How do people on here think this camera will affect others, I mean a 2k full frame camera with that set of features will surely impact the gh5/fuji xt1 etc. You will really really need the 10 bit, 4k 60 fps of the Gh5 to buy a camera with a minuscule sensor compared to this one. More so that in some case even in video it will be better like DR, auto focus and low light.

What's that, is it common with Sony cameras?

RED and Foxconn to create range of affordable 8K prosumer cinema cameras

I can only see it viable for advertising wall, shop window etc. Where someone can stand 1 mt from a store front etc and see the product as a photograph. If else it is a massive waste of space. 360 VR could benefit from it, but it is very restricted and never for narrative story base cinema, where story driven is based on the director showing what he wants to construct the story. If else it becomes much more like a game. Imagine if you are watching a terror movie and look at the back of the actor every-time. There would be zero suspense. 360 VR has it use but in very limited way, I remember a BBC 360 video of an Iraqi helicopter over Mosul. It was very immersive. -

Does anybody care, I would say that a true 4k image is already too sharp, I am distracted when things are too sharp like in the Hobbit and I don't see anybody outside of geeks interested in 4k. Most TV channel are either 720p or SD in the world and most people are not bothered at all. I myself is a bit of a image geek and cannot understand people completely satisfied with SD image, more so beyond 4k is just ludicrous. In fact we might go completely reverse like from CD to Mp3, much to my disapointment, I see a whole generation completely growing up watching Films on Tablets or worst on phones. -
Nikon ! system already had PDAF like 6 years ago.The sensor was not made by Sony.

In this behind the sceen video, re reinstate that it has 14 stops of Dynamic range.
-
From his explanation it is 16.6 stops with the 3-4 stop getting increasingly noisy, but 14 stops is usable. So depending on someone noise tolerance, it could be between 12.6 to 14 stop. The whole blog workflow is very interesting and very deep technically, so looks to be very credible.

Brandon Li's, new preferred gimbal seems to be the moza air now.

The APSC 4k Nikon D850 seems the cleanest version with no visible reddish moirer etc. For me this level of peeping is just out of this world and the 4k from the full frame version is already very very good. Another reason I prefer this, is that 4k is already beyond what we can see in moving object at normal viewing distance and when it is too sharp the image becomes very digital and loose that organic look. https://***URL removed***/reviews/image-comparison/fullscreen?attr29_0=nikon_d850&attr29_1=sony_a9&attr72_0=4k-apsc&attr72_1=4k&normalization=full&widget=555&x=-0.4570796494630715&y=-0.020766435711161095

Sony sensor division is a seperate entity and nikon sells about 3 to 4 time more sensor than Sony camera. My guess is that Nikon is the biggest client to Sony sensor manufacturing which contrary to Sony Camera is very profitale and a leader in its domain.

When I watched at the video it made me think that the reason they chose the crop mode without down-scaling, which one step less in processing (heat) and less silicon active, again heat is because of to whom those camera and the D5 in particular is intended. The D5 and to a lesser extent the D500 are meant to be bullet proof still camera that will be used and abused in very hard and hostile environments, sport, nature, news and war zone. The D5 is the flagship nikon camera and it would be catastrophic for them to experience problems or even failures like the latest Sony's in the field.

I guess also my hope of 10 bit and peaking can be thrown in the bin.
-
I guess it is there Nikon designed sensors and will have to wait for the Sony based ones to get full frame 4k or full Dx. The D810/D750 sensor are alredy doing a lot of pixel binding from its 36/24 mp sensor to get clean no moire full frame coverage.
-
For now only 30 fps 4k, i am a little disappointed, hopefully DR and 10 bit. But will not hold my breath and no mention of peeking.
-
That is very good news for Nikon video as Nikon shooters will be able to get access to a 4k camera at much less than 5k. The question for me is 60 fps and more importantly for me is 10 bit and DR.

Nikon D5 with 4K video, announcement expected tonight
Danyyyel replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The socionext( fujitsu) processor that Nikon normally uses in its expeed processor is said to do 4k 60 fps, h.265 and even 10 bit. I hope they implement all of it. Nikon problem is that they don't cater for the geek who live and die by the spec sheet. For example why do they call low contrast mode Flat ???? call it log and everybody will boast about it. While Sony's LOG are barely usable if you don't have a phd, Nikon flat!!!! is at least 12 stop and some say 13 stops in the D750 and so easy to grade. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QnyKZSUcL8 -
lol , some where called crazy.

Yes 4k is so much overrated, in fact something between 2.5 to 3k would have been much better, all the advantage of being able to stabilize and re frame and good oversampling for very good 2k/1080p without the increase by 4X of data. You would also get better low light, more so for APSC sensor. As for the sensor, I think and hope it will be the new fairchild 4k sensor. BM already knows how to work with those sensors and they are much better than in the production camera mainly because of DR. The claim that it is 12 stop (only one stop lower than the BMC and pocket) is a bit of a stretch for anyone that have seen the footage, more so that the sensor is rated at 10 stop. Now the other question is if BM will put this sensor in another camera or only in the URSA.

Time code is a huge huge addition and I think a first in any Dslr and mirrorless camera. It is a very good sign for Nikon to showcase that they are commited to professional video in their DSLR line of cameras. Anyone who does multiple camera shoot for interviews and wedding for example will know how hard and annoying to sinc audio to multi camera shoot. It is a feature found only in professional cameras. The start stop with external recorder is also a very very nice feature, but what abiut peaking. I mean this would be the most important thing that is missing from a usability side of Nikon slr, more so when you are talking full frame camera. I hope that people at nab point it out to them.

Sales must have gone down as they were thinking about lowering price in January from per-orders. Perhaps the good reception in the video market has boosted sales until the much smaller video centric market dried up a bit and leaving them no choice than to decrease the price to try and maintain sales. http://www.slrlounge.com/samsung-nx1-pre-orders-disappoint-price-drop-coming-january-rumor/

Would be great to see some example. On thing that I have seen in terms of detail is that the 24 mbit is very good when you have some shallow Dof but tend to get a bit blurry when you have much more motion or detail in the shot. That is why I bought a Ninja so that the bit-rate is no more a bottleneck for the sensor resolution. From my experience you get a little better resolution with the uncompress output even against shallow Dof shot. It exactly as with the Hack Gh2, you get more apparent noise but more tighter more dense and solid imagery.
-
Yes that would be great to have some raw footage of the D750 to evaluate and test. I have been asking myself a question for some time about the battery life. It is suppose to stay for more than an hour or even much more but on the D7100 it drains very rapidly. I am asking myself it is not the on lens VR which is pumping a lot of the juice when continually on for video.

People here should see this camera for what it is, a $ 500 interchangeable camera with a Kit lens that will cost $ 400 in 6 month, which is not meant for enthusiast and pro filmakers. Yeah the marketing sucks like all those 4k cellphone that barely reach this level of resolution because of their sensor and lens. If you follow Nikon product cycle you will know that the main advancement come in two ways. Once every four years with the releases of its flagship D3/D4 and D800 type camera, which themselves get a mid term update evolution in between and some test bed tech that they implement in entry level camera like the moire/alias free, very good lowlight D5200 camera that first used pixel binning. This camera has it purpose, can you imagine that it has a better processor than the top of the line D4s and D810 camera!!!! The latest D810 and D750 already have some of the best 1080p out of any dslr. This indicates that you will have at least 4k in the next update of the D4/d800 and all future Nikon bodies in the next two years. Their update might be incremental but they are getting their, contrary to the A7s and Nx1 their camera don't have big flaws like rolling shutter, or lack of DR and low light in the NX1 or crappy colour science that needs an expert colourist with the Sony cameras. I see the same analogy made about Canon on internet board where the geeks can only comprehend resolution. But yet when you see pro usage or more artistic usage like film festival, the Canon is everywhere because the C100/C300 line are balanced cameras with no big flaws like appalling rolling shutter or colour science.
-
For that low, camera like the Nikon D5300 would be very good compared to the Canon 5d2 because of no moire aliasing and better resolution. It will have a big advantages compared to gh3 (and most low cost m43 and Sony cameras) in low light. You will be getting 5d mark 3 low light quality out of it and that is very very important for Doc work. Super DR and colour is also two other advantages. It does have two drawback like absence of peaking and you will have exit video to change aperture. Those can be mitigated with a good viewfinder loupe for about $ 60 and buying older Nikon lens with aperture ring. You have 50 years of lens to chose from and it will be a lasting investment because they will mount on about every camera brand. One thing not to forget about when doing doc is investing in at least some good microphone and recorder.

I forgot also to add the complete eco system with for example the best flash system.
