    24p is outdated

How lucky we are --let's all hope we can benefit from loads of personal anecdotes about care-free extravagance & fine-grained looks at political movements. If the world is ready and able to receive it...maybe Jedi can one day gift us with some kind of John Galt on vacation, No Reservations wannabee show, except with zero humanity, skill or entertainment value.
  2. The sensor used in the Z6I & Z6II, Zf, S1, S1H, A7III, amongst others - is available to anyone Sony is willing to sell it to. It will be the same for the new sensor Nikon will use in the Z6III. They will use it for the Zf II, they will use it for the Z5 II. Panasonic will use it for a body or two. So will Sony. When it becomes available on a Blackmagic camera -- you can know it's probably just about on it's way out 😉 This one is probably just going to be able to be read much faster, offer 4K/120 FF & open-gate 6K with much improved rolling shutter. More AF point.s as well. For people who don't care 8K and want the best low-light performance, this will be the sensor inside the best bang-for-buck options in mid-range bodies, and will do very well.
  3. They are much smaller than Canon & Sony, and yes they are conservative & constrained by limitations that accompany relying on Sony for sensors. 2024 is going to start another phase of the cartel arrangement. Nikon will continue to expand their video capabilities and the Z6III is the logical product slot to 'step up' on those features beyond what they would have done previously. No 8K & sticking to 24mpx is the main concession. A lot of shooters will be happy with that and Nikon can expand market share if the sensor is fast and it excels at video.
  4. Normally I would think that's what Nikon would do -- but the Zf uses the same sensor as the Z6II/I. They are due to use a new sensor this time around. A lot of the guts are likely to be the same as Zf; and the second full-size slot is a safe bet. Maybe they would also go CFExpress 2nd slot/4k 120p to make a more compelling video hybrid. Here's to hoping a new N-log, open gate & anamorphic support is also on the list for the Z6III

The futurists are certainly free to have their preferences & do whatever they want in this age - but this properly matches the aesthetics to the general subjects. In this case -- the traditional approach is the superior one 😞 . HFR Lotr was dreadful and a total disaster. Most viewers (in US at least) only saw it projected at 24P. The reality that these days a bunch of people can't tell the difference between any of this is meaningless to me when it comes to what I choose to make. How many people are falling off heights to their deaths taking selfies every year? All of the disposable content, trends and mindless bs that western social media encourages & runs on doesn't automatically fall under the category of 'progress' -- sorry.
  6. coming from mostly Nikon shooting I found the position familiar. I guess it depends on hand size; but I have never felt like I was about to trigger it accidentally and the grip in my hand feels very nice. I hate the position of the click wheel at the backside of the grip way more than that. Had to map it to shutter angle as the least damaging feature while shooting explicitly because that is what I constantly accidentally engage. The lock switch is used for any really important shooting and I wish all cameras had it (along with Nikon's sensor guard).
  7. on my S1H it does drain the battery when not in use, but not in the short time frame mentioned here. I have noticed it mostly drain a fresh battery within maybe two weeks of no use, which I still find ridiculous (I guess it could be same rate when accounting for capacity/different batteries?). Power up is slower than every DSLR I've ever owned. It is quicker after an initial start at the beginning of the day; but still around a second to boot. I also experience inexplicable UI lag/unrecognized button pushes very occasionally. I won't power down at all during a shoot and have so far always been able to swap batteries without a problem. I mostly have shot Nikon & Canon DSLRs and really miss the instant on experience.
  8. Other than the 40mm f2 (plastic mount, yuck), there are no lenses well suited to this body. Optically that lens is supposed to be excellent however. I am really enticed to get it for stills, is anyone familiar with Z manual focus fly-by-wire experience? I am able to get decent 'linear' manual focus with L mount lenses. That + Panny's fantastic focus peaking makes it reliable & pretty enjoyable overall (depending on lens). I would love to be able to use Sigma's DG DN Contemporary primes on this. The FP is ok; but for a compact street setup this would be close to ideal (EVF is mediocre, same 24mpx that is now in a Blackmagic camera hahaha). I came up in late 80s/early 90s when serious shooters used Nikon (photojournalism) & still have a couple F3s and some AIS primes, various Nikkor lenses. Very happy to see they added WFM monitoring. Bodes well for video in the Z6III/future bodies

  10. maybe a lot more folks would jump if they make it a 16-35 1.8 😉
  11. I think the recent momentum of S35 bodies makes a viable market for sigma to release a DN version of these basic ranges. I would really like to see a new 18-35 1.8 and many fx30 (and forthcoming fx60) shooters would scoop them up in short order
  12. Sigma has publicly commented a few months ago that they are wanting to release their version of tele 'trinity' that is special and coming sooner rather than later. I think it will be very similar to Tamron's 70-180 Di III; but they go for a better build at a higher price point than Tamron (still much less than native of course). That lens + a low RS, PDAF-ified S2H would round things out for me and keep me in L mount. Otherwise I totally agree, the Z8 is the best true hybrid option right now. I could also reclaim triggers & flashes (that I still occasionally use with Nikon DSLRs). Rumors of Panasonic using the same stacked sensor as the Z8/Z9 make sense and I hope are true. The exclusivity Nikon got from Sony are probably up as well
  13. I'd be way too worried about a Bridezilla situation depending on a 3rd party adaptor in the mix and having it fail at the most inopportune time with that setup. I'd guess in the foreseeable future Nikon will allow more Sigma lenses for Z, and I think Sigma is likely to make something to compete with the Tamron 35-150, available on L & E as well of course.
  14. This is what I have been thinking too. DPReview bosses probably expected them to had more subscribers by now and viewed continuing paying them as pointless. I think they do an excellent job and don't know why they lagged behind incredibly hacky alternatives Hopefully they got a fair deal with PetaPixel; I typically like their review videos the most.

fwiw I have never liked the look of this person's videos & I've clicked on a bunch. Do whatever you want, mix it all up in an incoherent, unpleasant looking way & blame people's reactions on whatever you want. At the end of that process maybe ask yourself who are you even wanting to watch your videos. On one level they're right -- considered use of previous convention is kind of all out the window as audiences turn into evermore complete mushheads; largely forgetting the 'content' before it's done flashing in front of their eyes answays. Alongside that, is a flood of people who don't have a lot of knowledge making all this filler. All that shared naivety IS - and will continue - to shape how mass audiences consume this form of media; but we have our choices to make too. It's the price to pay in the 'democratization' of image making.
  16. 1440 x 1080 pixels @ 60fps for those interested Raspberry Pi Global Shutter Camera Review: High-Speed Captures | Tom's Hardware (tomshardware.com) Could see someone making a cool super 8 rig with the new sensor. The rolling shutter on the HQ is bad.
  17. So a single Panny body with low RS? I was really surprised to read that there is (allegedly, same leaker as S5II) S1 successor coming. If they are following same pattern 'd expect it to use the same 33 mpx as Sony, with the same terrible RS. The cartel is now allowing Panny into the adequate hybrid AF club. Meanwhile Sony's few shortcomings (except for the ergos -- which I suppose don't bother a lot of new shooters & are probably permabaked into the line) are starting to fall away with the release of the A7IV/A7RV. Is Panny trading in the AF but keeping terrible RS in FF across the whole line? I kind of think you are right and what they might be planning for the S1 is to extend the Sony license of the S1R sensor, with the PD abilities unlocked just like the S5II. That would then leave some kind S1H/EVA pro video successor to 'complete' the line.
