There is never going to be focus peaking through the hacks, right now they have no way to program things for themselfs, they just modify the existing code.

Actually if you put a smaller aperture in front of the lens and not too far away, it will act like stopping down. So it doesn't only take away light transmission, it also widens the dof. You can try this out.

Posts in the subforums just don't seem to get anywhere near the number of eyeballs that topics in the main forum do. It's a shame, there's some great stuff in the screening room sub-forum. I think the issue is it's just too diffuse, with each video in its own thread (and sometimes, if people haven't embedded it properly, it's another click away), plus some things are in the GH4 or ML specific threads. I can see the point of gear-specific threads, but I don't just want to see stuff shot on the same cameras that I have, and I don't think its healthy to have a gear conformity attitude (remember Kendy Ty!)
 
I think screening room would work really well as a long single thread. It would be a one-stop site where you could see what people on the forum are up to and get some inspiration (or, if you're watching one of my contributions, look at an urban cityscape you've seen in countless other videos cut to a hip soundtrack with some speed ramping and a LUT or two. Yeah I know my limits)

Bullshit, the d810 still skips lines so the DR in videomode is far way from those 14.8 stops you get with stills.

There is more to shots than the camera and the lenses. If yourself would shoot beside that guy with the 5dmkiii and some old MF lenses you would get almost the same results(minus the focus pulling,etc...).

I dont know about the e series but with the older nikkor-s 50 1.4 (the first one) i get the lenses so close I fear to scratch them.
The lens itself isnt a stellar performer but it has a very nice caracter. Black and White nightscenes look specially great.

Yeah, with the hack you can grade your videos, because the compression artifacts almost dissapear. Before you couldn't do anything because the ugly blocks would show with any minor adjustment. I finally came up with a workflow which gives me exactly the look I like (you just have to film with white balance off a little into the blues and remove it later with a curve, suddenly the color problems seem to be gone). The only thing I miss is detail on far subjects, but that's a thing for 4K.
 
I will keep the d800 until a 4K 10bit internal camera comes around which also offers the d800 stills quality (unless used phase one backs go under 3000€, I want that iq280 so badly).

Let's hope you won't need to look for a lawyer because of some company not liking one of your reviews.

I guess GH4 with a speedbooster, because you have so much resolution to play with you won't miss the 4:3 ratio you can get in ML.

It's a 36,3 megapixel sensor. It is never going to be perfect in 1080p.
 
Comparing it to a XT-1 is silly though. Horses for courses. It's like saying the Arri Alexa is stupid because of the form factor, the GH4 is much more convenient to use...

The 5D3 might be king of stills if you compare it to the gh4, but for the price difference you can buy fullframe cameras that give better quality than the 5Dmkiii.

I have to say I am absolutely blown away by it.
 
The low light performance and dynamic range transformed the image... the shadows when graded were silky smooth with a fine noise grain, but it had latitude to catch the illumination realistically... and when the light source bounced against the shadows it looked like film... very nice. I believe it was shot externally to an Atomos Ninja... no signs of moire or aliasing and detail was good...a little soft and filmic but not exactly lacking in fine details and would sharpen nicely.

DR is worthless if you have to put it into 255 values (8bit), if you shoot flat = banding, if you shoot with a normal tone curve=low DR. Anyway, that doesn't mean the a7s will be terrible.
