  1. Show me some technicolor that looks like that... I can't imagine it looks the same. The look sure shows the power of raw, but I really don't like the hdr/over saturated candy colored style. Doesn't have anything to do with a proper monitor or not.

Dunno, I just thought technicolor when I saw it.  Actually, looking at real technicolor I prefer that.  Like Marilyn Monroe here.

  2. I'ma be honest. That looks completely Crayola to me...just saccharine and pukey, especially at the beginning. There's a nice degree of variation in the colors, but they're not particularly pleasing or accurate. Nice compositions, though, and a fabulous location.

Looks a bit like technicolor, but not in a romantic retro Hepburn kind of way.   But it's definitely saturated.

  3. I bet you Canon and Nikon have wayyy more patents in both sensor and lens tech, whether they are the future of not is to be seen.

I doubt Panasonic has any serious sensor tech, we are still waiting for that organic sensor, and waiting, and waiting.....

The lens and sensor tech define the winner in this market, i have yet to see a 35mm sensor from panasonic, maybe they did one but i don't recall.

Nikon uses Sony sensors and Canon is in consideration to use Sony sensors in future cams as well.   The question I have is who makes the Panasonic Varicam S35 Sensor?

  4. It's not that simple Andrew, panasonic has no remarkable sensor tech, they buy it from Sony or whoever is willing to sell, also, they have no serious glass factory like Canon or Nikon, sure adapters work but look how far canon got with dual pixel autofocus.

Panasonic is the underdog for low budget productions, when you have the money you get the c300 mk2, the sony fs7 or higher.

For now, panasonic has my money, best bang for my buck, in the future i see eigher sony or canon.

Panasonic has great lens tech, and they're patented anti-onioning aspheric lens design is the future everyone will be emulating.  I believe their sensor tech is only slightly behind Sony's currently, and ahead of Canon's.

  5. Bring on the dodgy colours from people who can't grade LOG!

If it is slow to come out, maybe use the time to learn Resolve 12 :)

Dodgy Colors from people not knowing what they are doing is definitely an issue.  I'm old enough to remember secretaries all of a sudden being design experts because they got a new Macintosh on their desks.

Overall, it's a win win.  I'm willing to sift through the crap to find gold.  :)

  6. Well, it doesn't sound like something I would purchase, but I know for a fact there's a large market for this kind of camera in bread and butter television production if it uses an ENG style lens.   News and Run and Gun shooters need to work fast and this seems to be a way one can do that, and still get a more cinematic look to the footage.     A local TV station that uses this could potentially immediately up it's production value by a huge margin if they had a dozen of these to replace the small chip cams they are currently using.

  7. The way I see it, in today's world with so many other options, there's very little reason to have a video shooting camera without an EVF and titling screen.  The 5DMIV probably won't have either, and probably won't have 4k as well.

Canon needs a Super 35 sensor mirrorless camera with EVF and 4k.   This is the camera people need, and it won't step on their Full Frame DSLRs, but will kill them for 4k Video.

  8. 1. I want to see the new Panasonic AF100 successor, and have it share the same color profiles with the GH4 firmware update.

    2. Would like to see something new in small/lightweight travel tripods with a fluid head.

    3. some new handheld gimbals to replace a steadicam, useful for small DSLR's

  9. 2 FZ1000's and an LX100 will cover a lot more 4k holes and angles than this camera for less money and probably do a better job of it, especially in the LX100's case.    But hey, this is a canon and as far as many are concerned it's the only camera out there.   I'm just not seeing much of a point to this camera..   The C300 though, looks like a fantastic camera for it's intended market.    Isn't the C100 going for 2900 right now?   I'd jump on that before this, even without the 4k.

When I first saw it I was thinking it would run around 1k to $1300 max.

  10. I agree with Andrew that this should/could have been handled internally,  but in today's social media world, nothing stays internal.  Things go viral in an instant and cannot be controlled like in the past.  Everyone seems to want to be a star, and puke their lives out there through Facebook, twitter, whatever.      Clarkson's a jerk, at least on-air, everyone knows it,  we don't know how much of a fight this was so it's hard to say.  A punch could be anything from a small whack, to a huge knock-down brawl with guys rolling on the floor.  We don't know yet do we?

BBC was playing with fire for a long time with this guy.  in the end it's all about MONEY.    Personally,  I loved to hate Clarkson and would miss him if in fact he's really gone.   Somehow I doubt he will be.
