I'm looking forward to mounting the ils to a fd 500mm mirror lens which will sit on a sky watcher mount for moon shots. i could add in a 2x teleconverter but i prefer a 1.4 converter. They just seem to have an edge to me. Which is something i don't have at the moment. Isn't it ironic, how companies decide on how to implement features. Some critical thinkers might go with the word crippled but i like to be more polite usually.

I would expect out of the 100 000 crowd probably 95000 filmed that section with their smart phones. I doubt any of them would be accredited, I would have too, if i'd been there... 🥰 Hopefully the emoji displays properly as i been having issues with those little suckers.. I presume there would be licencing agreements and financial arrangements between the afl and tv stations about video copyright. I suppose neither group like the idea of having potentially a 100 000 smart phones or a smaller amount of cameras at the event but there's probably not much that can be done about it within reason. I could certainly see them getting agitated at someone wandering in with a 600mm lens without prior arrangement and i don't have a problem with that. I suspect a 600mm lens comes under "professional use" rather normal use or casual use. Personally i can see three use cases, for cameras at events, maybe you can think of more. 1) I can show my friends and family without issue that i was there having a good time 2) I could take a ten second selfie of my ugly mug and a very small pixelated kylie strutting her stuff in the background for a vlog, again no real issues. 3) I could conceivably somehow sneak a small monopod, a modern mirrorless camera with two forms of stabilization and a 10 times zoom and have at it, without paying a large chunk of money to either company and reproducing it on my social medium of choice. How to make money out of it, i have no idea. Maybe its not about the money, it could be the likes i guess or even giving the finger to the establishment. What people do and why, continues to amaze me at times. But i think we could both agree, due to intent, option 3 is wrong (probably on many levels) Initially i read this and had no idea what you were alluding to. In hindsight i missed the emoji as it didn't display for me properly, i now suspect what you said was tongue in cheek, it seems i misunderstood your meaning and jumped to the wrong conclusion, which may have led to the piracy issue you raised, sorry about that. Any time there is money involved or to be made, people are going to get antsy if they think their missing out. I suspect if you hosted an event free or otherwise and were the only person organised to cover that event and expected a financial return from publishing online and i rock up with my 8k gopro on a gimbal and wave it around and you find my video online for a small fee or even free later that evening, you'd be a little agitated, your not going to give me a medal.

Lets just remember its basically an action camera that had fixed focus for the longest time. Gopro are to be lauded for giving us a mount that allows different lenses, maybe not every lens in the world, but an improvement on what came before. I look at like, baby steps, its a start. Getting af and every other modern lens feature would be akin to putting another man on the moon i think. Probably not doable for $700 us I suspect electronics and af motors in the lens would probably drain the battery pretty quick. The mission 1 does have better battery life, i guess GoPro didn't want to jeopardise that for a pretty niche product. Well i think of af as a pretty niche product, for the longest time cinema cameras didn't have af, realistically af is a fairly new development. No doubt lots of people will argue about it but i have gotten used to peaking and for me no af is a abit of a non event anyway.

Emanuel, drop anything from a suitable height and you'll get results... although i wont go into detail about how to maximise your results... pink floyd once did a bootleg of the bootleggers taken from their concerts. Considering the price of tickets for these events these days aren't cheap. I feel it should probably come with a digital download after the event. I don't condone for want of a better phrase err... event video piracy however if its a 1 off event and its for personal use like nostalgia then i feel thats ok, however it you make a living from filming events and aren't accredited then thats just wrong.

Good to know, i have gotten used to the peaking on the e-m1 iii. Occasionally i can still mess it up however but most times it works ok and i have to add its not the camera, its me with my Goldilocks syndrome, it has to be just right... I presume that if i use a fast aperture then the corresponding zone of focus is narrower too for the peaking and with a wider aperture then the peaking occurs across a wider zone of focus thats my thinking, although i cant say i have ever seen anything on youtube to confirm or deny that.

OK I'm now excited too... Redid the gopro form, seems like the gopro system didnt like my street address. For some bizarre reason it was falling over on the suburb although that hasn't changed in twenty years. Actually even the local police station couldn't find my address when i first moved here. Which momentarily had me thinking about an alternative job direction 😉 I should have thought about it earlier. Its a major pita as all government centers think i live one suburb across even when i ring for an ambulance i have to tell then i'm in the next suburb. Since its a long weekend this weekend i doubt i will learn much before Tuesday / Wednesday. Any peaking available on the ils ? i read somewhere that gopro do some sort of glowy thing that supposed to help but thats all i know.

the mission 1 ils seems to be more rare than a unicorn or hens teeth here in aus. i would buy 1 in a heartbeat. as i have the mission 1 pro already. I have tried to buy from gopro here in aus however the sale, for want of a better word is (blocked) its not falling over because off insufficient funds, something else stops it. i could pay cash for an alexa or high speed phantom if i desired, so i know i'm not the problem. b&h photo wont ship it to aus. thirdly, pro av one listed as one of the few available resellers for gopro here in aus called me back today after i made a request on their webpage. basically, their middleman who gets cameras for them, have no idea when one will be available. Their not even taking orders for when they do become available. His advice was to be very careful chasing an ils as he feels there are some odd things happening. He did also ask a bunch of questions whether i had m43 lenses already and other things, once i had satisfied his curiosity he was quite happy to discuss the ils. I suspect he wanted to make sure it wasnt a rushed purchase and i had some idea of what i was getting myself into. Thats kind of nice when most are just chasing a sale. congrats to anyone who does manage to get hold of one. Not sure if it because of gopro got sold or something else but it looks like it will be awhile before one falls into my hands.

Looks a lot like clickbait.🤪 Getting back to lenses i have been looking at the new 4.5mm - 10mm from laowa its a very unique lens going from a circular look to 180 fish eye diagonal. I'm not sure why but i seem to be going through a quirky phase at the moment... i realize its a one trick pony but i find myself intrigued by it. I think kye brought it up some time ago when it was in preproduction. Now that its out, i'm tempted to get it although here in aus i cant find it below $1000. B # H have it at a more reasonable $530. Its still a bit pricey i think but then it is bending light around and trying to keep it all together, i guess that does cost some r&d $$. The mission 1 is sitting in the front seat of the Mitsubishi with a little crane gimbal, sadly my dad passed away 3 weeks ago and the 3 weeks before that were a bit crappy as well. I think i just have to bite the bullet and start somewhere.

I probably have the bull by the horns or my understanding is really really flawed. lol I have doubled the capacity of my memory cards 1x micro sd and 1 sd card. Apon opening the package the kingston card it looked like this Its obvious that its been opened previously, theres dust and grit inside the blister pack and the exterior shows signs of lots of rubbing. I have tried it in a couple of cameras and two card readers however it fails to show up on any device. A dud in other words, my other card i have is a kingston 256 gb from the same supplier. Which is a bit surprising as it runs fine and works at near the rated speeds, sometimes a little faster than the rated speeds. Not sure how this got past quality control but its going back tomorrow. The box it came in shows no damage, so i don't think i can blame the postal service. I got this card for the mission 1, while testing it, it doesn't operate at anywhere the rated speeds of 200mb. best i have seen 100 mb write speeds and 120 read speeds . I plan on doing some 4k recording, if it drops frames its going back as well. Both cards are from amazon as i thought there'd be less chance of buying a fake card and the fact i payed good money for both kinda ticks me off. Be interesting to see if this new card helps the shorten the buffering time after you stop recording on the mission1 although thats all dependent on how it handles 4k recording first.

Not suprised about the iphone however i have another lens that i can use on the iphone and it does the same thing by jumping to different lenses. i figured it out in the end. I suspect another app rather than the default photo app will stop its shenanigans. A tripod collar around the middle part of your set up and some magic arms and or cheese plate to hold it together ?

Honestly... i don't know. I was coming at it from somewhat of an animation side of things as i know they used clean plates for various effects i think. im probably barking up the wrong tree. I need to do more research it would seem

The action 6 housing looks a bit tacky although i'm probably nitpicking.. Honestly i don't like watching comparison videos after i have bought something. Its almost guaranteed to start you crying into your beverage of choice lol

I think i will need to watch a few tutorials. I have an idea at the moment but its loosely defined, i need to pin it down somewhat, then do some testing. One thing i noticed today interestingly is, i initially had the new mission1 pegged as taller, wider and chunkier, however thats not the case, its the same height and thickness as the nine, it is about 10mm wider than the nine. Its deceptive when you look at by itself. Probably mostly down to the front lens housing i guess. I even thought the same about the batteries being different as they are calling the mission1 battery enduro2. Yet they are the same size, you would need a micrometer to find a difference. There must be some amazing tech improvements in batteries to increase the capacity but not the size. By the way those craft cutting boards you get cheap at the $2 shops they make really good mouse mats and non slip, not too thick . Pro tip 😉

Good on you for trying something different, i lost interest after the image quality comment.. For two reasons 1) i dont think it will happen, every 2 year old and up has already mastered mums phone, and their bigger and heavier than any action camera i think. Ergonomically and for useability i think there's real constraints to avoid when going much smaller in an action camera for the majority of people. If one wanted a tenfold increase in quality you'd just buy a second hand gopro i reckon or other action camera if your not a fan of gopros. 2) I think the amount of people screaming for less sharpening on camera and letting the user deal with it is a very small segment of the market. Which they have been able to ignore so far. Although with the amount of youtubes available on sharpening and grading online, manufactures may have to lift their game soon. In some instances its happening we have the mission1, now theres also 2 other action camera threads on the forum so we should be well catered for.

At $30 i'd buy one...

I’m just doing a bit of light stirring, I think you can handle it ok. I wouldn’t have bothered if I thought otherwise. Now a question for the group. I would like to film some smoke, I presume in front of a green screen although green colour may or may not work. i do have smoke machine to create the smoke and I think the best option would be to video it as I think a bunch of photos would not give me the smoothness I’m looking for, as i intend to composite as a special effect. im also wondering if i need to shoot a clean plate as well ? I suspect i need to watch a few more vids on compositing to help get my head around it.

Some more stills from resolve, 4k today first up is a sunset, not the prettiest colours but a sunset none the less. i do think when you stop recording 4k the processing continues on for a few seconds longer than standard 1080. Not that i have timed it, that's the feeling i get. I do think the new processor is getting a good workout and there must be a fair chunk of ram hidden in there to buffer things while the processor does its thing. I think the mission1 will probably excel at timelapses as i think this image is quite nice for a still and i haven't gone past the default settings yet. Next up is a kitten image. The interesting thing ( to me ) is the kitten still is after the sunset still by a few minutes yep appear brighter, i presume the mission1 is doing some "magic" in the background to lift the levels. It is quite dark going by human eyes in the shed. Yet you would most likely think this is taken an hour earlier. If i start zooming in i see stuff i don't like pretty quickly and maybe thats from some of the magic that the mission1 employed while it was doing its thing. Overall i think the image is acceptable and footage looks ok ( to me ) on either a computer or ipad i haven't tried a 4k tv yet . I have yet to try 8k and to me 8k, seems like complete overkill. I dont mind 4k reduced down to 1080 the stills seem a little sharper / cleaner perhaps. Although @kye might be a little nonplussed about that 😉 Some motion blur that ( I think ) should indicate the mission1 is operating at a slow shutter speed. I do have some ideas about filming lowlight stuff but it won't be neon lights as theres not much of that out here. Plus there's the fact my dad had a stroke 2 weeks ago and is paralyzed on the right side, so its dad first the farm and animals 2nd and everything else when i can find a moment. Painters pole at near full extension, so thats my arms extended, me gripping the pole at the bottom with both hands and the pole at near full extension, there may have been another 150mm of travel left in the pole not sure. Still i think thats a respectable height to achieve with a gopro without strapping it to a drone. Not sure i could manage more than a few seconds of motionlessness at full height. I suspect the gimbal at the top is helping to calm things down. I reckon if i wanted to incorporate motion, more of a deliberate move from a to b may help keep things steady and maybe not trying for full extension will help as well.

What happens after you release the "film" for public consumption ? Could a city come after you legally ? Since we are talking guerilla style, you know your being a little bit naughty 😳 I personally dont see an issue with two friends talking on the side of a street with another filming unless of course you start closing down streets. Then i can understand the need for permits and counsel approval. Half or three quarters of youtube must be filming outside. I watched a youtuber shoot a timelapse in Italy a week ago. Set up a tripod right in front of some famous place, plonked a dlsr on top and away he went . Mind you he did set up close to a large rock to stop people tripping over it. He also moved around did some behind the scenes stuff. So he was there for awhile, it was very touristy, nobody bothered him. No idea how car parking works in your area. If you could access a minivan, throw a couple of magnetic signs on it, saying such and such tours. When a bunch of loud tourists jump out of it and proceed to wander round willy nilly taking photos, if three of those people are of to the side, it wont alarm any one. You could also do make up and have cold drinks and snacks in the van. Heck have some people tossing a football or baseball around, nothing can be more American than that. I live in an agricultural area, we rely on backpackers to help pick the seasons fruit. I'm always seeing backpackers hanging out in the main street using the free wifi from the banks i think. Seeing phones and tablets is pretty much accepted.

I have finished modifying the painters pole i bought. Comparing the cheapness of selfie sticks verses the price of branded monopods, the painters pole does comes in dearer than a selfie stick and a fair bit cheaper than any monopod. It did need some modifications with a drill and a hacksaw it also required 2 x 1/4 bolts which have now been replaced with 2 black knurled 1/4 inch large diameter "bolts" which makes disassembly or assembly a breeze. The mission 1 fits on the crane m2 gimbal without issue even though it is a little bigger and heavier. i did remove some mass off the base plate, that allowed me to move the camera sideways just enough that i can fold all the axis's flat and stow it away in a plastic protective case in one piece. Remove the two black bolts stow in case and go. A great time saver i think. The first feature i like about it, is its robustness. Painters poles are sturdy pieces of equipment by design. The 2nd feature important to me at least was it has a hexagon shaft extension. which mean i dont have to worry about cams or twist locks, like you find on tripod legs coming adrift or wearing out, they always seem to frustrate me. The minimum height is about 5 feet and i think i can extend it to about 9 feet. I'll have to find a tape measure tomorrow... With gimbal attached the camera is a little lower than my eyes and im nearly 6 feet tall. So i kinda feel like it should be a nice height if i am just holding it upright, time will tell. I have been out today scouting, My town has a bunch of murals painted on various walls all over town, probably most towns have similar. There's actually a path to follow on google if one wanted to search it out. I had the mission 1 in a pocket and the first thing i noticed is that the rubber sun shade can get dislodged pretty easy and intrude into the photo. This is from a burst mode, you know the 960 fps. Interestingly burst mode files sizes seem to come in at about 134 - 144 MB per batch. if you have a look at the two pics you can see the difference in light levels. Straight out of camera we have a jpg ( yes i know i should have shot raw ) i figured i would start with the defaults and see how that goes... These are like only a minute apart and there's not a cloud in the sky. Not that i find the look unpleasant, it is what it is. The mission1 also does a ton of processing after you stop recording, it continues processing for a few seconds. Again not an issue just things i have noticed. If i use the phrase gopro take a picture it will do whatever the mode is set to, however it seems a little finicky in its execution the timing doesn't always seem the same. Theres also a very good chance the error is operator induced, but i think it may be more consistent for me, if i buy a bluetooth remote to trigger it, specifically if your trying to do one man band 960 fps sequences. I have tried half a dozen slow motion things at home with out alot of success.

Nice images, was it overcast that day, they seem a little subdued ? or is that the lens combo you think ? A long way from the top is a good thing i reckon 🤔 Be careful with the at-x pro 28-70mm pro 2.8 there's 3 versions from memory. I forget how to tell which the "better" one is. Google would help no doubt. I also suspect the tokina 28-70 at-x pro's might be flying under the radar. I vaguely remember this lens getting a good rap and an almost cult like status in some video forums. Pentax forums is a handy place to visit... I must be cdo its like ocd but with the letters arranged alphabetically, like they should be 🙂 Would you believe i only just gave that lens a wipe over 😞. I also have had an ef-mft metabones xl speed booster 0.64 arrive. With my metabones the internal focus was way off and the internal element was free to rotate willy nilly. Completely the opposite to your speedbooster Kye. I suspect the screw that holds it tight is maybe either bent or stuck as i cant move it by hand. its also in the open position which allows the element to move freely. I also don't have a screwdriver that small either, so until one arrives, i have a temporary work around. The whole internal lens is losey goosey, i think theres about a half a millimeter of play. I know it seems like huge amount. However it really is quite loose, i can get a rattle out of it, if i shake it. Not sure if that is why it was up for sale, i suspect its been played with then sold when it became all to hard. I initially had the 17mm takumar mounted to it but i think in hindsight that probably wasn't helping, with the depth of field so i put the 50mm on it instead. I can wind the lens element almost all the way in and it becomes a tighter fit and i can get infinity focus ( i think ) i have to double check. No issues with mounting the 50mm on the metabones Here's a pic of the front of the metabones and back of the 50mm takumar. i used the 50mm as that measured the longest out of the measurements i took. There seems to be plenty of room between lens elements. I have the chipped ef mount on it and the back of the takumar barely protrudes, less than a millimeter i think, cant measure it as i tossed the digital calipers... it would be interesting to compare it to the back front of the viltrox. One interesting fact i picked up is that the Olympus em-10 ii and the em-1 iii do not like the ef adapter with the chip on it. The chip is supposed to tell the camera that its a 50 mm f1.4. I always figured some metadata would be nice even if it was wrong data at least i had a place to start. However the Olympus's simply refuse to start up, all i get is a grey screen. If i depress the lens lock mechanism and turn the adapter slightly ( and i presume ) the contacts no longer touch the the cameras will fire up and work. I have two other brands of camera and the chipped ef adapter works fine on them. I have no idea why i haven't noticed it before. The problem is tilting the camera in any direction indicates to the lens, it should try its best, to immediately fall off ( don't ask me how i know this )🙄
