Next example video is that... Coming soon!

That came out well. Every colour nailed perfectly!! Also, your 'German' christmas markets are much better than the real ones in Berlin
-
I'm not familiar with the Sony store apps. They all look a bit crap to be honest. Does "Live View Grading" even apply to video recordings or just stills?

OK I'll pass your note onto Sony's engineering team

1. With Pro Color you don't expose like S-LOG. Since the screen gives you a perfectly good impression of the final EOSHD Pro Colour image in terms of exposure, contrast and saturation you can use that as the guide. You can also under expose slightly to protect the highlights, but not too far! Go from the screen and your eye. 2. EOSHD Pro Color works great in 1080p. You can answer your own question on this one... Agreed 1080p is very nice on the RX100 IV / V so use it if you prefer. This was more a guideline than anything else, not a hard rule. I usually pick 4K for the ultimate image quality, but 1080p has it's advantages too. 3. Not sure I understand what you are asking there... Shutter speed is set as normal in M mode. Use 1/50 for the best motion cadence in 24p and 25p. Don't be afraid to use higher shutter speeds in bright light especially for locked down shots with little movement, or slowly moving people, as in this situation the difference in motion cadence is less noticeable... unless you're prepared to get out the NDs (sometimes a hassle), exposing on shutter speed is the next best option, certainly beats shooting at F16 - yuk.

UPDATE 3 is in the works Addresses the following - 1. Users of the old A7S (original model mark 1) may wish to try the v2.0 settings for the A6300/A6500 if they are getting a shift in the reds to purple and a shift in greens to blue. That is a bug with S-Gamut on that camera. The A7S II and newer cameras don't have the same problem with S-Gamut and S-Gamut 3.Cine. 2. Some shooters say they prefer the old A6300/6500 settings so I will offer both choices in the next update. 3. The tweaked S-LOG2 profile was left out of the v2.0 settings update guide because it didn't change.... but this led to some confusion so it will be back in the next update. Again no need to contact me directly for the update (unless you don't get the newsletter in a few days). You can also just dial the K manually depending on the shot. 2500-3200 if you want true white surfaces and cooler scenes under otherwise warm interior lights 3400-3600 if you want to keep the ambience of warm indoor lights 5600 in the sun 7000-8000 in the shade or at dusk / early evening Then back to 3200 or 3400 for most exterior night time shoots under artificial lights, street lights, etc. Alternatively, it takes a bit of effort but you can set the custom presets to 1. 2800 or 3400 (how warm do you want your ambience indoors?) 2. 5600 (regularly used outdoors in day light) 3. 7000 (regularly used outdoors when cloudy or in twilight conditions and shaded areas) Then tweak as desired in post... although with EOSHD Pro Color you certainly don't have to tweak anything in post.

This post should be a sticky. Pinned!

All cameras should have a seamless 60fps video link to phones on set. It's ridiculous how not smart they are in the year nearly-2017.

OK if you're doing the sweeping 360 degree rotations and complex shots then I can see why you need the AF to lock on reliably from a gimbal rather than try the E-M1 II. It's good but it has limits. Also if you lack a stills camera the 1D X Mark II is a no brainer then, and the double expense it costs compared to, say, a 5D Mark III, is worth it for the AF. The AF in video mode is the most bullet proof reliable there is. The Sony system can hold a face for a few seconds then dart off to the background for absolutely no reason. Canon's Dual Pixel AF doesn't do that so the investment is worth it if the shoot pays for the extra reliability and production quality. It is a long term investment and won't be obsolete in 1-2 years. Maybe 5-6 and by then it will have paid for itself many times over. Sod the car and invest in the source of the original profit! Much as I love the stabilisation, E-M1 II is a tricky investment at close to £2000 with the GH5 just around the corner and I have decided not to bother, in part because ISO 3200/6400 isn't much improved... still quite a noisy camera compared to the 1D C and 1D X Mark II.
-
The 1D X Mark II on a proper gimbal sounds like overkill when you can get an E-M1 II or wait for the GH5 and have 5 axis IBIS.
-
That really was the trigger to sort it out. I was about to put my A7S II on eBay. 1D X Mark II is very good but the file sizes and price are a downer.

They were all sent from the EOSHD server back-end, if you didn't get it, email me directly or check your spam folder

Proper RAW color workflow in Davinci Resolve???
Andrew Reid replied to olleolsson's topic in Cameras
Try colour space BMD Film then applying a LUT. You should definitely be seeing more DR. -
Nice colours but the brightness change I am not seeing with the updated settings on my A6500. If anything the new settings are a smidgeon darker. Original (A6500) - Updated (A6300) - You're in full manual mode right? Wanna try a few more tests and see what is happening? Cheers!
-
It works absolutely fine on the A7S. I have tested it. If you find the results too magenta just dial Colour Phase to your taste in the picture profile. They do not. The Colour Depth settings when adjusted don't change the image with S-Gamut selected on the A6300 / A6500. It doesn't matter though as the update fixes it and the new settings give the same image and performance as EOSHD Pro Color on the A7S II. My A6500 is running firmware v1.0 and my A6300 the same. Unless Sony have issued a firmware fix which changes the behaviour, you need to use the updated settings instead. I also tried the A99 II and same thing. Maybe Sony wanted to lock S-Gamut and not allow changes. Saturation does go up and down, just not the Colour Depth for each channel. Saturation on the FS5 however is locked, so again on that camera you need to use the updated settings.
-
The email with updated settings is on its way today. The update only applies to users of the A6300,A6500,A99 II and FS5. The update optimises saturation and colour depth on these cameras. As the update is only for the cameras listed above, A7S II shooters for example do not need to change any settings.

What camera do you want to see a review of next?

Or maybe they will pull out of the camera market like Samsung and we'll hail it as the pinnacle of Sony's achievements. -

Just bought a Sony A6500. I don't care about polls. -
For stills. But this is a video forum. The video AF is about as reliable as a Fiat Punto. And with EF lenses it doesn't work at all (only for stills). The insane buffer is nice.... for stills. As long as you don't mind it overheating 20 minutes into an important shoot (This actually happened to me) I am trying to find out if IBIS on the A6500 is significantly better than the A7S II, so far I feel it is a bit better but nothing dramatic.

@MC Wedding Films Which Sony camera?
-
That goes without saying for everything, always test new stuff before a shoot. There are some bugs in Sony's colour handling. The different behaviour of colour depth from A7S II to A6300 shouldn't be happening. I have made a second profile with a wider sweet spot, it delivers closer results across the different cameras, and you will all be getting it for free if you bought the original. I am also working on something else completely new and an A6500 review. I am now mega happy with Sony's colour after all this work. I might sell my 1D X Mark II.
-
I also notice that you can control the colour depth on the A7S II with S-Gamut selected, but on the A6300 you can't. I'll be doing an updated EOSHD Pro Color soon and a few other tweaks. No need to email me yourself - I'll be emailing all EOSHD Pro Color customers once it's ready. Ah yes but if you want to apply a LUT it's better not to shoot with a profile designed for baked in straight out of camera colour. SLOG2 is for LUTs.

It would actually be $1999 + $600 for Speed Booster EF and keep your Canon glass... not such a bad deal. And you're getting a MUCH better image and camera than the EOS M5 at $1000. Yes it is still more than twice as expensive but about 5x better. Alternatively the Panasonic G85 is priced similarly to the EOS M5 but is much better kitted out for video. It also has a fantastic image in 4K.

The Olympus might not be available before Christmas from what I am hearing. A6500 at least is out now. I have the G85. That review is coming soon! -
You can judge by samples on the web but it depends on how they're shot, the lenses used and the variety of subjects. Again the last video is almost all close-ups, with a shallow DOF and quite a long lens. The grade is ok, light and colours decent. EOS M5's video quality like 80D is a real mixture of times when it looks like acceptable 1080p and times then it just looks terrible and digital. Again... depends on the subject. A mirrorless enthusiast camera costing over $1000 in 2016 should not still have moire & aliased 1080p, with no 4K option.
