For sure. The “18 stops” claim comes from the manufacturer (sensor-level, special HDR mode). It’s plausible as a sensor specification under controlled conditions/multi-exposure HDR — but practical DR measured in real cameras has been substantially lower due to optical and pipeline factors. Although the sensor itself has a “theoretical” 18 stops, many other factors (noise, analog-to-digital conversion, image pipeline, compression, amplifier architecture, pixel readout, linearity, saturation capability) limit the actual practical performance. Manufacturer's claim = sensor under optimized conditions (two/more readings, dual-gain, on-sensor HDR, internal measurements). This isn't necessarily the DR you'll get in a final phone/camera. Actual limits: optics (flare/veiling glare), amplifiers, pipeline noise, compression, RAW/JPEG processing — all of which reduce useful DR. https://www.imatest.com/docs/full.html Imatest/DxOMark measure the system, not just the sensor die (photodiodes (light-capturing pixels), transistors, amplifiers, readout lines, A/D converters, etc.). Lab values applied to cameras tend to show much lower useful DR on sensors of this size — hence the large difference between manufacturer claims and practical DR. However, if this OmniVision sensor actually comes to fruition with 18 practical stops, that will be revolutionary for such small sensors — it would be worth watching for announcements and technical tests.

https://ymcinema.com/2025/04/15/omnivision-unleashes-a-game-changing-1‑inch-8k-18-stops-of-dr-sensor-for-smartphones/ https://ymcinema.com/2025/09/30/omnivision-ov50r-8k-sensor-action-cameras/ https://www.ovt.com/press-releases/omnivision-launches-ultra-high-dynamic-range-1-inch-image-sensor-for-movie-grade-video-capture-in-flagship-smartphones/ Breaking news: currently in mass production... Imagine that reaching the mirroless/compact cameras segment, no less... Why not? ; ) In a single line: economies of scale. The funny part of the equation is the smartphones market pushing the boundaries of this industry in every front, from iPhone sales to Android. ;- )

Not in video though: 13mm, 24mm, 48mm, 100mm, 200mm and I suppose macro too? As far as reported here, it seems the Detail app can record multicam, but... ...from any of those different cameras, i.e., distinct focal lengths, we wish??! How many can it record simultaneously? Only two of them, just the front and rear, I guess? Here's an informative overview: The other point is: Is the external SSD usable for direct recording, or just for backup with Detail app? And what about editing also allowed by this app?

Nothing against the man (never had, and my previous posts speak for themselves, so I cannot be under any suspicion — quite the contrary : P). But Stephen, for someone who claims to be just a simple tech reviewer making a living out of it, while simultaneously having nothing to do with filmmaking, and then someone else sees Philip Bloom promoting GU LUTs (!) — as with the most recent DJI bird (Mini 5 Pro)... well, that really makes me laugh! : ) And yet, to still be frank, never has a PB video looked so bad :- )

When we have portable devices like this (it’s 2025 — only portable 1080p projectors hit my home white walls!), with OCuLink support, just a click away like today — more real than ever before: https://onexplayerstore.com/products/onexplayer-x1-pro-amd-ryzen™-ai-9-hx-370-10-95-3-in-1-redefining-handheld-gaming-device

As FX30 user in a daily basis, I must add there's something wrong with this release, no doubts on this one! : X -

People are rushing to gas stations because of the price hike—up to about 5% just from this Monday on... Diesel was already sold out at the first station I went to... How is it over there in your area?

GX80/85 here too (they are the same camera, varies the geographic version, EU or US). Just arrived from street back to my Lisbon base, 5 minutes ago, with one in hands... as casual shooter for covering this: https://www.portugal.com/activities-experiences/the-ultimate-guide-to-the-biggest-party-in-lisbon-santos-populares-and-santo-antonio-2024-edition/ + FX30 with my new Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 attached to 1.5x Clear Image Zoom and no complaints on ISO as far as low light concerns under street bulbs by night, go figure for 4K 25p always under ISO 1000; + Osmo Pocket 3 which didn't leave the case this time and it's one of my favs; + Insta360 One X2 in my shirt pocket, despite its terrible low light/night shooting performance other than my beloved Osmo, the same, never came out... Its small form factor with the cheap kit 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 lens makes it unique. Didn't even feel the need to use my Osmo, can you imagine? And Panasonic batteries last and last... A single battery for all night long, two batteries for Sony. Follow @kye's entry for everything else, it's for free and you have there more with him than whoever else here or anywhere out there ;- )

I am tempted to pull the trigger... Thank you guys! :- )

The one we know is the other one, but OK thanks for your heads-up! : ) We have another case very likely then... This is a plague. I have nothing against technology but those people who tend to take advantage from illegitimate access? We're obviously talking about something else in fact... On that case, we're studying right now a legal action based on copyright claim. Now you've brought another case. I've just notified the author on your finding.

Got it! : ) No, not this one... Title means nothing ; ) It is much beyond a single title but not about this one in particular. Take a look again on the plot... And information disclosed. Yes, there are countless ways to take something from someone, tweak it just enough (disgusting attitude to take advantage without giving proper credit, especially when it’s so obvious where it came from), and voilà, pass it off as new. Revolting to say the least... To people handling this in a daily life, AI looks like a children's play. I know it's not. But there are many more evil ar$eholes other than a damned LLM... : P A different title and outfit won’t cover up what it really is. But not the case you've pointed out. It wouldn't be wise to elaborate further, here and now. The original author knows my legal advice for the subject matter. I believe that speaks volumes, considering what's already out there ;- )
