Perspective Aerials have released (in small quantities) a new $4500 rig which promises to replicate the performance of MoVI for much less than FreeFly System’s $15,000 asking price.
It’s been a busy weekend in the DSLR community, so here’s a round-up of a bunch of the more significant news. The Canon 70D is to be released in August and represents the first proper revamp of the Canon APS-C line since 2009’s Canon 7D. Canon make grand claims over the new video and live-view optimised AF system but is the new sensor able to deliver the goods when it comes to image quality?
If you’ve ever wanted to pull off just about any camera move with a tiny handheld rig, that just became reality. Potentially replacing the traditional steadicam at a stroke the tiny lightweight MōVI (easier to Google as “MoVI”) is a gyro stabilised platform with gimbal and hand grip. It appears to be so effective it allows you to execute a tracking shot without a track, a pan / tilt without a tripod and a dolly shot without a dolly!
