  1. Yikes, I shoot in those temps or hotter every day. If I can't get any video at all while out shooting stills in the sun, my R5 preorder is on life support as of now. I really like shooting with the EOS R, but I was looking at the R5 as my A-cam, not something for just cutaways or a stills only body. Every new bit of info makes it more likely I'll be holding on to the a7r3 and adding a a7s3 preorder - so close to dropping Sony's ergos, menus and shitty touchscreen. Chris
  2. Not gonna lie, I'm on the fence with the R5 a little more than I have been as more has come out over the last few days. I do live/work in a hot/humid Florida climate. I have a Ninja V, which looks like it would eliminate most issues since a vast majority of my stuff is 24p - but that 120p of the R5 means I don't need something like a Zcam for killer slow-mo. I don't shoot continuous long takes or even leave the camera on in between them most times - the pre-Z battery a7's taught me to habitually shut my cameras off. What has me concerned - I do shoot a lot of sunrises and sunsets - so I grab a bunch of stills and as the light changes I stab the record button and grab 10-15 seconds of video - constantly switching between them. Those shooting sessions are always in the 30-45 minute range and the morning temps are around 80f, but the evening is more mid-90's right now. IDK, starting to think a a7s3/a7r4 might be the better way for me to go and just shoot both simultaneously (ugh, I have to be the guy carrying two tripods on the beach). I just hate swapping lenses between bodies to get the same FOV, especially since I shoot my 16-35 a lot - hence the desire for a unicorn 1-camera solution. Its interesting reading comments on the Fred Miranda Canon board or even Canon rumors, seems like most doesn't care at all, so this camera is still going to be a huge hit with the stills crowd and lots of people that haven't gone mirrorless yet. Thankfully I'll have a couple days to sort through all the announcement hype and decide before B&H starts shipping R5's - assuming my order 5 minutes into it going live is in the 1st wave. I'd rather not do the whole, order/test/return thing because I think that's taking advantage of a great return policy, but I'm not sure if this will work for me anymore and I'd really need a couple weeks or so to sort it all out. Chris
  3. It says Steadyshot Inside right on the body, that looks like an IBIS confirmation to me. Chris
  4. The video didn't show a HDMI cable, the guy from the video commented on SAR that the external recorder was recording at 50p, so who knows. Seems weird to have an external only option that's almost impossible to record at the moment, how are all the Youtubers going to proclaim it the greatest camera ever if they can't test it? Unless there's an ass kicking Ninja VI about to be dropped, which would make sense because I recently bought the Ninja V.
  5. The screen in that video says 10-bit 4:2:2 4k 100p, which would mean 120p for those of us in NTSC-land. If it can do it internally with no issues, this rises to the top of my list since I can shoot it alongside an a7r3 or 4 for landscape work. I have a Ninja V for external recording, but it can't do 4k120. It also blows out a few of the rumors on SAR as false. Guess we'll see soon enough. Chris
  6. That's a significant bump compared to the 15 or so minutes people seem to be getting internally in HQ mode. Plus ProRes files will be easier to edit than the massive bitrate the R5 generates.
  7. This guy has a better image that shows 4k 10-bit internal at 100fps
  8. This looks much better than the ZV1 version of that stabilization. The geometric corrections look much better than stabilizing in the editor too. Interesting he's recommending a 90 degree shutter and you have to turn off steadyshot. That would be something to set to a custom setting on the dial. Curious if the a7s3 will adopt shutter angle like Panasonic to make life a little easier. Chris
  9. True, the last couple weeks feel like the old Photokina and NAB announcements all rolled together. Being stuck inside more certainly doesn't help either. Either way, I'm finally getting a camera that does FF 4k up to 60p while having IBIS and great AF, I'll finally be able to consolidate to just one mount. Everything else is icing on the cake for me. The only question is E-mount or RF-mount. I already have the R5 on order, I may get the a7s3 as well and just keep the one I like best and sell off the other. I can live with the small hit to spend a month or two testing and seeing which one is better for my workflow. Cheers Chris
  10. I would have just clone stamped any identifiers out. If Sony's smart, they'll have markings in different places on different bodies to see who's violating NDA's with leaks like this. Although I'm convinced all of these "leaks" have always been just simple marketing tactics. It would be silly for manufacturers to not use rumor sites to their advantage to drum up pre-order hype. At least seeing "steadyshot inside" means IBIS. Chris
  11. Let me clarify, I'm not advocating silencing anyone or every discussion being all rainbows and puppy dogs, its just that a lot of people in groups and forums spend time endlessly bashing everything just for the sake of trashing what they don't shoot. This creates all the internet echo chamber bullshit, I've seen every camera on the market called unreliable and unusable for various reasons. I try to stay away from that kind of hyperbole because its nonsense, but even I get sucked up into it at times. Every camera has shortcomings that should be discussed so people can make informed decisions. From reading some comments, people seem to have their personal identity tied to whatever brand they shoot and take competition as some sort of personal insult, its silly at times. Cheers Chris
  12. IMO most of the hysteria is from unreasonable expectations - many from people that aren't going to buy the camera anyway - like the keyboard warriors that shoot other brands and just bash everything else, aka the SAR crowd. Remember when the a7's were trash because of the shitty colors, rampant overheating, single card slot, poor weather sealing, crappy battery and so on? Its taken Sony 4 generations to get most of it right, and they're still rolling 8-bit video. I just kept shooting with them. Its seems like people thought the R5 was going to be a C500mkII with IBIS and internal raw in a tiny hybrid body. There will have to be limitations without active cooling. Look at the a7s3 as the air that continually gets let out of the balloon when more specs leak. Its a $3500 12mp 4k60p camera with no internal raw and no oversampling. Makes the R6 look better and better IMO. I'm torn between both as I shoot Sony and Canon - but that 120p internal and the raw internal option - even for just short clips which is all I shoot anyway - still makes me lean toward the R5. I'll wait for the full a7s3 reveal before making a final decision. Chris
  13. First images of the camera. Looks like the body is a little fatter, but tough to say with any certainty.
  14. The skeptic in me wonders how much cash was involved from the Sony side, like a sponsorship deal. Pretty interesting development nonetheless, the CaNikon press photographer duopoly now has very visible competition. Sony pushed, made needed changes to the a9II while bringing the glass and now has a real visible foothold. This is a good sign for a future RF mount version of the 1dx. If a major agency is willing to make a switch like this, CaNikon will be feeling the heat. More competition is always better, feedback from the AP team will make the a9III even better. Lets hope they ask for video profiles LOL! Chris
  15. Yes, with this we all win, we're totally spoiled by choices. Sony always claims 15 stops, just check the a73 product page. Its certainly going to be right in line with other current FF cameras - that I'm willing to bet on. Improved color, 10-bit and the higher bitrate along with real AF are what interests me most. Though if they add PDAF, it will be interesting to see if there are issues with the low mp sensor shooting into the sun. Cheers Chris
  16. The latest rumor: "The A7Siii will have the S-Cinetone colorscience. The sensor will be an Exymos R CMOS Sensor. Sony will add Movie Edit add-on compatibility for Image Stabilization in post. So far only RX0m2, RX100m7, and ZV-1 are compatible with that app. This is how they plan to match Cannon’s IBIS, it won’t be as good but at least it won’t be “warpy”. Also, the slight crop will be used to achieve this. 15+ Stops of dynamic range. C4K in addition to UHD will be available. Overall this camera is similar to the A7R4 tweaked in the same way as ZV-1 with similar specs to the FX9, but with a 12MP sensor. Like I said before there is a slight crop. Nothing seems extraordinary on paper except that EVF, but realistically there is no 4K60 10-bit internal 600Mbit camera on the market that can record unlimited video without overheating, with great autofocus and no fan." 4k60p internal with new AF and a flippy screen. (Not) Exceeding expectations. Actually I felt more or less this was what the a7s3 was going to be all along since Sony wasn't going to trounce the FX9 with a $3500 body. Maybe, met expectations? Chris
  17. You can report it as spam to YT.
  18. Seems like we get these phony footage clickbait posts with every major camera release. Will probably see the same Christmas lights in their a7s3 video next week. lOL! Chris
  19. So true, pick the system that fits your needs/workflow the best, and work around the warts. There's no perfect camera. Cheers Chris
  20. Doesn't Sony claim all their cameras have 15 stops? At best the improvement over the current cameras will be marginal or none, just like every other new sensor they've released in the last couple years. We'll see once actual specs are really known, but every rumor slowly lets a little wind out of the a7s3's sail. If today's rumors pan out, the comments on SAR are going to be wildly entertaining when the camera is released. Chris
  21. I'd search youtube for green screen lighting tips. As Mark mentioned, it needs to be well lit and even with no wrinkles. Plus there needs to be some distance between you and the screen, otherwise the edges around you don't key out very easily. A lot of the issues people have are from inadequate lighting and standing too close to the green. Good luck. Chris
  22. I like the EOS R, HD has very little rolling shutter, its just a bit soft. Nice job on the sequence. Chris
  23. I guess I should have made it clear, I'm not speaking specifically to that video, just the R5/R6 comments in general. From all the early review footage and what's surfaced in the last few days, motion looks great IMO. Same for colors and detail. DR doesn't look any worse than the a73, yet I'm seeing comments about that too. Until we get side-by-sides its all conjecture. As always YMMV. Chris
  24. 8k handheld samples from the same person that posted the woman on the beach at 120fps. I'm curious - to the people that say the footage looks bad - what are you shooting with? IMO motion and color are fabulous with lots of detail. I've gotten so used to Sony's motion from shooting it the last few years, seeing Canon's just looks so much better IMO - I hate to say it because its subjective bullshit (like calling something organic), but it looks "more filmic" haha. All of the daylight clips are really clean and the flame shot at 6400 doesn't look super noisy either. Cheers Chris
  25. The R6 performance looks really good, HD 120fps looks nice, 4k60p and IBIS look fantastic. The R5 that shot the Dpreview video looks really good too. Chris
