is a solution with no problems where you can just take any camera and just shoot what ever is not reality

I had the BM production camera before and there was the problem with FPN wich could be annoying some times and it seems some ursa mini owners are experiencing the same problem. The pocket camera however is a masterpiece. Pity it doesn't shoot slowmotion. But as for Red Raven, its a very interesting camera indeed.

ursa mini or red if i head to pick man same price even if red in 1000 more i would go red all the way. Lots of people have problems just google it with ursa it like they release the camera you buy it and then over time it will get to what they promise in the first place with updates and fixes. Reds have great history and are workhorses specially red 1 and red one mx are still great cameras. and can be found for under 4k. There was guys selling fully loaded red mx with 2 master prime red lenses for 10k what a deal.

    Hello

Right now im shooting with the blackmagic pocket camera wich is absolutely amazing. However, it doesn't really suit me well since its quite small and i have it mounted on my Dji Ronin. Another reason is that i shoot musicvideos and they often require slowmotion wich the pocket camera doesn't have. Therefor im looking for a new camera to buy and the ones iv been looking into are the new Ursa mini and Red Raven. It seems like Raven is better suited for gimbals wich makes it very interesting. The price of the ursa mini and specs are tempting aswell. The only problem with ursa is the size imo. The fields i work in are musicvideos and movies.

Wich one is the better choice for me? and in terms of image quality, do these two cameras mach?

If you are making living from your music videos and are serious about what you do then by all means get a red they have great cameras great support and non of those problems that black magic cameras have. You can allays rent lenses

Oh and i dont know if you know red user marketplace has red cams fully loaded ready to shoot in you price.

red scarlet mx ready to shoot and come with canon mount $8500

wait a bit, get a BM micro cinema, it has 60fps, when you need slower use twixtor,  shoot raw, well exposed and with OK post, on youtube no one will tell it from Alexa,

    very cost effective solution for music videos;

the only thing it is ridiculously small and most of the 'artists' will not take you seriously, so yeah,  shooting on Red adds to your resume you want it or not,

but your demo and your price are the two major decision making factors,

good luck, and post some music videos!

well twixor is nice but it also creates problems if you don't shoot right in camera slow mo is always better looking.

on youtube no one will tell it from Alexa. Oh common now you can totally tell the difference when you use alexa and master primes grading ect ect

Well, Alexa is way to expensive for my budget. At the moment, Raven is most interesting because of size and slowmotion capabilities. About Sony fs7, actually i haven't thought of that one. Though it seems to be quite big, similar to ursa mini. Also, its the problem with lenses. I have two pair of Samyang EF lenses wich i can use with either raven or ursa.

Though i dont think Raven price has to be that big. The only thing i need to buy is brain + jetpack as it can be powered through the ronin and controlled through wifi and a 3rd party monitor.

@bzpopBM micro cinema camera is really interesting indeed! btw here is a showreel of most of the things iv done

nice reel but dam dude that techno music that is all over web and u reel is dam annoying i just mute it

You don't seem to have a scope image at all. Perhaps it's actually a 1:3,55 image, (16x2)x9. More than even Cinerama (which needed a curved screen in any case), almost Polyvision. Very unfortunate to frame, impossible, really impossible for any kind of storytelling, because every cut becomes a jump cut. Why don't you just crop the image to get the AR?

Hi Axel try to answer you question i am using BMPCC with metabone speedbooster attached to Yashica ML 50mm lens with Kowa B&H

You said to crop the image? is this done after i properly squeeze my 2x anamorphic in premiere by right clicking on it or i dont let premiere do any squeezing i do it manually.

What do you mean by AR

Here is the sample of the basic 2x stretch i this to wide This is BMPCC with metabone speedbooster attached to Yashica ML 50mm lens with Kowa B&H foot and half away from the object

    Thanks

  13. I am doing something wrong here.

    1 - I created new sequence 1080 by 800

2 - I right click on my anamorphic video went in to conform to anamorphic2 it squeezed my anamorphic to proper size

3- Keep existing settings when i drag the file in to  sequence

4- Then went in to effect motion tab used scale height scale width to equalize the 2 x in to 1080 by 800

As you can see in the image my left side 2x look properly squeezed but the image on right side does not look right at all specially bears head which is oval in shape not round.

Thanks guys for your help i an new to this premiere

  14. Hi guys its 2 am here and i am going crazy trying to get 2.35:1 aspect ratio from 2x kowas for B&H speed boster and bmpcc how exactly do you guys do this in premiere pro. I am new to premiere if you can just dumb it down for me it would be awesome. Do you first interpret the footage to 2.1 aspect ratio the work on it.

And what exactly is 1.333 aspect ration when i use 1.333 in interpret footage pixel aspect ration i would use 1.333 and i get nice crop is this famous 2.35:1

There are samples of 1.333 and 2x stretch

    Thanks

oh well next time - i need to plan the films better.

    all a learning experience.

also Canada had Rob Ford.  And the previous prime minister was a right-wing bully. Canada has its own set of problems.

America isn't the best, but it is a nation of over 300 million to Canada's 35 million people.  That's a lot more people to set rules towards and run.

Plus America, for better or worse, is the world economic leader - that comes with responsibilites.

Granted, America has some real nuts, but so does Canada.

While there are many fine Canadians, you also have Justin Bieber.

Justin Bieber America he is all yours have fun

  16. American politics is a joke man. You have racist idiot trump born with every spoon up his ass  who is business man first of all and will exploit the American people and the office. Then build some wall and have Mexico pay good luck on that one and now Muslims you mean Muslim world same world that does bazillion dollars of business with USA you mean Saudi Arabia that does shit load of business with racist idiot trump same Saudi Arabia that trained and payed for 9/11. That idiot is just screaming and we have sheepole screaming back trump fuck yeahhhhhh. I am Canadian and politics here is nice and quiet we elected the prime minister and that was it no shows no racism no bitching and moaning. But as we know its the corporations who decide American policies big lobbies and not goverment.
