Last weekend I shot a concert with my friend, myself on the GH5 and him on the Pocket 4k. After the first rehersal when we were setting up the shot, he came up to me and said "you know what the lights are all over the place so I'm just gonna set the exposure for the darkest moments and shoot BRAW so when the lights hit you'll be able to just bring down the exposure with ISO setting". I didn't know too much about shooting on the Pocket so I agreed and off we went.

Well, it turns out when you shoot above 1250, you can't go lower than that since it's when the second ISO gain engages. It's something I had no idea about (since I shoot on the GH5) and he neither (since he never shot above that before). Now I'm stuck with overexposed shots and an understandably mad client. So learn on my lesson and don't do that.. Or you know, read the friking manual like you should.

That´s unfortunate. When I´m recording concerts I´ll expose for the brightest moments or at least for the spotlight on the singer. Those animated light-shows can really be all over the place, but that way I can have as much control as possible. Thanks for sharing that lesson, nevertheless!

I'm looking for a portrait lens to complement the Voigtlander 17.5mm. Is this lens a good choice?

Are we talking about a lens for video, stills photography or both?

I´ve been using the Rokinon for video only and was never disappointed. Like most of the Rokinons/Samyangs they can be a little soft wide open, but @2.8 you get the best of both worlds. Sharp and detailled Images with smooth bokeh.

    Thank you!

No specific look ... grading was to test DR and color fidelity.

Canon 50 F 1.2 for one and Zeiss 100 F2 Makro for the other ... listed in the opening credits.

Really looking at highlights and how natural the overall feel could be ...

My bias is from the perspective of a landscape and portrait photography background ... so I tend to pick times for the appropriate

light and convey what it imparts to a scene.

    Great!

I own the Pocket 4k and like it a lot, but I stay with 25p for most of my Projects, as I really don´t like the look that 50/60p provides in terms of motion.

It will be interesting in what way high-resolution cameras will or wont change our perception of film-like images.

Even with 4k it´s sometimes too much sharpness and not enough organic structure. I´m looking forward to the upcoming Pocket 6K Footage, Portrait-Shots as well as some short films.

Here are a couple of short-lived videos ... cannot leave them up for long due to music I added for myself ... hate looking at video without a background of sound.

Not cinema ... no drama ... just moving pictures ... video if it suites you. Capture at 5.7K BM Raw Quality 0 to the CFast card in 24p without and difficulty and

rendered on a 4K DCI timeline with a 2K DCI output. Output as ProRes 422

Nice shots in there, some of them very clear and with lots of details! ?

What Lens/es did you use here?

What look did you want to achieve, or was it only a simple test of the cameras resolution etc?

Oooooh external recorders that allow you to captures BM Raw on all the raw SDI and HDMI raw (Z6 and maaaaybe S1H) cameras would be awesome.

Im going to switch to Da Vinci sometime soon anyway and I love BM Raw.

Yeah, Video-Assist 2.0 with BRAW would be awesome, maybe even with some optional wireless options via HDMI/SDI-Dongle or a Transmitter for their cameras.

Isn't this on the colorists? The behind the scenes footage almost looks like they are shooting day for night with how bright everything is lit.

Those were basically my first thoughts. I´d guess Mr Wagner isn´t the the colorist on GoT, so he has no control over how they grade the footage.

He did Justice League, a movie with a lot of night scenes and studio work, and while the movie has a lot of problems, the cinematography was alright.

Still, he didn´t chose his words carefully enough, although I don´t think it´s his obligation to respond at all.

Personally I think the P4K and a vintage lens is a winning combo.

Or some of the Rokinon/Samyang Cine-Lenes.

I like the look my Sigma ART Lenses create with the Pocket4K, but if you want a more vintage look, older manual Lenses are a great option.

After flip flopping about buying it for myself and my freelance work, i   spoke to someone at the production house I work at very regularly, and they bought it through the company.

Best of both worlds I guess ?

I'm taking it home this weekend to get it set up for them.

Best of both worlds indeed ?

By the way when is the BRAW firmware update due for the Pocket 4K?

I´m hoping for an (early) Christmas present from BMD. For most of the stuff I´m filming ProRes gives me enough control, but as soon as BRAW is available, it might become my first choice of file-formats.

While I agree 1h or 1h20 battery life would have been really nice to give us, it is not a deal breaker.

I agree. Right now I´m waiting for the cable-set to be shipped to use a V-Mount-Sollution to power the camera on the rig.

For Gimbal use I can change the battery if nessecary, but otherwise it´s not that bad.

As for other things I´d like to see besides Blackmagic Raw:

Cinemascope Recording-Modes and a better Playback-Interface would be great.
