1. Julian, the blacks were looking much darker, in the earlier video, and the colors were a lot stronger. Its looking more natural now. It also, suddenly feels, from this corrected video, as thought the dynamic range has gone up What do you think? Did u like the color profiles, after they were dialed down to -5?
  2. The video is softer, but, dialing down everything to -5, has made the color profile Much flatter. In the GH2, it was almost unnoticeable. On the GH3, the color profile at -5, seems midway between B&W and Color
  3. Andrew, I am guessing, that, there appear to be High Key, Retro, etc, in the picture, as well as, the video profiles. (they come within CREATIVE CONTROL heading) This is the url Charlie pasted, above. http://panasonic.net...5100/index.html
  4.
I have a Nexus 7 and hunted all over the web to see if there was a way to use it as an external moniter for the GH2 but there doesn't presently seem anyway to do it.
I wrote in, to them, requesting them to make an app, for the Panasonic GH2. I guess, if more people write in, they may be tempted, to make it compatible, with the GH2 (and later, perhaps, the GH3), as well. this is the url, to write in, to them: http://dslrcontroller.com/contact.php

Check this thread out. Its f%$king crazy: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3294441 Lets do the Mimicry/ Impersonation thing. Every1 can chose 1 favourite character, from some forum, and make a short 10-15 second video, and send it across (post it in good quality sound and Full HD). I will be the "Russian Freak (pronounced "Rhoosseean Reeekh"). And, the Topic for the short could be: "What the F#@c were Panasonic thinking. Why did they Not consult us???" ... :D
Now that's a short video skit just begging to be made.
Maybe everyone on EOSHD, can send a video of their's, pretending to be (or impersonating) one of the freaks from one of these discussion groups, and then, we could color correct all the footage, and make it into a short. We could chose screen names, similar to some characters, in one of these forums. :D that would be Hilarious ...
They just don't know. It would be daft of Grant to come out and say the MFT version will ship at 7pm on 7th January 2013 when they're still working through the technicalities of a supplier issue. You are completely 100% right to be disappointed though. It is the name-calling that lets people down and it is really unfair on a company who is virtually ALONE on the market in trying to cater to us.
I agree with you. Anger is no reason to lose one's manners. Also, people should realise, that the BMCC offers a Lot More bang, for the buck. But, I guess, there are a lot of frustrated souls, on social networking sites, and discussion forums, and, if they wouldn't be targetting the BMCC, they would be targeting Steven Spielberg, or someone else. I am sure the BMCC just ignores them. :D

I am guessing , it stems from a lack of good manners, and also, from other, more peculiar things. Like: 1. A lot of these people have already committed to projects, to be shot on the BMCC. Which, quite frankly is not a very good move, because, I guess, a lot of people using it, will have to familiarize themselves with the entire Post Production bit, which they aren't still aware of. After all, there is a Huge difference between an 8 bit 4-2-0 and a 12 bit RAW. 2. A lot of people were picking up the BMCC, for bragging rights (like a certain gentleman here, who plans on using the BMCC to shoot the rats in his colony. Or were those his pet cats?) 3. If the BMCC was supposed to be delivered in June-July, and, its November, then, its very sad, that almost 6 months have passed, since its promised delivery date. If i was in line, I would put my money elsewhere. Though, they Have been improving things at BMCC, and you do get THE best package deal, with the BMCC, I guess, at the end of the day, its bad policy, to promise, and not be able to deliver, whatever the reason may be.
  11. Dude, I think, you didn't move the camera (GH3), to check for Moire. I saw, some appearing, but, before the camera could start developing moire (or atleast allow it to be noticed), you ended the video (and so, the test). Also, you have to open the lens more. Maybe at around f8 or more. cause, the depth of field, was quite shallow, at certain spots, to allow for testing moire.
  12. I know that one can use the Nexus 7, as an external monitor, for the Canon DSLRs (with the DSLR Controller App). I wonder, if there is a (similar) software, to use it with the GH2. It would be Amazing, and AMAZINGLY cheap.
  13. you'll have to remove the video (or the password), if you don't want it going public. EOSHD is far too famous, not to get noticed, in a Google search. Trust me
  14. If you are talking about those sleep line kindda pattern on the deer, then, I am guessing, that, those may be caused by its fur being rubbed against shrubs and bushes. I found the detail pretty good, and the attached mic's quality, was very good. About the shortfalls, on the GH3, I think, Panasonic should sit will developers, and let people buy em off them, through the Android App Store or Apple Stores.I think people wouldn't mind buying things like (software upgrades for): 1. Peaking. 2. 10 bit 4-2-2 Maybe even pick up grips, with XLR and GPRS. About the moire and aliasing, I guess, we'll be updated about them, as newer videos keep making the rounds. Also, maybe having Test Charts, with shootouts, between the GH2 and the GH3, would be a great idea. Btw, this guy mentioned something about the famous gamma shift, like on the GH2. I wonder why they didn't think of fixing it.
  15.
relevant: 12-35 2.8 on a gh2. it's on youtube so @0:50 just might be a compression thing, but take a loot. all the usual suspects are present in a godamn high degree.
Shit !!!I noticed the moire too. I am gussing, these tests were done, with the 'shoot without lenses', option OFF. That causes the Camera to do strange things, in an effort to correct chromatic aberration.
  16.
I just shoot videos of my cats running around the house so all I need is a BMCC. If I got a real gig then I may look into a GH3.
Roflm(f)ao ... Dude, you need an F55, or the EPIC. Or, better still, a multi-cam set-up, with, maybe 12 EPICs and 12 F55s. :D
  17. Excellent interview, Andrew. “The external HDMI feed is clean, uncompressed 4-2-2 8bit like the Nikon D800, but Panasonic have reserved 10bit for the updated AF100A and of course the GH3 does not have professional video or audio jacks such as XLR or HD-SDI. To be honest with an internal codec this good, I can’t see there being much advantage to external HDMI recording on the GH3. The headphone jack gets in the way of the articulated screen but this can be overcome by using a monitor or EVF and keeping the LCD flat against the back of the camera or closed to preserve the battery. The microphone jack is higher up and nicely out of the way.†I wish Panasonic would just get rid of the 8-bit, and get it to 10-bit. That would cure the terrible banding, which appears across the GH2 and GH3 (as well as every other DSLR on the market). That, and getting rid of the moiré and aliasing, and you could add another $100-200, and I am sure, a lot of people won’t be complaining (or shouldn’t … lol). AF100 has a LOT of features, which its competitors, in price don’t. Its just that the image coming out of the camera, is probably, just not as nice, as those coming off cameras around the same price (like the FS100). In many tests, the GH2 produced more detail (and slightly lesser moiré) than the AF100. The AF100 was not a very well selling camera, despite having lots of great features. Anyway, so trying to revive it with a few, minor upgrades, is, IMHO, not going to turn it into a best seller. They are just allocating (unnecessary) resources, and funds, in trying to flog a dead horse. Because Panasonic have thousand of AF100s laying around, which they want to get rid of, then, maybe, they should tweak it a little more, add a few free accessories, reduce it by $1000, and it might just work. The whole thing, with the BMCC coming out and RED slashing its prices, has put a lot of pressure on companies, to price their cameras even cheaper. It still has advantages like XLR sockets, built in ND filters, and other things, over the GH range. So, there isn’t really a conflict, on that front. Tweaking the GH3’s codec, only keeping the AF100A, in mind, may be a poor strategic move. Especially, if you consider, that, a great GH3 will outsell the AF100A, many, many times over. If not by margins, then, definitely by numbers, Panasonic will be making a killing.
  18.
The way I see it, if you really want to know what you think about the camera, you need to just buy it. If you like it, keep it, if you don't like it, then send it back. Where I live there is no camera store/rental, so if I really want to test a product, I have to order it and see for myself rather than make an assumption from a youtube video. But if moire & aliasing is the biggest complaint, Like Germ said, we need to know why some videos have it, and some don't.
I am sorry, but I find the argument ludicrous. One cannot go out and buy each and every camera, to test it. Whether you return it, later, or not, isn't even important. If that were the case, there would be no need for critics and discussions. Your argument has sent man, right back, to the stone age. Pushing your argument forward, there would be no need to exchange ideas, to exchange information, and maybe, even get a manual, for products. Also, maybe, it stems from your ignorance of buy and return policies. It isn't everywhere in the world, that one can buy a product and return it later, only because you found it unsatisfactory.
  19. galanb, I quite like Nolan's direction, but, I wish, he would some other people collaborate on his scripts (maybe other people, apart from the 3 credits mentioned, in the Batman Movies, on IMDB, apart from his brother and him). IMO, maybe, he needs to improve his writing skills. I Really like his direction, and Wally Pfister's cinematography. They make a phenomenal pair.
  20.
Funny, when I try to explain moiré to people that don't have much of an idea of what it is (and don't work in video) I try to bring that kind of "human eye moiré" into the table. I give the example of a man with a striped t-shirt behind some blinds. Kinda shitty, yeah. But most of us have seen it.
Maybe because I work in video (entertainment) too, I know what it is. Otherwise, maybe I would know what one means, but, may not know the exact word, for it. :-) Its also, very visible in those cheap office chairs, with black meshed nylon.
  21. I found Tim Burton's Batman movies to be very low on everything. Low on on dialogues (they were so cheesy), low on action (everything looked like it was rehearsed for a nursery skit), direction and story. It was, batman, at its possible worst. Nolan took Batman to a completely different league. The direction, camera work, dialogues (especially in the Dark Knight) ... everything, was incomparable. I am sure, I have not met anyone, who shares your views on Tim Burton, Christopher Nolan, and the Batman Franchise. P.S.: Btw, I found Joel Schumacher's version even worse.
  22.
Why because you love B action Batman Films or thinking that Inception's acting was better than Scorsese's "Shutter Island?" :P
Dude, everyone is entitled to an opinion. IMHO, Nolan is a better director than Scorsese. Though Nolan has directed only 11 films, and Scorsese has directed a LOT more (TV series documentaries and 3 shorts, against Nolan's 1). Also, I don't believe, Shutter Island is Scorsese's best film. I didn't quite like it. Nolan is 42 and Scorsese is 69. Nolan has still a long way to go, and still has a lotta cinema left in him (If Clint Eastwood is any indication, then, quite frankly, Scorsese has a lotta cinema left, in him, too). Also, the Star Wars series seems something similar to Nolan's genres (Batman and all the dark movie psychological thrillers he makes).
  23. I guess, I tried watching it on youtube (in the 'Original' resolution), itself, rather than downloading it. My bad.
  24. You know, Karim, I don't like Moire or Aliasing, either. But, I also noticed an interesting thing. The human eye, creates moire or aliasing, too. especially, more, up close, and for black and white, criss-crossing patterns. Incidentally, IMHO, the GH2 resolves moire and aliasing better than the human eye (or rather the human brain).
  25. Julian, did I notice you changing from 72Mbps to 50Mbps bit rate, for video, before using the ETC? Does the ETC work with the 72Mbps? I've added your points to the list. Key improvements on the GH3: 1. Weather Sealing. 2. 2.5mm to 3.5mm mic in. 3. Sound Monitoring (through headphone jack). 4. Colours are slightly more flat (though not flat enough). 5. Longer lasting battery, and grip option available. 6. Better LCD and EVF. Though, the screen, suddenly, look very blue. Even the grass and everything that is green, has a strange hue of blue. 7. Bluetooth and Wi-fi (one works, at a time, though, the GH3 has, apparently, both). 8. 1080p60 9. Substantially Improved photo quality (this has to be verified) 10. 72mbit mov 11. Time code display Where it doesn't seem to have improved, or not improved enough: 1. Video quality (still visible noise, under certain conditions, though slightly less). 2. Comparatively Low Dynamic. 3. Picture Quality is improved, marginally, though not really enough. Where it has deteriorated: 1. Sudden appearance of noticeable Moire and Aliasing. 2. Video doesn't seem as sharp (though, in some videos, people state, that, it appears to be, almost, equally sharp. I am not sure I agree with it being sharper, or even close to, as sharp as the GH2). 3. The sensor is not Multi-Aspect Ratio, anymore. 4. The ETC is not available for 72Mbps video. And ONLY for photos, of low to mid resolution. Also,it has been reduced from 2.6x to 2x. 5. It is suddenly bulkier, and a tad heavier (marginally). 6. Cost of the camera has gone up, substantially.
