1. Yes, try the EOSHD Unified hack or enter your own bitrate for 1080/30p in PTools
 2. Katon and Astro. Not taking sides but will say this: think of the value you can add to the forum, and what others would find interesting to read.
 3.
Since I already have 70-200mm f/2.8 and 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L series zooms from Canon, and especially since I spent a couple weeks using their 600mm F4 L series in December on both the GH2 and Canon crop bodies, it is hard for me to get excited about another 300mm telephoto, even if it is light. With a 600mm in EX mode on the GH2, the moon`s largest crater dominated the screen. As to Katon`s comment, I in know why mean to disrespect your experience or background when I say that there is no reason why more resolution has to look harsher. The biggest problems going from film to HD digital production was the high contrast and harshness and overly sharp look of things, not the (alleged) increase in resolution (which was really much more a situation specific question as some film prints were clearly superior to others and they wore over time).
Ah but I bet the 600mm F4L from Canon is not £350!  ;D You are right about HD digital production re: contrast and harshness. Harsh highlights, sudden roll off, crushed blacks, over sharpened footage, it all conspires for a less cinematic look. There's no single benefit to the 5D Mark III which solves all of this compared to the GH2. Neither are an Alexa. The trick is to expose well, choose the right image profile on location, avoid heavy grading and most importantly use a cinematic looking piece of glass. Using a good ND also helps, by keeping shutter speed optimal in bright light. I didn't use one with this test because it is purely a resolution test not a test of shutter speeds and 24p. Beyond that basic technique, the main difference between non-cinematic footage and cinematic footage is the way it has been shot by the idiot behind the camera!
 4.
Andrew, can you do a rundown of contax zeiss glass that is available for DSLR work? there isnt a detailed list to refer to and much of the information out there about converting these lenses are strewn about several different sites. Thanks
Dude! This is 1st result in Google. Great list, bit wordy but does the job http://photo.net/equipment/contax/shea-lenses

See how they compare in this test video. Later in the video there is also a test of the Contax Zeiss 300mm F4 in Ex-Tele crop mode (1:1 1080p from the centre of the sensor) on the GH2. In this mode you can see into people’s windows from 2 miles away sat on a hillside. It is insane!! The specs are as leaked but there are some significant extra details which make it even better, especially in terms of slow mo which is full 1080p all the way up to 240fps! 7. Go and see what Canon say about the design of the sensor and prove to me that it is BS. Because at the moment you are the one full of BS.
 8.
Above – genius, behind the Panasonic GH2. The leader of Panasonic’s digital imaging development team has admitted that resources have been diverted from global shutter development in order to satisfy market demand for 3D gimmickry. 9. In my opinion... A mixture of April Fools Day and Russian humour. ::)
 10. There's nothing similar what-so-ever between the 5D Mark III's sensor and C300. One is a 8MP sensor with custom bayer design for true 1080p and the other is a classic bayer 22MP for photography.
 11. What have you done to that frame grab to make it look so bad?  ??? There aren't any halos on the original footage so just curious to what you did to introduce them... What is the point? There's even one on the text I added, that wasn't there before (Photoshop). In my opinion the footage looks hands down better. Not sure if in-camera sharpening was on or off in this test, something to bear in mind too.
 12. James told me the top OLPF is easy-ish. But the 2nd is bundled in with the self-cleaning unit. My advice is wait for him to do a guide of some kind. Looks very promising.
 13.
http://www.vimeo.com/39594898 Update: James has had a full day’s shooting now with the modified 5D Mark III. Check out the footage above. Warning: please wait for this to all shake out. Don’t hastily modify your 5D Mark III without the necessary technical knowledge and research. Opening the camera voids the warranty and risks irreparable damage. James Miller has decided to open up his brand new Canon 5D Mark III, tear it down and remove the blurring anti-aliasing filter from in front of the sensor. It does seem like a particularly strong optical low pass filter on this camera, which produces very soft results in video mode. 14.
GH2 has great resolution  but resolves around 780 lines ... c300 goes beyond 1000 lines probably with little false details... there is something about f3 vs fs100 ... fs100 resolves around 700 but f3 goes almost 1000... same sensor but different olpf .. measurement take by slashcam.com ... i believe that guys doing best job... http://produktdbimages3.slashcam.de/camcorder-testergebnisse_testbilder_luminanz_aufloesung_211.jpg http://produktdbimages4.slashcam.de/camcorder-testergebnisse_testbilder_luminanz_aufloesung_204.jpg 1. f3 2.fs100
Please elaborate on those charts, I have no idea what they mean  ;D
 15. Even if it is not real 4K, it will still be a lot higher resolution than real 1080p. GH2 is not real 1080p either, but yet it is within 2-3% of the C300's resolving power! It is important not to overstate and overhype small things. Overhype the big things by all means!
 16. I'm not saying there is no need. I am saying it is vastly overrated like raw is as well. I don't colour grade my stuff, I prefer to get it right at the time of shooting.
 17.
If the FS700 records 4K but only at 8-bit, that would be really stupid.
I'm all for this opinion, but you must say why and not just say that it is stupid...
 18. It isn't really supposed to take the place of the F3. If it was, it would be called the F4 not the FS700. I am not sure where you got 10 stops of DR from. The FS100 had at least 11.5! 4:2:0? Again - not a very good guess. This will be 4:2:2 as the FS100 also does to an external box. 10bit is overhyped, I feel. So I have a challenge for you! Show me the difference between 8bit FS100 footage and 10bit F3 footage and exactly what 10bit (not 4:4:4 just the 10 bit colour) brings to a 4:2:2 image. In my opinion, 4K is a bigger deal than 10bit colour.
 19.
because is NEX its probaly 8 bit 444 HD-SDI ... and if records 4K internaly thats going to be 80-100 mbit 420 h264... gamma curves same as fs100 ... no slog .... that is enough to protect f3...
Gamma curves on the FS700 are as the F3.
 20.
But won't such a camera, for all intents and purposes, make the Sony F3 obsolete?
Apparently they have 2 other cams coming at NAB, one between the F3 and F35  :o
 21.
"the FS700 does 4K via 3G HD-SDI to an external recorder." My Red One does 4K and doesn't need an external recorder.
Does your RED one do clean low light and cost $8000?
 22.
News is spreading: This is another guys post about talking about the merits of 4K.  Sony will have a huge winner here. The point is 1080p and REAL 1080p FS100: http://produktdbimages3.slashcam.de/..._klein_204.jpg Canon C300: http://produktdbimages0.slashcam.de/..._klein_260.jpg Both 1080p, C300 with 4 K Sensor.See the difference ? ^^
Have my doubts about those chart shots, which I saw earlier. Those links seem broken can you repost? Who says the FS700 won't do 'real' 1080p as well? Is that chart really representative? Why is the white so much brighter in the C300 shot?
 23.
And we're going to have to wait till September for a response from Panasonic?  Anyone else nervous it's going to be too little too late?
GH3 in September probably, but that is not a response to an $8000 camera is it? Panasonic's response, if there is one, will also be at NAB. I'm expecting an update to the AF100 or a higher end version to compete with the C300 and FS700.
 24.
The resultant FS100 markdowns may make that camera worth considering for many. I still can't find a used one for that much less than a new one with rebate.
This is a big point... Not only does the FS700 spell trouble for Canon at the $16,000 mark, it will spell trouble at the $3500 mark as well. The 5D Mark III was not enough to compete with the FS100 at that level, and now the results are about to bite. My FS100 was $4200 on eBay. I can see it coming down to $3500 - not too much lower since it is still a fantastic camera and there isn't much else like it around at the moment. Who else thinks Canons seem be completely shackled by corporate immobility at the moment?? GET ON WITH IT
