  1. Wow. The camera work is actually extremely impressive. Far better than a lot of actions and sports photography done by some of the biggest names around.
  2. The main issues with the G7 include: 1. Bad bitrate at 1080p and slowmo. 2. No headheadphone monitoring. 3. HDMI seems very strange and kostly disabled because you can't watch it in camera with the HDMI out. 4. Won't get the promised GH4 log. Most likely only the GH4 will have log. It's positives: 1. Noticeably cheaper than the GH4. $1500 (without lens) vs $800 (with lens and maybe even mic). 2. If u're in the US, Adorama literally throws in a shotgun mic free with the camera and lens deal. I believe the whole thing costs under $800. Sell the free Audio Technica Mic and pick up a Audio Technica AT875R IF you plan on getting a separate recorder. Btw apart from the bad battery and lack of separate mic in the system, the Tascam DR 60D Mark ii is a better option than the Zoom in terms of spund quality especially for shotgun mics. It costs well under $200. 3. Slightly better low light than the GH4. 4. Good internal 4k at 100 Mbps. I haven't understood the need for the H5 or H6 unless it involves multiple shotguns or something else. You could get the Shure LensHopper VP 63F. It has dual sound, meaning it feeds sound into your dslr as well as records it on a micro SD card. That way you also have backup in case of sudden sound surges, by having a 10db or difference in volume between both sources. Also, you can record ADR on it, since it works without the DRLR as well. For interviews it's best to use lapel mics, apart from on a shotgun, since ADR isn't an option. Whatever you save, keep it for the stabilizer and lighting.
  3. I am sure you would also love some terrorists to blow up the world too. But we wish it never happens. Segways are already used in films or TV where you need smooth tracking movements without the headache of setting up of tracks. Also, unlike tracks, on open spaces segways can travel smoothly for several kilometres likein dessert sequences or on empty roads. The uses can be practically limitless. P.S.: Just for your evil satisfaction the former head of Segways died after he used it on top of a hill. RIP
  4. Congrats on the 5 years. You're doing a great job. The forumsbare mostly unbiased and very helpful. Also, no unnecessary ghetto like regulations. Plus these is continuous interaction between members.b Like I requested, could you also do one on the auto focus on the G7 for video, and a comparison of its low light with other cameras including the GH4? Thanks
  5. I believe someone on Provideocoalition pointed out the source of the input on the BMD video assist was wrong and that is why the quality of the video would not be as good as it should be. Maybe that pushed their dates further. They do have a slight problem with times schedules in general, though, I guess. So, it is safe to say that atleast 3 months is a given.
  6. I believe the focus locks (apart from all other settings) on the RX100 iv and RX10 ii on all fast speed modes for the two cameras. This may be a biy of an issue. Also, both the cameras are noisy anywhere about ISO 1000. I saw the pics on dpreview and a few other sites, and the video shot with SLog at ISO 1600 on the RX100 ii seemed to have noticeable noise.
  7. Superb idea. I saw this many weeks ago first on CheesyCam.com. It's like a super cheap segway. And except for the low ground clearence I cannot think of another flaw with this thing.
  8. Thanks for the reply Zak. I don't think I could have ever guessed it was shot on an AF100. About your other two films, I guess, you guys would be the first people to be Officially using the GH4 for a feature. That looks like a good story to add for publicity and advertising as well.
  9. Maybe you should consider the new Panasonic G7 too, since it delivers almost the same quality of video as the GH4 (except log, as and when it comes), has slightly better low light, and far less prominent fixed pattern noise. Also, it is priced for the camera body along with the lens (either of the 2 lenses). For the amount you save, you could add a cheap chinese metabones copy, on a not too expensive f2.8 zoom like the sigma Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 or the super fast sigma f1.8 18-35mm if zoom range isn't an issue for you.
  10. The film looks very promising. What camera(s) have you shot the film on?
  11. Wow, I couldn't have agreed more. I find people to collaborate with difficult to find too. Most people are just looking to find employment. I like complicated Thrillers, where there are different sub-plots and interesting back stories. Also, I feel the human mind is hardly explored enough in films or even documentaries. The kind of strange, curious or dark sides to humans could make some great films. I also love period dramas.
  12. The 5 min record limit applies to the Rx100 iv. The RX10 ii has a 29 min record time.
  13. I saw some sample pics from the RX10 ii (on http://***URL removed***/galleries/reviewsamples/albums/sony-rx10-ii-real-world-samples#page=1 ), and I noticed, that it doesn't seem to resolve a lot of detail for a 20MP camera. Also, the low light on it doesn't appear to be very good. I would say that ISO 1600 is probably the maximum that one should push it, and ISO 800 would actually be quite good. I also find that the lens, like that on the LX100, seems better at portraits that at wide shots. In portrait it seems ti resolve a lot more detail. I think camera manufacturers who are complacent about markets like India are actually ill-informed. I see a lot of Nikon and Canon DSLRs and their long zooms cost less in India than in a lot of other countries (including the US). I am sure Canon and Nikon are milking the market for millions of US$. It's actually Sony and Panasonic's loss, by bringing in older models, and having a poor after sales setup.
  14. I am also of the opinion that the LX10 is grossly underrated. Shot flat it does have some serious dynamic range and can be graded well if not done too aggressively.
  15. 20+ stops??? Wow. It has so much dynamic range, that characters start to appear from nowhere. With this camera, one doesn't need actors. Hahaha
  16. I don't know about anyone else, but for me the 5 Minute time limit per shot on the RX100 iv is a Huge Deal. It seems to cripple thing as a video camera almost completely. 5 minutes??? Forget interviews or Documentaries, 5 minutes is too short for almost anything IMHO.
  17. Not sure. Also due to the huge price difference? I actually like the form factor and the buttons and controls. I think Sony lost the plot with the QX range. BlackMagic and Arri seem to built camera systems around the size and they seem to have gotten it pretty right. And now Canon has a camera of a similar size to the Arri and the BlackMagic, and the form factor is interesting, even if the price is not (and the fact that it Does Not record anything internally).
  18. "As with the company's professional cinema cameras, Canon Log and Wide DR Mode are available for capturing a wide dynamic range." I am guessing that they have tweaked it a Lot, since they first introduced it. Also, codecs and sensor optimisation (including via incorporation of much more effective processors) are grossly underrated. I am guessing they have done a Lot since those noisy low light video of fireflies. http://***URL removed***/articles/5496399487/canon-multi-purpose-me20f-sh-camera-reaches-iso-4-million
  19. Extremely impressive. I remember this. But the sensor has very noticeable fixed pattern noise. Also, the video upload has been limited to 360p, at which resolution too, interestingly it has fixed pattern noise, like I mentioned.
  20. Incidentally Canon had posted a very low res video of this sensor way back when they gave out the press releases. It has 480p or so resolution (or was it 240p?). Incidentally even at that resolution it seemed disappointing. I am sure they have done a few tricks since then. Let's what how it performs.
  21. Actually it says that it Pushes ISO to 4 Million. Which is technically 10 yimws that of the A7S. How much of that is really usable is what will be the deciding factor. And what other tricks it can do Apart from the 4million ISO
  22. I am not sure what will wake Canon up from their slumber. Maybe firing their tech department?
  23. Ok, so Sony and Panasonic and doing a pretty stellar job of their Mirrorless Range, but, IMHO, these are some of the shortcomings with either system: Panasonic: 1. Most lenses are not 'wide enough'. I am sure people would want something as wide as that Nikon 6mm Fisheye with 220 Degree of view, which lets you literally look behind yourself. I guess more wide lenses should be employed. Also, if Panasonic, along with Sigma and Metabones call Officially Collaborate on making an integrated lens system, that does super fast primes, and super fast zooms, that should help solve some of the issues regarding wide lenses and low light. 2. Lovers of Full Frame will always be unhappy with the 'not enough shallow depth of field'. 3. The low light needs to be Atleast 6400 ISO, not the 1600 ISO that is the Maximum that Panasonic cameras can go till. 4. I wonder if Panasonic can do an XAVC version, for getting some superb flat profiles, with lots of detail, without pushing a 300Mbps bitrate like on the 1DC. 5. Higher MP count for cameras. A lot of people don't see 16MP as very ProSumer, especially if the professional work involves Indie Films. The GX8 seems to be heading in the right direction. 6. Panasonic need atleast 1 real log profile in the Top 3 models of their mirrorless prosumer range (GH Series, GX Series and G Series. Maybe even in the next version of the LX100). 7. Their Yagh units need to be redesigned to more on the lines of something made by Sony Sony: 1. Terrible Battery Life. They need Atleast to probably double that on their top end mirrorless range. 2. Over heating issues. 3. Price needs to be pushed south. Right now while the A5100, and A6100, seem to be good, they have their own shortcomings. Also, the price drops become very apparent on models which are as old as 1 year. Maybe Sony should start with more realistic prices, and expect large figures in numbers of cameras sold, instead of higher profile margins on each unit. 4. More lenses need to be introduced. They should also try and make cheaper lenses (which will be a task, considering their Zeiss collaboration). 5. I would have said that they should have internal 4k recording, but they seem to have done that, along with Log profile in the A7R ii. I am hoping they maintain this trend. Regardless of their ethics statements, a lot of Filmmakers get a lots of freebies from companies, whether they are camera makers, or sound companies, or accessory makers or whoever else. Panasonic and Sony need to hand out freebies, in terms of cameras ans equipment for most websites and blogs, that deal with filmmaking, especially the Indie Filmmaking and Gear sites. Also, Panasonic needs to provide equipment to atleast 10 Indies every year, even if it is only for the period of shooting. That way, they will have a presence in the Indie Film Industry, where their prosumer range is most likely to have a presence.
  24. The Zoom Recorders do have quite a bit of handling noise. I guess so do Tascam and other plastic bodies.
