in those evenly dimly lit restaurants/bars, if i dont have, atleast, an f1.4, i leave the camera in my bag and enjoy the company.

it is very rare that anyone will have a specific circumstance soooooooooooooooooo outside of what has already been covered that the answer isnt already in the forum.
 
i'm a cheap bastard, i didnt buy the quide, but i did spend weeks going through the forum and the answers were pretty much there,... and most of the anamorphics i have are rare and unknown. 
 
to your original question though,.. is it really worth buying one? rich said it all, and i think that if you have to ask then it probably isnt worth it to you right now. they might get more expensive later, or later there might be some super duper new technology that blows anamorphics away, who knows. 
 
some prices are silly,.. if i didnt get mine dirt cheap i honestly might not bother, but then i wouldnt know what i was missing :)

wouldnt stretching it possibly make it softer vs squeezing or is it the same thing at the end of the day?

agreed,... starting at 99p sounds like a risk but a study done by someone at some school of economics found that 99p starts ended in higher prices than higher starts.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, this being a filmmaking forum and not strictly a photography forum, but i thought that some of you might be interested.

99% spherical shooters so far,... they tweak their work in post to look cinematic.
 
some brilliant work, but us anamorphs are horribly under represented,...  :(

these would of come from the 8z optic batch elmo would of tested and rejected some.
from a factory situation emoscope like this should be mighty fine.
 
the clamp needed is out of stock i did one which had 62mm thread with a retention ring gonna be a few weeks before i get around to doing more.
 
i have a new design one now but it is 52mm so a little more distance but still ok.

this is a superb optic...
in the owners video he is wearing a gas mask do not be scared the owner is not a pervert just an anamorphic lover.
maybe lover is the wrong word in this context any way the lens  is small compact and great quality.

this is sweet tiny easy peezy anamorphic.
1962-64 vintage simple design less smearing than iscormorphot potential to be much sharper.
like the baby hypergonar using it with a low power achromatic diopter will take this to another level.

this is my entry for a competition at a local tv channel. the shigascope with a takumar taking lens on a Nikon V1. 
 
my first complete bit of video since i started playing with video in september.
 
and i came in second  :D ! so it's now being aired once a week for the next year. ( i would have rathered the cash value as a prize but oh well)
 
a friend told me about the competition 2 weeks before the deadline, a bunch of us got together and shot it in an afternoon,... cut together without knowing what i was doing,.. still dont really know  :P
 
for those that dont speak japanese,... the competition is called Furusato which roughly translates to hometown and is intended for locals to promote their hometown. 
 
since i'm not originally from here i decided to make it about the foreigners/non-locals who have chosen to make this city their home.
 
it got projected in a movie theatre for the awards ceremony,...
 
the brilliant thing is that everyone else shot regular aspect ratio stuff,... so their videos occupied the middle area of the screen,... 
 
when mine came on,... it was like 'boom!' filing the screen, lighting up the room,.. was so cool. 
 
actually no thats not the brilliant thing,.. the brilliant thing is that people thought i shot this on a massive camera. i bet they think i was being a dick and lieing to them when i said it was a nikon v1 :P

that is a great little lens..
unless it failed before that fungus should come off. many years ago i used diluted hydrogen peroxide with a cotton bud..then wiped then a little lighter fluid then cleaned up with the excellent calotherm and caloclear lens cleaner. only on glass mind. did someone attempt to clean it? on your ebay listing you should state that it should clean up nicely with a service. i really think that can be cleaned up better once serviced by someone good that thing will be great for the black magic pocket cam.

yes, thanks to this site 8 months ago i learned about anamorphic lenses and managed to get amazing looking stuff on a dinky lil nikon v1 camera with zero previous video experience.
 
i actually entered a local competition with said dinky camera + anamorphic for a laugh and came in second place, much to my suprise... my 30 second bit is now being aired once a week for a year on local tv.
 
i've now upgraded to a gh2 as i've actually been getting paying work, all due to the amazing people that contribute and who drop a crazy amount of knowledge on these forums, so yes, thank you guys very very much!
