NX1 and improving it's lowlight capabilities

While it may be possible to implement tweaks to NR algorithms, etc. through firmware updates, ultimately the low light performance is tied to the sensor (and processor?). If the low light capabilities are hindering your work, you need to figure out a way to light your scenes (doesn't seem likely from what you've described), invest in noise reduction software such as Neat Video, buy faster lenses, and/or upgrade to a camera that has better low light performance, such as the A7s or C100.

Shot some run and gun stuff with available light. As mentioned, ISO 1600 is on the edge of pushing it's limit. Will the lowlight capabilities be able to improve through a firmware update or is this the limit on this sensor?

yes it is possible if the sensor was not fully optimized that it could be tweaked to gain performance. But that assumes there is room for further optimization.

thank you everyone for your comments.

this was my first time using the NX1 for a hired job and it did pretty well. using a canon lens and trusting the peaking for focus was a bit challenging. i think next time i will use the Samsung 16 to 50 S lens. the tracking focus on that thing is awesome. also, the IS.

initially i was using the C100 Mark ll and sparingly using the NX1 for the slow mo stuff. since i was a one man crew and shooting in a tight space, carrying two cameras around my neck was too much. so i decided to just shoot on the NX1 in UHD 24 and 120 slowmo. i'm pretty happy with how it came out, despite some banding in some of the footage. the footage of the show at the end is shot on the c100.

here is one of the three i did.
