Pictured below is a shot of my rubber ring solution to eliminate the square rainbow edge flare that the pre-36 gives with taking lenses other than the factory

Wow, thak you so much gor this information, and provided picture. I will certainly try this out.

I also noticed veiling glare on my pre 36, especially with wide 35mm taking lens used with a speed booster on m43.

The sharpie trick seems nice, but I am affraid of messing around that little beauty.

Is there anything that could be done with the front element of pre 36 that is none destructive yet helps with the veiling glare?

It can be used in Resolve, without the Vlog PRE needed in Premiere (walkthrough in the next Pdf)

Oh, I might have missed the point here. Does this mean PRE is only to be used with Premiere and in Resolve it is not needed no matter the codec used?

  3. 33 minutes ago, Sage said:

Yes, if its VLog in DNX (hides the unique flagging of VLog L for correct levels) it would need the ProRes PRE

Ok, thanks, I just wanted to make sure there is no need for DNxHD PRE i.e. if one uses ProRes or DNxHD the same ProRes PRE needs to be applied.

In post, a PRE matching the format of the footage (& NLE) is first applied

Does one need to use PRE if DNxHD is use

Then the conversion is applied, followed by the grade/correction for under/over exposure

Do you need to put a new serial (Resolve) and then apply exposure correction or you do it on the same node where you apply conversion?

Hi all,  inspired by great results from @Sage and his GH5 to Alexa Conversion I wondered if there are enough GH5S users here who would help out in getting the same for GH5S.
As the prerequisite to get this done is having GH5S camera, the way to do it is to fund a rental for a week. The price is around $100 for three days and $144 for the week. The latter will give him more time to do the work, and that's why I suggested a week of rental. A round trip shipping is around $40.

I will start with a donation of $50, and would kindly ask anyone who is interested to contribute with as much as they feel comfortable with.
In order not to make this an endless loop, everyone who contributes could simply reply here with the amount until we reach $190/200 or if you don't feel confortable posting the amount here you can PM me or we can simply trust @Sage to report us when the fund has been collected.

Now, I might have written too much text, but wanted to make sure there's no scam behind this, just a mutual endeavor of GH5S users.

    The PayPal address is emotivecolor@gmail.com
@Sage please confirm this is a valid email address so there are no doubts.

    Thanks and cheers!!!

  6. @Sage Will the new PDF contain instruction of "optimal" setup?
In other words, what camera settings are expected (sharpness level etc.)?
How do you prefer to expose? ETTR or 55 IRE for the skin tones (by the book)?
What is your post process, do you apply Noise Reduction and Sharpening or simply throw the LUT and play with curve a little bit?
Any other tip would be welcome as well.
    Thanks!!!

No S yet, I'm still completely occupied with updating the 5; in any case if I get to it, you will get it

5 and 5S nicely compliment each other. It would really be great to have it for both.

However, I am not sure how many of your buyers have 5S, and it has built in OLPF, different sensor and cannot asses how much extra work this is for you. I just hope it is high on your list once you’re done with 5. :)

    Thanks and cheers!!!

It took me some time to read the whole thread, and of course this was too much info to comperhand at once. First of all, great work, it looks really nice. Now my questions:

    1. I noticed some were using these LUTs with GH5S, but you have also mentioned one should email you in case when GH5S was used. Is this still the case? I mean is there GH5S version?

    2. I was thinking of using V-Log recorded externaly to Atomos ProRes HQ at 4k 24fps, and 1080 at 120fps internally, but coudn’t conclude what was concensus on 120fps Vlog 8-bit or Cinema-D?

    3. What about HLG, is it still less prefered than V-Log?

    4. Finally, should one overexpose for V-Log 10bit 4k 24fps and if so how much, two stops? Also, for 120fps, how to expose for Cinema-D and how for V-Log 8 bit?

    5. Ah, I do have one more. Are there monitoring LUTs available for all modes?

    Thanks and cheers!!!

@Sage Nah, I bought it anyways, looks too good not to give it a try.

This tool does exactly what you want, Panasonic Vlog to LC709A:

    http://cameramanben.github.io/LUTCalc/LUTCalc/index.html

Thanks for this, I’ll see if I can understand what’s needed to be done. For a user like me I’d probably need something like:

    1. Upload your LUT and specify which camera it was and it’s log and gammut settings.

    2. Specify destination camera, log and gamut

    3. Click on generate :)

Still, thanks a lot, it is a start indeed.

  11.

I have few LUTs from Alister Chapman which were made for Slog2 S-Gamut which I really like. He also made the same LUT to compensate if the exposure was wrong so for example for a ARI style one can find: 1 Under, Normal, 1 Over, 2 Over and 3 Over LUTs so if one was off with his exposure it quickly corrects this.
As I have moved from Sony to Panasonic, I wondered if there is a way to reuse this LUTs by converting them from Sony Slog2 S-Gamut to Panasonic Vlog.

  12. I have one question related to external recording to Atomos. In GH HDMI is set to 4k 50/60p, internal recording is set to 4k 23.98.

What is the fps rate Atomos is recording? When I import to Davinci it shows 23.98 fps, but not sure if I checked anything and Davinci auto converts or Atomos is really recording in 23.98 fps even though the output is GH settings is set to 50/60p.

This is probably going to be the final beta v801, with the new LUTs being sent out shortly. Skin tones less orange/magenta. Remember, you’ve got to ETTR and set saturation in camera to -5 with the new version.

    Sample

This looks rather good. One quick question as I am not so familiar with HLG. Once you ETTR, take you footage in HLR and apply this LUT one can start with grading or HLG is not so much suited for this and it is better to use V-Log-L?
Also, as HLG doesn't work with VBR, I have read that Cine-D is the way to go when let's say 120fps is in use. Will there be or is there a matching LUT for Cine-D as well?
    Thanks and cheers.

  14. Ok, the lens has arrived. It is very, very nice given its age. The focus is very smooth, but it requires much more force then my Leica M or R glass. Few dust particals, but super clean glass. Maybe I’ll send it to Brian in New York for CLA, but not yet, I have just received it. :)

Is this expected or I should take it apart and relube the helicoid? What lube would you recommend? I was thinking of using very small amount of this https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0014ZU03M/ref=ox_sc_saved_image_2?smid=A2YDFU61Q3TGJD&psc=1 or something even thinner if anyone suggests.

PS Metabones XL EF -> Leica R to EF adapter -> Summicron-R 50mm fits. I should received the clamp today and finally check what it delivers.

FYI comments like this tend to make other not want to help rather than encourage them to take time away from their lives to help out... I have owned a dozen anamorphic lenses from the gold isco's to cineovisions but I guess the two day time limit is up for advice.

That’s ok. I said what I meant and I meant what I said (Dr. Seuss).

I also apologized and all in all I believe I am set, it will either work or it won’t.

    Cheers everyone!!!

-consider that the summicron has a protruding back element, so it might bump into your speedbooster XL and not reach infinity

I will receive it tomorrow and try it out. Was under impression it would work based on this picture.

it sounds like you're more of a proxiscope shooter instead of maxiscope

Yes I am trying to purchase Proxiscope. I wish though there was a version which would rotate, but keep the threads in place so ND filter doesn't spin when focusing.

Thanks for the comments. I can't wait to put the lens on the camera. :)

Could this thread on here help you??

Yes, this helped a lot. I had spent some time doing my own research, came to conclusion what would have been the best available addons for Iscorama and only then shared my thoughts in the initial post. Just wanted to get some kind of confirmation I was on the right path, and if my ideas deviated from general consensus an advice from more experienced users then I am.

Anyhow, I purchased Redstan clamp and in a proces of purchasing Proxiscope.

One thing that struck me, and actually made me reply to my initial post was Alan Doyle from Redstan.

First I was bugging him with numerous silly questions about the clamp, and eventually (after I bought the clamp), on his own (he probably realized how silly/confused I was), without asking him, he wrote me two pages about Iscorama 36, which were a real pleasure to read, from Iscorama’s usage history to the taking lenses. I was so amazed by his approach that I had to write it here.

Nhf everyone, first next thing is to test how good/bad the copy I bought is. I’ll keep you posted.

    Cheers!!!

  18. Hi all, I am totally new to anamorphic world, and my only experience was with iPhone, and SLR Magic Compact 40... ...damn, is this Iscorama expensive. :)

Anyhow, my plan it to mostly used it as run and gun setup with following gear:

    Camera: Panasonic GH5S
Lenses: Leica Summicron-R 50mm and added Metabones 0.64x for wider shots.
    Gimbal: Zhiyun Crane 2
Smallrig camera base with 8in/20cm rods.

I also own Leica M glass which was acquired during the past decade out of which I might try to use Summicron-M 75mm and APO-Telyt 135mm.
The setup will be used on tripod, but as already written above it will mostly be used as run and gun on the gimbal so it needs to stay small, compact and "light". This brings me to next part of the setup.

There is a Proxiscope close focus mod for Iscorama 36, and new Maxiscope. I will probably go with the former as the latter seems a bit tricky (or better to say I don't comprehend it all at the moment), yet it is very tempting as it includes new housing with a ring mount.

What I am not sure of is what clamp would you recommend to bond the taking lens and Iscorama?
I have checked Redstan Iscorama Clamp, and it seems quite well built. This is my favorite so far if I go with Proxiscope. If I go with Maxiscope which seems to include a full pack I wouldn't need clamp at all.

I would kindly ask Iscorama owners what they think about the best solution would be going Proxiscope + Clamp route or Maxiscope?
In Maxiscope video one can see the mod removes inside elements rotation lock. I am not sure how often would this require adjustments as it can freely spin. Probably it wouldn't, just a thought.

    Thanks a lot!!!

    PS
Did I say Iscorama was quite expensive? ;)
