finding good service people is getting harder and harder i reckon, if all else fails maybe one of those lens rehousing services could help. If their pulling a lens apart and machining parts, cleaning and lubing a lens should be a piece of cake, but maybe not cheap... would depend on how you value the lens as to whether it is worthwhile or not. Btw i like what you doing with the black and white images care to share a little of your processing / workflow?
  2. I flattened a battery messing around with settings and trying different things... so in the end i did reformat the camera. funnily enough a gavin hoey video on dual card slots from 6 years ago popped up in my youtube feed in the first couple of listings that night. I didn't search for it on youtube but i did google dual card slots, i presume there's some "information sharing" going on in windows. Complicated doesn't begin to cover it lol. So far i have assigned the card slot, set up peaking and magnify for both photos and video. I initially set peaking up for video, switched to photos and wondered what happened to the peaking. I "wrongly" thought it would carry over. Seems like, olympus gives you lots of options. I'm going to experiment with it as it is now and move on from there.

pardon my ignorance, wouldn't the yellowing add some kick to a sunrise / sunset? I guess that would make it a bit of a one trick pony. I have been thinking on and off about acquiring a "yellow" lens just for that particular reason.
  4. I'm embarrassed to say, things didn't quite go to plan. I did read the manual, maybe not the whole manual.., I formatted the card easy enough. Then called it a night. Once i got to town i learnt i couldn't take a photo. Something about not assigning a card drive to taking photos. While the camera is smart enough to format a card in camera it wont take a photo and store with out explicitly being told too apparently. Never had that problem before but then i never had a camera that has two card slots either. Live and learn i guess. Not sure what i did to fix it or the how either but i can take photos now lol. New plan, do the same thing again (but take photos this time) tomorrow or more likely Saturday.
  5. thats the thing, isn't it ? how do we educate those poor lost souls ? I don't have tik tok, maybe there's some interesting tik tok stuff out there... but i kinda liken movies to bread. you got your ingredients, you mix ingredients thoroughly, let it rise for a time. then place it into an oven, hopefully you end up with something that can sustain you. Simple analogy i know. From what i perceive about tik tok its throw in some ingredients, agitate vigorously and serve, cooking is optional... is it bread ? i don't think so.
  6. I fear some sort of penance needs to be invoked !! like a 3 minute short, story and camera of your choice 😉 Must be hard work owning a cinema but the same could probably be said for any job these days. I hear you on the loud personal conversations and kids thing. Although kids are always going to be kids, still they could be taught some manners (wishful thinking). For me a phone ringing is a red flag nothing takes away from the moment like a phone ringing. Usually there's no one sitting in the first couple of rows, so i have taken to sitting in the front row. I kinda like it at the front, the screen appears bigger and since i don't have eyes in the back of my head its less distracting. That might be just how my brain works however. I watched the first episode. i did like the visuals / cinematography. However it took at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the episode to figure what was going on lol
  7. Yay its arrived.. Battery was as flat as a tack. Got it on charge now. Visually it perfect, there's not a mark on it. Got a somewhat free day tomorrow. i plan on taking photos of all the murals that have been painted on various walls in and around town. and some video as well probably.
  8. Good value if your travelling to aus with your tourist $$, bad value if your a local wanting to buy anything abroad and don't forget the gst. I fear it will only get worse with that idiot in the white house.
  9. 1) same here it seems... although i usually finish the popcorn about halfway through 🙄 i have seen tales of the loop advertised but never clicked on it. I'll have to give it a go. i really liked the Peripheral on prime that almost did my head in a couple of times.. and night skies, that took a while to get started however, and 3 pines i liked the scenery and somewhat quirky characters.
  10. If i get caught up in the movie i don't really notice anyone else. Until its time to leave, then its form a line with everyone else and trample out. When its a good movie everyone is abuzz and there's a good atmosphere and thats nice to be a part of. I noticed that with the latest bay boys and the axel F sequel. I don't think either brought anything new to the franchise, however they were well received and everyone one walked out chatty like. I try to do my bit for the cinemas and support them when i can. During covid and just after, crowd numbers were way down, even now i seriously doubt that they have recovered to pre covid levels. I do have prime and netflix acc's watching a new release is $18-24 on prime here. I may as well go to the cinemas for that price or wait a couple of months till it comes down to $6 which is a much more reasonable price considering the internet speeds here. On a personal level, i have kinda discovered Noir movies. There's something about the absence of colour that i find interesting. Maybe its the period its set in, so different from today. Once my camera turns up i intend to develop more of a black and white mentality. My other camera is slowly dying it has a couple of issues it still takes pictures and records considering its 16 years old i guess i haven't done too bad lol.
  11. i'm first, not that its a competition or anything😉 however it doesn't take much to entertain me, so i'll lead off with the fact that i'm waiting for the accountant 2 to hit the cinemas. I liked the first one, so i'm quite happy go for a drive and watch a movie, buy some popcorn, consume that with the expectation that i should enjoy the second.
  12. Not a fan of DHL it took two days for my camera to cross japan (which is pretty good i would think) a day to transit to here and for the last 13 days straight its been sitting somewhere in a warehouse, with a clearance event / on hold message every day. Technically they still have 5 days to deliver it. Considering its a 6 hour round trip. I presume there's 2 drivers busying themselves, playing rock, paper, scissors. 28 February 20256:52 pm (UTC +10:00) Clearance Event xxxx 1 Piece ID: jxxxxxxxxx Friday28 February 20256:52 pm (UTC +10:00) Shipment is on hold xxxxxxxxx 1 Piece ID: jxxx
  13. I don't normally google people, but for the sake of science. It actually takes more than 0.5 seconds to google someone, i just tried it... Well it takes me longer... not sure what says about my internet skills. Hello, I'm Ed! I'm a director and DP based in London with a focus in socially conscious, factual work. yada, yada, yadda. I hope i googled the right person because that could be embarrassing. Likes dark colours obviously. Cant hold the beard or glasses against him either, as i have both too. I do worry that he goes dressed out at night in dark clothing, cause thats like, just asking to be run over, he should probably have some hi vis on... Maybe Mr Reid knows him, however i don't and neither does eatstoomuchjam apparently.. Although i do watch media division and generally like their content. They do produce some pretty slick content, but at the end of the day their still selling something. Not sure how, there's no obvious affiliate links. I'd say 90 % of youtube are trying to sell you something. Perhaps the other 10% are approaching it from the other end and hoping to review stuff and and keep it. If i was cynical i'd then say, sell it on the quiet a few weeks later. However its 2025 and that kinda stuff wouldn't happen right ? Btw at what age can i justify grumpy old men syndrome ? (i feel like im almost there...) I know its a small group and not everyone lives long enough to join. I feel like there should be a merit badge or button perhaps for when you do. Being grumpy doesn't necessarily make you wrong either, just grumpy. Me being me, i tend to avoid the obviously grumpier ones (there's some real gold for you there ! ) eatstoomuchjam, may i suggest you add some Manuka honey, either Nz honey or Australian maluka honey. Both have excellent antimicrobial and antibacterial characteristics. affiliate links down below...😉
  14. I suspect that if you fire off a xenon flash in a museum, even off a phone, you better be prepared to do some very fast talking in the next couple of minutes 😉 Extreme user cases aside, i loved my samsung galaxy s3 the colours on that screen were just gorgeous. I think perhaps there was added saturation but i loved it anyway lol. After much use, maybe some abuse i realized it now had its own inbuilt glow filter. Made for some dreamy photos of mums with daughters, daughters on horses, awesome stuff. For that reason i can't take smartphones seriously for photos, sooner or later the glass will get scratched and image quality takes a hit. I'm now on an Iphone 13 pro max, its a few years old now. I do enjoy the convenience that a smartphone with a camera adds to life, however for serious planned stuff, i'll grab a dslr. If a manufacturer, android or apple made a smartphone with a great camera and had a slidable lens cover i'd buy it in a heartbeat, please don't tell me such a beast exists as i don't need a new smartphone yet!! btw i'm not talking about adding a hard case that has a lens cover either. I want it built in or removable like a camera lens, selfish i know but i want my cake and eat it too.
  15. yes its a fl lm3. I can just make out the model number in a different photo. No idea if it came bundled with the camera. there's no box for the flash only a soft fabric pouch in the photos. Your right about cables, after market cables can be a minefield. Years ago my blue yeti usb cable died relatively quickly, maybe within 6 weeks.. replacing that with something that works took three different attempts. I recently bought two different 5 pin midi cables. After doing a continuity test with a multimeter, neither was ever going to work as the wrong pins had been wired up. I anticipated that and had bought extra xlr sockets to rewire with anyway.
  16. yes olympus flash, not sure of the guide number as it doesn't look overly big. but some flash is better than no flash. I presume original cable it has those toroidal rings things surrounding the cable. there's also a plastic molded thingy that i presume secures the cable to camera.
  17. here's an interesting tibit. I bought a uv torch in the 365nm range i think. for illuminating rocks or rocks that fluoresce under uv light. After playing around with the only rock specimen i own (at the moment) i started pointing it at everything else in the room (as you do... ) Surprisingly the olympus e-m10 ii has small bits in the plastic housing that fluoresce. I know surprised me too.. I guess there all sorts of material in plastic, maybe even recycled stuff but i'm speculating there. i should get some photos for posterity. By the way, there's an Olympus e-m1 iii body on the way. Comes with a v30 card and flash. Low shutter count of 1000 photos. looks mint in the photos. Must have picked a bad day to go against the us dollar, or ebays estimate of currency transactions is extremely optimistic... Because there was definitely a thump in the guts when i clicked buy it now and the price jumped up about $120 or perhaps buyers remorse kickin in lol.
  18. Thanks for that. Thats about what i was expecting. I can run my fingers parallel to the camera and i can get them to about 50mm from the front of the camera body before i can see them in the frame. Perhaps it will be like you said and the field of view will be slightly smaller. Only one way to find out...
  19. its been a little while... I have rehashed everything looked around a bit more and come to the conclusion that the OM-D E-M1 iii will be joining the little gang of cameras that i own. It can be the big brother to the em10 ii that i have. I have the artisans 4mm fisheye lens and the sirui 24mm 1.33 anamorphic in mft. Oddball lens choices i know, however i like the quirkiness. There is a couple more normal type mft lenses and a whole bunch of vintage lenses that i can adapt to it as well. Considered the Panasonics however they have one small quirk which made them less suitable for use in the animation department. Probably would have been great for video. Also considered the canons but i'm just nonplussed on canon at the moment and that's just me i guess. would like to have gone a little more video centric however i don't do a lot of video. I kinda rationalized it out in my head, thinking that i have few interesting mft lenses and some normal ones, that the upgraded m1 iii aught to do them justice and i don't need to spend any more on lenses. I do have one niggle perhaps, the artisans 4mm has a 225 degree field of view, not a problem on the em10 i have. I also tend to use something like a monopod to keep my hands out of the way with a remote trigger. Its just easier to give my hands something to do and i dont have to think about it or take photos with protruding limbs in them. The m1 has a more protruding hand grip, curious to know if it will be a problem on the m1, anyone have any experience on the matter ? I can always do the same with the m1 i guess.
  20. did you get it sorted ? i have a vague memory that i could turn mine off on the mavic 2 pro as it was the only way i could get it to fly through a 2 meter high natural stone arch.
  21. Since the guy is already a billionaire, i doubt that right or fair is going to come into play. Especially when more millions / billions are at stake. There's no way he going to stand there and say, what would Jesus do ? It is kinda ironic through, the movie studio's have been tying up movie rights, soundtracks, copyright for decades and longer, now their crying foul.

    Lenses

Anyone using an unconventional lens out there ? I have the 7artisan 4mm 2.8 mft lens. I quite like it, although its much too easy to get a finger / head / foot in the picture. Its also fiddly to focus even with peaking. It seems to me the plane of focus isn't actually accurately represented by the peaking. There's more testing to do yet and i need to get my brain accustomed to what the peaking is telling me and what the range on the lens is telling me and maybe the fstop / dof is contributing to the issue as well. Probably the nicest image so far but still away to go. I do have some thoughts on using it for video however i figure i need to get my brain working with images side of things first. I also have some thoughts on mounting everything to a monopod but thats another story. Probably when more parts arrive to build it up.
  23. You had a lot of nice things to say about the codecs and other stuff in the Panasonic GH5 Review and exclusive first look at Version 2.0 firmware - EOSHD.com - Filmmaking Gear and Camera Review Has anything changed ? because i'm almost sold on a gh5.
