Oh look, other sites are still shamelessly lifting content from this forum

Personally I don't care. But it is not OK toward EOSHD.com web site. When they post an article like this they should at least post also a link to the original publication. If they adhere to some professional standards or simple human courtesy. It is Andrew's time, effort and money that make this site and forum possible. So placing a link to original posting and forum would be the correct thing to do.

Not to mention that if some of cined readers buys the EVF, and finds out it doesn't work for his camera, they would conclude they were lied by cined. Without having the full discussion here their article may be simply useless.

Can you clarify this - so it works well on PAL inputs, but not NTSC?

Will double check and let you know

Curious to know how Canon users go, very interested in this. Have a C70 and R3. R3 does not need but C 70 would benefit greatly. I’ve never been game to put a Lupe on it because of how flimsy the screen is. I might brush up on the returns policy and procedure if it doesn’t work and maybe send the seller a message asking them first and then bite the bullet.

Did you gather more info regarding C70 compatibility?

Received the V780H EVF today to try with my Canon C70 (and Feelworld F5PROX monitor) but unfortunately I can't get it working properly with these devices. I've tried powerin the EVF via the included HDMI voltage injector (5V via USB, using several USB power supplies) but this didn't make a difference. Canon C70 HDMI out is set to 1080p and "Linked to HDMI Monitor" is set to "Off".

Canon C70 -> EVF = not working
Canon C70 -> HDMI voltage injector -> EVF = not working
Canon C70 -> FeelWorld -> EVF = working, but EVF image is strobing/flickering

The EVF itself does work when connected to my MacBook (but I wasn't able to make it work with the FeelWorld monitor in between.

MacBook HDMI -> EVF = working (1920x1080@60fps)
MacBook HDMI -> FeelWorld -> EVF = not working (resolution 960x540@60fps, 1920x1080@60fps, 1920x1080@60fps (low resolution))

After reading the posts in this thread again I realised I have the C70 "System Frequency" set to  50.00 Hz. This also sets the HDMI output to 50FPS. When choosing 59.94 Hz and "Frame Rate" to 59.94P the flickering on the EVF (when connected through the FeelWorld monitor) goes away.

Canon C70 -> FeelWorld -> EVF = working, no flickering only at 59.94P.

A bit limiting only being able to use this on a C70 for 59.94P... especially in a PAL region.

Canon C70 -> HDMI voltage injector -> EVF = working, but only in with "System Frequency" set to 59.94 Hz and "Frame Rate" to 59.94P. Any other FPS or frequency will cause a black screen.

I tried to be clever and set "Network" to "On" in the C70 settings (to enable power on the USB-C port) and power the HDMI voltage injector from there (using a USB-C to USB-A adapter) but this didn't cause the EVF to power on.

I've been using a "Portkenstein" - a mix of Portkeys LEYE II and Zacuto eyepiece - for some time. It's the best cheap solution but requires 3d printing the adapter and manually assembling the whole thing. Not a big deal, but requires some patience and some time. It's also a bit heavy once you add a Canon LP battery, not ideal for a lightweight rig on long days of solo filming - I make documentaries and tv reportages.

So I bought this new viewfinder (hdmi+ usb version) on Alixpress for 200€ after taxes and duties and it looks fairly good for now.

On my Lumix s5IIx (50hz)  the HDMI power is not enough so I put  a super lightweight, lipstick shaped power bank on my rig to give it usb power.

After some time I can unplug the USB cable and it still works, strange but true. If I turn the camera on and off again, I need to plug the Usb cable again. I think I will just keep it connected all the time. It's super small and light, the image is fair if you don't care about perfect color accuracy. The image is also a little too big so you have to slightly adjust the eye position to see it all. I will do some real world test this weeks but so far it looks like a decent compromise for lightweight work.

One good upgrade, as another forum member suggested, would be to replace the bulky HDMI cable with a female adapter glued to the viewfinder body.
