  1. To use a consumer sensor in a pro cam?
  2. If the Sony A6600 is a flagship camera, I'm a little pixie elf. It's a flag at half mast kind of camera, in mourning of a once innovative camera division. 2016's technology with a bigger battery. Interestingly a source who has been right many times before about Sony tells us that the Sony Professional Video division wanted to reserve the more capable IMX571 26 megapixel sensor for future professional camcorders. Meanwhile the same sensor is yours for just £750 in the Fuji X-T30, with minimal rolling shutter, 6K full pixel readout, no crop in 30p, double the bitrate in 24p (200Mbit) and Fuji's colour science along with F-LOG. Remind me again why I should buy the A6600? Read the full article
  3. The electronics manufacturers have always had a strange relationship with 24p. It's tempting to look at classic cinema as a quaint, anticipated thing of the past. It's an under-fire aesthetic like never before. YouTubers seem happy with 30p or 60p and TVs do their best to smooth over the cinema look by default. Well, not any more - according to the Hollywood Reporter, Filmmaker Mode is debuting on upcoming TVs by virtue of the UHD Alliance and some of cinema's best known directors. Read the full article
  4. One Sony division haggling with another, to make that division's products worse, while Fuji ships thousands of X-series cams with IMX571? Who shall Sony fire for this? I'm waiting.
  5. What was to stop Sony using their own Fuji X-T3 sensor in the A6600 and at least make it compete? Or was the sensor a Samsung part after all? Is Sony really telling APS-C users in 2019 that they don't quite have the technology to do 4K/60p or reduced rolling shutter on a crop sensor? No 10bit? Honestly buying a 2016 cam in 2019 just seems a bit of a waste of time.
  6. Well the EF 35mm F2.0 IS is the one I'm talking about. Maybe you thought I meant the old creaky EF 35mm F2 non-IS from the 80's? The EF 35mm F2.0 IS is one of my go-to Canon lenses no matter what camera. Adapts to so much. Fuji isn't in the full frame market, so would be hard to come up with something similar but their 23mm F2.0 WR is a lovely look, and the 23mm F1.4 has amazing performance, both of them attached to far more capable filmmaking cameras than what's offered by Canon. Sony have the very good 28mm F2.0 for cheap. Their Zeiss 35mm F1.4 is another story... not cheap, but damn it's got a 3D pop going on, and superb build.
  7. Well I was recording 6K RAW to one today on my Pocket 6K. UHS-II is pretty nippy. And with XQD / CFast it's pretty much a given... There is no need for an external brick, wobbly cable or 2.5" SSD in 2019. What the fuck they are doing bothering with sending RAW over HDMI when they have a high-speed USB C connector is beyond me.... Panasonic and Nikon seem to really want to sell a boat load of Atomos recorders for Jeromy! Good deal for him! But is it for us? Big bulky battery, expensive screen, dated media, dated connector and all this trouble for something which should already be internal. Anyway, what matters is if it's real RAW, how the image compares to 10bit 422 internal and whether the workflow holds up... Otherwise, may as well sell the Pocket 6K, get rid of the Z6, sell the Atomos Ninja V, and shoot with the S1H internal or an X-T30 if you are feeling more thrifty.
  8. Prove it then and have the sense not to buy it.
  9. Unless Panasonic's Headquarters is all of a sudden Studio 111 in Hamburg then you're wrong. And although both places begin with an H, Hamburg is not Hawaii. It's a 2 hour train ride from Berlin where I am visiting my girlfriend. The original plan was to go to L.A which would have pissed you off even more. But I chose to spend time with my girlfriend instead. For me this was like visiting a camera shop, and I don't do that unless the camera is worth a visit. If those specs are disappointing in your world you must be an insufferable fucking brat. Disappointing compared to what? Did a RED 8K handout land on your doorstep or something? Did your $4k go towards a stolen Alexa off the back of a van? Some people have been reading EOSHD for longer than 5 minutes and actually realise how far I've gone out of my way to keep the PR influence over this blog as low as possible, and I'll point you to all those adverts I don't have.... Anywhere. No sponsors, no paid ads, no content paid for and no shoots 'embellished' with Hawaiian scenery or Canon topless models. But yeah, I'll take your word for it... The image is spectacular but the specs disappointing. The 5m dot EVF and 5 axis IBIS are top notch but the specs still disappointing. The tilting screen is a great evolution but still your disappointment overwhelms you. Maybe you are better off using that "real cinema camera instead", you know, the one with the "proper ergonomics", that shoots 6K full frame for $4000, with a built in ND, a 5 million dot EVF and IBIS. ?
  10. Canon CEO probably has a Nokia in one pocket and Blackberry in the other.
  11. @Emanuel says it in the right way - editorial, not censorship! Got to keep the forum readable.
  12. With a predecessor as shit as the EOS M6 and M5 were, it's not hard! ?
  13. Add to the shortcomings: same sensor, same terrible rolling shutter, probably same poor pixel binned 120fps quality as well and Sony's lovely "colour" If A6600 is a flagship they should be embarrassed. 16-55 F2.8... Wow they finally got round to it. Shame it doesn't match the Samsung effort of 5 years ago though. That was F2.0-F2.8! Sony = new Canon.
  14. So 2x2 binning from that 32MP sensor. I guess Canon didn't quite catch up to Samsung's 2014 tech after all. I thought the samples looked a bit ropey. At least they have Dual Pixel AF in 4K this time (forced to compete with A6600). These APS-C cams are a bit of a waste of time when there is so much else around. You may as well think of the EOS RP as an APS-C 4K cam and buy that for a bit more money The only APS-C cams worth buying right now are from Fuji. This pricing is an effing joke. You can get an EOS RP for that.
  15. It's to stop people polluting the forum with clickbait, rubbish and zero rated rumours, with one-link posts that have no other purpose than to just draw my visitors out to some shitty rumours site. We are a better community than that.
  16. Yes, you can dial it down to 0 in V-LOG and it looks organic. Yes, it's there to lessen moire, rather than win the 48 megapixel chart test.
  17. Both Chinese Sony internet information war bots are reading from the same script today. Even the spelling is authentically human.
  18. Dual Gain output with twin analogue circuits on the sensor, bit like the GH5S. I think it is a different sensor to the S1.
  19. Maybe blog should go blank until Sony A7S III is out in 2022? No comparisons to actually existing cameras allowed! By the way ProRes RAW looks to be in development for the S1H although not got the official announcement text yet.
  20. 4000 very clean, barely any noise at all. 12,800 is fine. Better than the A7S II 25,600 is ok. If all camera reviews had to wait for the A7S III, you would not be getting any reviews at all.
  21. The S1H is the best featured mirrorless camera on the market for filmmakers - just to put it into perspective, let's start by summarising the entire competition as quickly as we can. Read the full article
  22. It's true, sadly https://www.eoshd.com/2019/08/nikon-z6-raw-video-update-is-now-a-paid-service-centre-update-still-no-release-date/
