  1. So I have MfT black magic 2.5k and sigma 18-35 on the way with speedboster made for BMC now I just found out I can't control aperture on my sigma with dumb adapter. Since BM don't have those control contact point how is aperture controlled by camera?

Hi, I know this is old post, but wanted to ask if you get any signs of vignette or image degradation on the corners using a BMPCC speedbooster (0.58x) on a BMCC? I have a BMCC and I had an XL speedbooster (0.64x) but sold it. I'm looking into the BMPCC speedbooster, but I have those concerns. Thanks!

Hi there still debating which speedboster to get did you get any?

  3. Hi guys can Pocket Cinema Camera OG -Metabones Speed Booster 0.58x Canon EF Lens to BMPCC OG work with black magic cinema camera 2.5k any issues you see here ? I was looking also at new BMC 2.5 speedboster specifically made for BM 2.5k

  4. Would EF - MFT mount Speed Booster XL 0.64x work on old BMC 2.5K camera ? Metabones says The Speed Booster XL 0.64x is similar to the Blackmagic-specific 0.64x BMCC Speed Booster (MB_SPEF-BMCC-BM1), but has been completely re-designed to meet the following requirements) also I can see in the chard circles that’s it will work what do you guys think I am thinking of using this new speed booster with adapter for my yashica lenses

Looking at the product pages on Metabones' site, this note is interesting:

I don't know if the standard speed boosters can be powered by micro usb - I'd find that out before considering one if you have a BMCC 2.5k and want to use electronic EF lenses.

Hi I don’t need electronic option since my lenses are vintage

The Metabones micro43-EF Speedbooster product pages have info on certain types/models of manual focus lenses which are not compatible due to having rear protrusions which could damage the Speedbooster e.g.:

    General m43-EF Speedboosters:

    https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-m43-BT3

    https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-M43-BT4

    BM-only m43-EF Speedboosters:

    https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-m43-BT8

    https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-M43-BT9

(scroll down to the 'Manual Focus Lens Compatibility' section near the bottom of the page)

Yashica is not on the list.

I did some digging and I found this article using xl speedboster EF to m43 with adapter

Here’s a 2021 Update: You don’t have to do this for modern speedboosters like ULTRA and XL, mine fitted perfectly on the viltrox EF to MFT with cheap ebay CY adapter (Except I had to turn the glass of speedbooster to fix infinity focus) but that’s a seperate issue.

On the Metabones some lenses might scratch the velvet side only slightly so maybe if you don’t want that you can trim the pins just slightly but not the whole way using a professional or at home with metal cutting plier.

I think author uses old gen speedboosters since it’s 2016 but I also read this post while my lens is arriving by post and I panicked a lot and this post made me panic even more having to do this to a rare lens.

  7. Can I use adapter in front of speedboster since I can’t find a specific one for my camera. I have old BMCC 2.5k m43 but can’t find specific one for my yashica mount can I just purchase EF to M43 camera mount then use EF to yashica adapter is this recommended or big NO

    Thanks

You can adapt various mounts to EF, such as Pentax, Nikon F, M42 and Yashica Contax. The latter youn cannot adapt to Nikon as the flange distance is larger. Nikon F has one of the largest if not the largest flange distance of any 135 film cameras. You can adapt Nikon lenses to EF but not the other way around. See flange distance on wikipedia as it lists the different mounts and flange distances. The you can check if adapters for different combinations of mounts are available.

Thank you for the info so basically metabons speedboster EF I can use my yashica lenses with adapter ?

The Bmcc booster is specifically suited to the sensor. Printed letters on the shell are indeed bmcc. There is another 0.64 booster without this specific bmcc lettering for the Lumix GH line besides a similar 0.71 model. Contax to EF adapter and you are set. Had been using ef to contax. Just test out some of these very affordable adapters. How have you been using your Yashica ML lenses, with an ef to mft adapter?

I see I believe I just bought non specific MFT to CY yashica speed buster like one in the image for black magic pocket then I just used it in my BMCC 2.5k when I bough. I found some images  of my sled buster I don’t see any BMCC markings

You mentioned I can buy  Canon EF Lens to BMCC Speed Booster and just sue adapter between my yashica and speedboster ?

    Thanks for you help

It's the 0.64 version, specifically built for the Bmcc. It has it printed on top of the plastic shell. Check out the official website:

    https://www.metabones.com/products/details/mb_spef-bmcc-bm1

Ef version. Contax to ef mount can be connected with an adapter. I imagine you already know that.

But haven't you been handling speedboosters a lot before?

Have you settled for Zeiss or Yashica ML?

Hi yes I did have this setup 7 years ago sold it all but now I am buying my old gear back. Owned pocked cinema camera with speed booster but it did not have any markings of  BMCC then I remember I just kept it and used it in BMCC2.5k

you mentioned I can used ef speed booster made for BMCC with yashica adapter ?  I ever know that would that introduce any issues ?

    thansk for your isn

  12. Hi guys looking to build set of lenses i i am focusing mostly on Carl Zeiss vintage lenses there are so many out there with same name what are the most looked after Carl Zeiss Planar T* ? And do they cover 6k or full frame?

    Thanks

They will cover the frame but why choose such cheap lenses for such a good sensor?

because money is the problem i guess cameras are mowing to full frame in the near future just looking for good set to buy

What set of primes would you guys recommend under 500 a lens
