OzNimbus yes there are always "ifs" but do you really want to wait until the camera has hit shelves and all pre-orders filled before I report an update? The supply of dirty glass was the issue and that has been resolved.
Please report away, I certainly have no issue with that! I read the same report you did & drew a very different conclusion..... that the issues still haven't been fully resolved & next week will be a litmus test to see if the glass is truly up to spec or not. I have 19 years experience in manufacturing to draw on, and until a finished product is actually rolling off the end of the line in quantity, and passes QC, it ain't fixed. There are many things that have to go right for the issue to truly be "resolved."
That being said, I really hope that it passes next week & they start pumping these out. I'd love to buy one.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

In order of importance what do you think is most critical to you?

Single focus barrel (not dual focus like Kowa) OR adaptable to different primes?

If the adapter cost for example around $1000 (I just made this up, nothing to do with actual pricing as this is not decided on yet) and was dual-focus would you buy it? With dual focus you cannot rack focus during a shot and it takes longer to confirm focus, is trickier too.

How much would you be prepared to spend on a high quality single focus anamorphic (like the Iscorama)?
Difficult one there Andrew.
People would be more willing to spend money on a Single Focus system, but not at the Iscorama price range (I don't think they'll ever hit the quality of an Iscorama, so why price it as such).
The idea of it being a closed system would appeal - lens & anamorphic combined.

No one would pay $1000 on a dual focus system, as there are too many good cheap ones out there already.

the apefoscoperama is already looking pretty good
some of these shots are really great this is what patience and energy and drive can do for a prototype super quick as well.
this to me already seems superior to optex and century 2 companies that had over 30 years optics experience with a design worked out on a 1990s super computer.
flare issues on the apefos optic can be sorted with experiments in coating and finding and matching taking lens.

and its dirt cheap as well, you could probably find one for less than US$50 cos its so slow.

At Photokina Canon had their latest build of the EOS 1D C on display, a $15,000 DSLR which is heavily based on the $6000 1D X but has extra recording modes for 4K/24p and 1080/50/60p. At the time, Canon's product manager at Photokina (not a hired hand or a sales rep) to my surprise told me the main difference to the 1D X was just firmware and that the hardware was identical other than a slightly different selection of connectivity ports.

Canon contacted me a couple of weeks ago to expand on and correct this from their side - there are other subtle hardware changes to enable 4K video, other than just firmware.

Many tutorials online cover the basics on how to color grade one clip at a time but this workflow will make it easier for you to do a grade on a complete edit.

Hey all,

I've been messing around with the demo for this program, and I must say, it's pretty impressive....As an absolute novice at grading, it can certainly get me the look I'm after without much fuss. Too bad they only have a plugin version for the PC.

http://www.filmconvert.com/

The company said they've got hold of a GH2 and will be looking at doing a LUT for it... (can't recall where I read it)

I'd love to see Andrew do a full-fledged review and put it though it's paces....

I respectfully call "BULLSHIT!" sir. BMC footage has been the easiest thing I've ever graded. Including DSLR stuff. It's riduculously simple to work with in Adobe Camera Raw.

If that scares you, use ProRes.... it's still better than 8 bit video.

Hey all,

Here's my first music video shot with the Panasonic GH2. I've done several with the 60d, and working with the GH2 was a serious step up. Such crisp images! :)

Numerous vintage primes were used for various scenes, as well as a Glidecam HD1000, and even my Kowa Anamorphic for a few of the "sun shots" although I kept the image squeezed.

This one was pretty tough to edit, I could only go four about 4 hours at a time before becoming too queasy. Still though, I think it turned out pretty good.

FWIW, the audio mix was by Fredrik Nordstrom & Henrik Udd. If you're into metal that might mean something :)

Yeah.. That was probably a dumb question for a camera most people will buy to make movies with, lol. That would be like, $7000 for a video camera that shoots 8bit, 4:2:0 in Avchd, hahahaa!

Sooooo...

Anybody watch the VMA's last night?
...next question.. Does anybody find it "unfair" that somebody like "2 Chainz" can get on a microphone, say things like "she got a big booty, so i call her big booty." - and you have to work in a factory, warehouse, cubicle, etc... Just to make in a year what he probably made in 2 hours last night?... I think they took the "Talent is not enough" approach a little too far. Because apparently, it isn't "shhhhhhit!!!" and should be changed to... "f--k talent." lol.

Well thankfully, not everything sucks:

Per Blackmagic:

"We have also been working on a Passive Micro Four Thirds model of the camera. People have been asking for this as there are a lot of nice high end manually operated MFT lenses on the market, and the MFT mount can also be easily adapted to PL and other lens mounts using third party adapters.

The new Blackmagic Cinema Camera MFT is expected to ship in December, and will be the same price as the original model. It’s identical in features as they are both the same camera, just with different lens mounts. The price will also be the same at $2,995. We will be working with our dealers to help people change their orders if they want."

This changes things for me:)
