  1. Yesterday
  2. I probably would But there is a valid reason, you don't want to know. Suffice to say I dont have time to work out a new workflow right now. I've got too many other things going on. RIght now I need a bodge that will see me through to a time where googling "how to do colour space transforms in premiere pro" doesn't induce a panic attack.
  3. The S1H is really special, I got a photog friend uses it mostly for photo and some videos, he also had dab with Sony for a while but back to Pana S1H for everything he do.
  4. So what this mean to the business? I think market in those entry level camera is definitely not as important as it use to be back then, people are willing to spend big money for their first proper camera.. I think that where the Sony is quite clever with it, and Canon is paying the price for thinking their decades of strategy can still work for this decade.. wrong!
  5. Seems promising but you have to take the sensor size into consideration. And it gets worse on telephoto lens.
  6. I think both count in this case, the Z8/Z9 is really good capable camera that makes R3 look dated lol 😆 There is a reason why Leica said selling their L Mount system camera is hard vs the Q, Leica Q is probably their most popular seller even though the price is not cheap, I think there are people really just want straight forward P&S camera than going through the hassle of interchangeable lens. I got a non photographic friend the other day wanting to buy that new Leica D-LUX 8, but after checking out the price I told him X100VI is much better for retaining value, so he ordered X100 instead lol 😆 The hype is real to non photographic friends aka the smartfone user.
  7. There are definitely lots of non photog buying X100 because of the hype. Like when I use my X100VI I do get response from normal people, unlike all the Sony/Canon/Pana I used before people just being indifferent.
  8. 4k50p is too much for pocket zoom camera as they will literally explode 😆
  9. https://www.wired.com/story/28-years-later-danny-boyles-new-zombie-flick-was-shot-on-an-iphone-15/ Unlike previous film shot on iPhone which was on limited budget, this one is proper budget and the whole setup for that iphone looks like 70k in total. But then 28 days later was shot on xl1, I guess they want to keep the consistency?
  10. I'll be picking mine up tomorrow. Maybe at some point, I'll plug in an external drive and see how long it can record without overheating. 🙂
  11. Wouldn't a colour space transform be the better approach? LUTs (unless really well made technical ones) tend to reduce dynamic range.
  12. why wouldn’t you want to work in the correct way?
  13. Manufacturers do their own market research which they don't typically publish at least not verbatim. I don't see anything too illogical or controversial about the claims made by Nikon in the interview. Nikon's market share has declined to about 1/3 of what it was at its peak 10+ years ago, and the overall camera market has declined to 1/20 of peak volumes. Nikon's improved high-end camera sales can be explained by two possibilities: one is that Nikon's high-end cameras have become relatively more competitive and thus sell better than expected from their overall market share, or that the increased total camera market (including smartphones) now produces more people who buy high-end cameras, including Nikon's. There are specific examples of the influence of social media on camera sales, including the X100V/VI. I am not sure if Nikon will make a high-end compact camera, they tried and got into trouble with some problems with the processor (reportedly) of the DL series in 2016 and cancelled the release of those cameras as a result. I think they may have been burned so badly that they are not eager to try again for some time. That was a bad year for Nikon in other ways as well, they released Snapbridge which was initially so problem-ridden that it really was amazing that they would launch in that state. A third mishap was the Keymission action camera series which also had problems in basic function. DL and Keymission were cancelled and Snapbridge today is not as bad as it was, but still isn't perfect, though some of the difficulty may come from smartphone manufacturers not willing to let Nikon implement its app in the most beneficial way (e.g. the iphone cuts off wifi from Snapbridge if switching to another app which is ridiculous throwing sticks between wheel pins). I am sure Nikon could make a high-end compact camera but then is there a need when there are cameras like the Z30 which are very small and can take a 26 mm pancake lens which is also very small? The Zf is also very thin and capable (especially good for smaller lenses from body shape point of view).
  14. If you can live without 4k 50p/60p, the fixed-lens Sony ZV-1 is tiny but only goes up to 4k 30p max and the battery life is terrible (I use one as my 'pocket' video & stills camera):
  15. I think the (APS-C) Fuji X-S20 is one of the smallest MILCs that can shoot 4k 50p/60p, but with a 1.18x crop (on the left, fitted with the small 15-45mm power-zoom kit lens, S5 on the right):
  16. More (3.7x-10x) here or there. Any takers already among us?
  17. I didn't try it with any of the footage in that video, but I have tried a trial version of Topaz in the past on other 'railway' SD DV footage. Basically I found it not much better than using FFMPEG upscaling and sharpening, so I've never convinced myself to buy it.
  18. This is another one we simply cannot ignore: Really? Because as the title of this thread hints ; ) the best cam is always the one we have with us : P
  19. LOL : ) Many more wondering about the same... source
  20. I am at the same side of you... Hence this route here ; ) direct link to YT
  21. I know this is a bit of a hack. I posted the question on reddit and only got one response telling me to transform both to rec-709 and start from there, but i dont want to 😄. I love my nikon workflow, it gloriously bodgy but works. So are there any luts for C-log 3 that will at least get me part of the way there? The canon ones I'm using currently are way off
  22. Irresistible... < 3 I think I will have to buy it one of these days (what about you @SRV1981? ; ) but still waiting for overheating reports... I am used to give it a try intensively and I've already lost many shots because of it!
  23. i dont know if this makes any sense but the z6 and z6ii have a nice fat image. I find the z8 thin. Maybe from my chemical photography days. You could punch through an overexposed fat neg, but had to work harder with a thin one. I often stumble on stuff I shot on the z6 and think "gee that's nice". With the z8 I can get a great image, but i've found I get the best results shooting non log flat mode with the dynamic range boost cranked at the lowest iso possible. And then I'll still often need to denoise a bit.
  24. Better codec implementation?
