I know a photographer guy that has a Panasonic HC-W570K he passes around at Bar Mitzvahs to use when there's no money for video. It's a really nice little camera. I found it has very pleasing color and resolution.

could be time to retire my GH2 and add this to my collection.

The LX100 really shines in that test. Very impressive.

Anything that makes it easier for Old-Skool Canon users to give another system a try is alright by me, especially if they'd like to move up from a 5D to a GH4 for video.
-
The GH4 with original panasonic batteries lasts a LOOOOONG time, I also have wasabi power batteries and they do well too, but not as long as the Panasonic batteries.

so it kills the touch screen when you want to use the loupe. I find this very lame, but at least it's better than nothing.

There's no EVF on this thing?

how heavy is this camera? I've seen pictures of it in people's hands and it looks large.

agree with matthewcelia, get lenses. the image quality difference between the T3i and the 70D is pretty much nonexistent so the money would be far better spent on lenses.

The one thing the XC10 has got is record until the card is full.
Having said that Sony could easily take this cameras sales by taking the RX10 and:
1. Enable 4K recording, just like the AX100
2. Remove the clip length limit
3. Sony could even give the price and healthy bump from $999 and most would still be happy.
As it is, many will head to one of Panasonics u4/3rds offerings, methinks.
It records until the card is full? Is this the first Canon to do this? I believe everyone else figured this out a half dozen years ago.

buy a bunch of good lenses for what I already have.

Thanks Aaron for starting the thread. I'm in the exact same boat as you. The GH4 firmware update has me wanting to wade into the anamorphic pool as well.
-
...but then I don't buy cameras like the M3 or LX100 for cinema use, but I would definitely use it as a second camera. It would be great for that.

"With this update the Panasonic GH4 will have more vertical resolution than the Arri Alexa Studio for anamorphic."
But unlike the Alexa the GH4 has a rather limited DR and a video-like look, anamorphic or not...
In the proper hands telling the right story, either one could make a Billion Dollar Award Winning Film, or a Billion Dollar Loser. The rest is just specs and camera nerd talk.

if V-Log L is "crippled" and doesn't substantially increase dynamic range by two stops, then i don't think it's worth paying for the upgrade. hopefully this proves untrue.
I have a feeling that rumor will be proven untrue. It just doesn't make sense with so much competition out there in this segment.

3328x2496 sounds like plenty of resolution to me. I like that panasonic gave us more vertical resolution to work with.
-
I'm thinking it's finally time to get into anamorphic and join the party. The footage I've seen with v-log looks great as well. Any recommendations on which anamorphic lens would be a good start?

Matt Frazer at Panasonic was saying at NAB that it wouldn't have been possible without Panasonic's Professional Video Division (Varicam people I guess) help. It must be a bit trickier to create a log format that I would have thought.
If Panasonic could create the same log profile across it's major cameras, Varicam, DVX200, GH4 it would be a beautiful thing indeed. The footage above does look promising. I can't wait to try it out for myself.

This looks good, but I believe it could have been shot on pretty much anything by these guys and it would have looked good. They have talent you just can't find in a camera.
