  1. Jokes aside, great clip, love the cooke channel. lot of my heroes share their wisdom in their videos.

Yes, Optex s16 mod. I was lucky enough to get this D16 when they cleared out!

Two more with the Zeiss 12-120mm T2.4 on the Digital Bolex, this time indoors. The wide shot is with the Aspheron wide angle attachment (6,6mm!). ISO 400, T4, 172.8 degree shutter at 2k24p.

Some screen grabs of the Zeiss 12-120 T2.4 on the Digital Bolex. All at base ISO (200) and 180 degree shutter at 1080p25. No LUTs or filters, just a basic contrast curve and a two stop exposure push (and scope cropping on some, haha)
  5. I've used this with the 25GB discs for a good while and it's great. Still using a hard drive just to be sure since no one ones how long it will last, but I love it.
  6. I would really like to know what lenses people are using with the AF and which works the best Primes, zooms, Canon or third party... I got a lot of investing to do with lenses going to an FF DSLR.
  7. I got the Boya BY-WM6, I'm very happy with it! Only used it for presentation videos so far, nothing narrative. But it's really performing in build quality, battery time and the wireless quality! Even the included lav mic sound really good considering the price, but you can get another lav if you need a fuller sound. I'm getting another one for when I need it.
  8. Some really great stuff here Eric
  9. the video above is what sold me on low light and autofocus. now I'm just waiting for a rolling shutter test! I like handheld, but I guess going back to sticks and glidecam would be a nice way to get creative again, haha. The in-camera sharpness att zero isn't bothering me too much, but yeah. Eliminate it completely before releasing the camera, Canon, preferably trough c-log "Help me, Technicolor Cinestyle, you're our only hope!"
  10. Amen to that, Ebrahim! APS-H isn't bad, right between FF and s35, so I'm good. I just really dislike the typical 5D look where everyone shot wide open on fast telephoto lenses and barely got anything in focus. The footage from this camera is really clean (from what I've seen, even in low light), so stopping down a bit to get more of a s35 DOF is def possible, and we need lenses at their sharpest anyway now with 4K (just turn down the in-camera sharpening waaaaay down!) + give the focus puller a chance (sometimes that amazing autofocus isn't an option due to lens choices). Speaking of the autofocus: Is their a difference in USM and STM lenses for this? Only seen 70D videos and the STM seems quieter, but I guess either would be fine if recording audio externally?
  11. Of course, unless I need 120fps I'm sticking to the 4k mode! I was thinking that it would be easier to get a cleaner image in s35 rather than FF in HD mode like the a7rII. But then again, most FF cameras with s35 crop HD look a lot worse than FF mode (Nikon D750). Lack of C-log isn't a deal breaker for me, from the footage I've seen DR seems improved (and it looks like they were shot on standard profiles)! I just think it's weird since the camera have other cinema features like DCI 4k and true 24p (something 1DC doesn't have, only 23,976 if I remember correctly?). Loads of flat profiles, but they were all made with the 5D2, so who knows how well they'll work? Can they reach the full potential of the new sensor and give a nice curve? I will try them all and probably try to make my own as well. Cool to hear about a "fine detail" PS :D
  12. to me this is exactly what I wanted specs wise since I do equal amount of video and photography. The only downside is price, but it's alright. This will last for years! But that price, haha... The rest, like the weight is only things that annoy me a little. I would love this in 5D style body and 2/3 of the weight. This tank is really stretching it for street photography and guerilla style shooting. Annoying, yes. But not something that would stop me. I haven't used a Canon since the t2i and I just got angry for every new camera Canon came up with (along with many others). And after going trough the BMCC, Sony a7s and GH4 I want a well-built, reliable workhorse that is thought trough with a quality preserving codec and nice colors. I'm tired of overheating little bodies with bad battery life and weird menues. I'm sick of the 100mbit/s H264 and weird colors from small and noisy sensors. Hopefully the rolling shutter will be improved and they'll add C-log (cause, why not? 4K DCI at 60p but no cinema PP?) and an aps-c crop in HD mode. Perhaps that will sharpen it up a bit alá a7rII? Never really liked FF for video, but love it for photography!

    A7S Adaptors

I've ordered this one from RJ: http://www.rjcamera.com/ocart/index.php?route=product/product&path=20_63&product_id=81 Not here yet, but hope it will work alright with Canon 24-70 2,8. Regarding NDs: I love my Skier IRNDs and their polarizer. Absolute beautiful and great price!
  14. Just got my camera from Panamoz after some fiddling with bank transfer (paypal no go for non-british accounts) and a friend in England helping me out. Super happy with all the money I've saved that I can invest in other things like extra batteries. And thanks Terrence for describing how to change the menus into English!
  15. I don't want to know... I go crazy every time I see my parents' TV (all blue and motion plus +1000) or my own grading on someone else's laptop.
  16. Hi all, I'm moving from the BMCC MFT to the Sony A7s. The BMCC all rigged up is just too much for me as a one man band, too heavy and too many pieces to put together and keep track on. The pay off (the image) is worth it, but I feel it's limiting me creatively in a bad way. I also want to get back into still photography (Never had full frame before, this should be interesting). That's also why I'm getting rid of my Nikon AI(s) primes. I want zooms. Not because they're better, but more convenient, I got more of a "on the go in available light" kind of style. Nikon mount is great with adapters thanks to a click-less aperture control, but it would be nice to have autofocus as well (apparently that's a no go with Nikon according to my googling and forum reading skills), but everything Canon leaves a bad taste in my mouth (well.. not really, I'm just as skeptical as any other DSLR shooter who started out on Canon and saw them staying behind on purpose). I haven't found a good affordable alternative to Metabones yet. Likewise with native Sony FE mount. Full frame also use all of the glass, so I'm being more careful about the quality in the edges this time, nothing I had to worry about before, really. For 1080 video I guess it's alright, not really noticeable, but when taking stills and maybe later 4K video... What is acceptable? Not asking for perfection, I got more of a "on the go in available light" kind of style. I really like to film/photograph people in their surroundings. Sláinte!
  17. I am so pissed I don't live in the UK right now xP
  18. I def want this, but I'm wondering what differs it from their (older) 3-axis gimbal för a tenth of the price... If it's basically the same setup (since it can handla a stripped down Epic just a little bulkier but same weight), then why not just add handles? And making a smaller joystick can't really be that hard either to be able to use your thumbs and fingers on one hand and follow focus on the other?
  19. Not the camera for me and my production company, but I really dig the image. All the samples reminds me a lot of Kar Wai Wong's movies and the work of the amazing Christopher Doyle :)
  20. @galenb tell that to the fanboys over at REDuser ;) If I had the money I would buy this camera, but unfortunately I don't. And I can't make my boss buy it for work either, we don't have the money neither (newly founded film/television school). We need more Sony EX's for multi cam first, then lighting, and much more accesories. Then we can talk about buying a cinema styled camera! But that'll be a couple of more years, 4K will probably be standard then. And I don't want a RED!
