The “new” Leica camera, internally at least, is their version of the Panasonic LX100ii. It is wearing a different jacket so is far more like a mini Q than an LX100ii and it has the very elegant Leica interface and the RAWs are DNG. Those differences make it a very nice little camera to be fair but the price…. Well, obviously.

  5. Just so you understand the l-rumors/m43rumors guy's shenanigans. He receives a proper photo and full specs of a camera, even getting a chance to play with it; so this what the next week's posts are: Day 1- "hey guys I've got word of new camera for l mount or M43". (speculation starts) Day 2- "It sounds like it might be a new l-mount camera, but I'll have confirmation tomorrow." (speculation continues) Day 3- "Here's a photo (it's blurry) of the new camera." (Of course, no one in the camera business knows how to make a proper photo, but "sells" the idea it was a paparazzi-style shot, fueling even more speculation) Day 4- "Here are some specs, but I don't have time to write everything after such a long day of "understanding" the specs. (notably leaving out important ones)" (more speculation on specs) Day 5- "Sorry, didn't have time to release more specs, but I had a chance to play with the camera". (more speculation on specs) Day 6- "I was able to get a few more photos" (more speculation on specs) Day 7- "Here are the specs. What do you guy think?" (specs are suitable or not) Of course, between each post, you've got several ads. I might even be forgetting a few days. I kid you not; this was the S9 launch. I'm not playing this stupid game anymore and I value my time more.
  6. Kinda tempted to get a Deity SMic3 myself (or a secondhand Deity SMic2), as I'd rather not put a pricey Sanken CS1e on a camera as a scratch mic when I'm on someone's shoots.
  7. 4K is 4x the size of 2K so it makes sense that 4K ProRes would be 3x (or more) the size of 2K ProRes. 🙂
  8. Nice! Even outside of boom use, I have an s-mic 2s that I use with my C70. Guess I know what I'll get to use with the k-x as soon as I get an xlr adapter for it!

<selfish mode on> Or get the F on with a proper camera such as an S2H and S2R. <selfish mode off>

True, it's bad enough for Panasonic being spread thinly supporting two mounts, but to release a similar camera for both mounts at (almost) the same time would be kinda bonkers insane. Makes more sense for "a GX9 mk2" to come out a year or more after the S9 Instead they should release the opposite of a S9! Such as a GH7????? Or a LX100 / LX15 update, which is also "the opposite" to the S9, but in the other direction.

  12. Yes you can. @eatstoomuchjam I have the Shogun Flame which would allow for 4k60 raw cinema dng or prores. 4k 120 on the FS700 would be bursts only but would not be possible with the Shogun. I have only used it once for prores 2k which had a good share of aliasing. Internal has less of that but nasty aliasing in the highlights. 4K prores is about 3 times more in size than HD irrc. Video assist does hd 8bit 422 only with the FS700 afaik. The setup with an external recorder is totally cumbersome for me to do cinema verité with it. Time to sell the Shogun... for peanuts now:(
  13. Who wouldn't want their boom to be even lighter? The new Deity S Mic3 and S Mic3S are out. All the goodness of the S Mic 2 but now even lighter. (by a lot! The S Mic3 is less than half the weight of a NTG3 or 416, the S Mic 3S is nearly half the weight of the S Mic3) I like also that you can buy the Deity Windshields separately as well (there are two versions: W01 & W02, shorter & longer). Should also be compatible with a lot of non-Deity mics as well. https://www.newsshooter.com/2024/05/31/deity-releases-the-new-updated-s-mic-3-and-s-mic-3s/
  14. Can't you do 4k raw from fs700 with Ninja and/or Video Assist? I thought it did 4k raw up to like 120p, though I don't remember if that was continuous or only for a few seconds.
  15. Insta drain, that's a good word!:) Thanks for the cool suggestions. @BTM_Pix The charging station looks really cool. NPF route looks spiffy and avoiding the insta drain is a great thing! Still got some NPF batteries laying around. FS700 is collecting dust. Hmm, maybe it is time for some 8bit 420 glory as well.:)

Yup, that's where I'd put my money. D-LUX 8 is it? The LUMIX version of that. Ie, exactly the same but half the price. Can't see updated S1 line coming now until at least the second half of the year. Apparently, according to certain sources, Leica has a time-limited option on releasing the SL3 X number of months prior to LUMIX and the basically identical, but half the price, S2R/S1Rii. We shall see...

To be fair, basically anything freaks out the MFT users at this point.
  18. C70 rolling shutter numbers from: https://www.optyczne.pl/48.4-Inne_testy-Canon_EOS_C70_-_test_kamery_Jakość_obrazu.html . 'Matrix' = Sensor (Google translation confusion...) There's also some DR tests towards the bottom of this page - https://www.optyczne.pl/48.3-Inne_testy-Canon_EOS_C70_-_test_kamery_Użytkowanie.html
  19. Probably the Panasonic version of the "new" Leica camera.

I'd put it 50/50 an updated LX100 (as the Leica equivalent has recently been announced) or a successor to the S1R (related to the recent 60MP/8k video capable Leica SL3). Unless of course Panasonic is intending to leave the upmarket-looking cameras to Leica as part of their collaboration agreements and concentrating the Panasonic brand on the 'value' and video-orientated end of the market? In which case maybe a GH7 or S2H? I think a GX9-size/type m43 camera is least likely - it would be very close both in target market and release date to the S9, so what would be the point?
  21. The C70 seems less sharp, for sure, beyond being 4k vs 6k. Colors are a little punchier straight out of camera. I don't have a Xyla 21 and haven't done anything scientific, but I think the C70 has a little more dynamic range (but the difference is less than I expected). Both sensors are a bit wider than a standard APS-C sensor (26.2mm for the C70 and 27.03mm for the K-X) so with a focal reducer, the field of view/dof of the lenses is a nearly perfect match for full frame. Also, C70 has rolling shutter, but I think it's around 16ms - so it looks mostly fine when shooting moving stuff/moving the camera around. It has the advantage when overcranking to 120fps that it doesn't need to crop in at all, but the disadvantage of turning off DGO and losing dynamic range (though then the RS is even less, like 8ms or something). This weekend, maybe tomorrow, I'll do my side-by-side test and would be glad to post a couple of frame grabs (before and after using the color chart tool in Resolve). Gotta' hand it to those folks - I've done some crazy stuff to get the shot, but I'm not sure I'd be up for standing in the middle of a bunch of fighting apes.
  22. I should add though that any likely Nikon Z6iii will almost certainly trump the XH2 for my needs on 2 levels. 1 is it will almost certainly be more sophisticated in every department and 2 I am already 50% in the Nikon body system, or should I say the adapted Tamron E Mount system and I do already own my own personal ‘holy trinity’ of zoom lenses, those being the f2.8: 20-40, 28-75 and 70-180 which are probably the ‘best’ set of zooms all factors considered, but mainly based on highest quality performance from the lightest and most compact size. Latest rumour, but strong one, is Z6iii announcement in around 2 weeks…
  23. I understand that they based the algorithm for the battery gauge on the Pocket based on this. Do you have one of ye olde worlde NPF adapters like this one ? It will power the camera all day obviously and with much the lower profile F550 batteries you'll still get plenty of run time without it being too unwieldy. There is actually an argument that adding the weight on to the camera using one of these is beneficial anyway when it comes to it not wafting about. However, the good thing about these plates and the way I use(d) mine when out and about was to have it in my coat/bag and attach it to the camera when moving place to place to top up the charge of the internal battery. Time has moved on though and if I was looking for something a bit more modern to deal with the problem then this small charging case looks pretty interesting. It is to be used with a USB power pack (of which there are a gazillion of various sizes and capacities obviously) and can be used in the jacket/bag in the same way as the battery plate except of course you are background charging batteries to be put in the camera rather than re-charging the one that is currently in it. I think its a decent price for what you get as it includes two batteries and it also doubles as a dual slot USB card reader. It won't stop the randomness of the insta-drain "feature" of the BMPCC so to be totally sure of avoiding that then you'll need the continuous power offered by the NPF adapter.
  24. Yes, I use lens support for the Sigma always; it's a long, heavy lens and the MFT mount on the Blackmagic cameras is weak. So I use a baseplate with rails, and a lens support on the rails for the lens. I have occasionally used that lens on the Pocket, supporting it with my hand, but when I'm handholding the Pocket I usually use lighter lenses (my favourite is the SLR Magic 10mm Hyperprime cine lens) and my Zacuto Marauder Mini. I do think just a pistol grip plus another point of stabilization would work; I also have the Zacuto viewfinder that clips onto the LCD and I use that as my second point of stabilization. The concert was an interesting challenge to film; the room was smaller than I expected and the music started before sunset; there was a bright shaft of sunlight coming in. I had my expensive Sekonic colour-temperature meter with me and took readings on the lead singer's face before the concert, but of course all that went out the window as the evening progressed and the sun went down; at that point they were lit by two colored stage lights on the floor beaming up toward them plus the two lamps that they placed to their right and left. I am glad I shot raw (3:1 CDNG) for the maximum flexibility in exposure and white balance, although I'm sure ProRes could have handled even the huge adjustments in white balance I had to make.
  25. Yeah you can get over an hour on the 5D3 with one battery.

“Daddy, please come back inside and play with us” ”Not now kids, the world MUST be told IMMEDIATELY about a rumour I’ve heard about a new camera”. From Mr. Undone to Mr. Unfun, it’s all a bit silly for grown adults this isn’t it?
