Not sure what what the st cap live sd options do, to be honest when I have tried them they don't seem to do anything. Although otto has referenced them in his doc as st cap dp ??

Easiest way to get video standby is to do a st key click right.

If you want to save the video preferences this way you will need to do a sleep 1 between the key presses, any quicker and it doesn't work all the time.  Be careful though as some of the settings do not get saved this way.

On the NX1 I use prefman save.  This causes a reboot but saves all the settings.  With going into preview and back out it doesn't save such settings as PAL or NTSC.
Unfortunately the prefman save doesn't work on the NX500 (the save works but it doesn't do a reboot and update the menu)

Just had a little play and you are better off using the following for the NX500 to save prefman changes, you still have the issue where some settings don't get saved but you don't need the sleep in between commands.  This goes into playback and then back out as movie standby doesn't save the settings, in fact it resets a lot of the movie related ones.

IC, thank you that makes sense.

Do you know what the command "st cap live sd dump [1-5]" does? from what I understand doesn't ML get RAW video by dumping the live view data to the SD card? I could be completely wrong about that thought.

EDIT: @hirsti, do you know what the command is to turn on video standby mode? I am curious to know if putting the NX1 in video stby will save the video the setting mile prefman save does.

Yeah I was wondering about that myself.

I am also curious about the following commands as well

    • startfisheye
    • stopfisheye
    • setpath 0 - 2(0:OTF/1:IPCout/2:RawOut/3:Ldc Out/4:120FPS OTF/5:120FPS IPC out
    • stremmode [0 – 14]
    • sensorframerate 240
    • outputframerate 240
    • dataframerate 240

Hopefully I will have some time to play around with it this sunday.

They are all in the st cap live commands tree which are changes to the live view screen (EVF or LCD) and don't effect capture to SD card.

People asked about possibility to switch between EVF and LCD during video (apparently not working on NX1). Since I have NX500 I cannot really switch anything but what is described here works as described :)

    st app bb [lcd|evf|tv][on|off|osd|video]

For example, to show only clean video on back LCD: st app bb lcd video

To show only OSD (without video): st app bb lcd osd

To turn it off completely: st app bb lcd off

To show everything as normal: st app bb lcd on

Now, someone with NX1 could try and report back if these things work and if this can solve the problem of switching the LCD/EVF during video.

    https://github.com/ottokiksmaler/nx500_nx1_modding/blob/master/Control_LCD_EVF.md

    ok,

If you go into movie preview or record a movie on the NX1 the video and osd are locked to the LCD or EVF that you were on when you entered the mode.

With this you can turn on and off video, osd, all but if you try to turn on the other non used mode it will not work

For example if I go into video standby on the LCD

st app bb lcd video - gives only video on the LCD
st app bb lcd osd - gives only osd on the LCD
st app bb lcd all - gives both video and osd on the LCD

If I now do a st app bb lcd off - this switches off the LCD but the EVF isn't enabled.

If I now do a st app bb evf on - this switches the LCD back on not the EVF

in fact it will not change anything on the EVF unless I take it out of standby and manually switch to the EVF by pressing the EVF button (which is diabled in standby and recording)
once it is pointing to the EVF then all the commands you send it be they EVF or LCD then take effect on the EVF.

Did a short 1 min test with 160 mbit. Camera was very responsive this time. The macroblocking I remember is essentially gone, but the biggest improvement actually seems to be in motion cadence. No tearing or anything even with a manual non-stabilized lens.

Has anybody done any longer stress tests?

I'm thinking of shooting a short film (just a personal project) with this hack tomorrow... but I'm worried about general stability and somehow bricking the camera, running it hacked for two long days. Any advice?

I have run for 30 mins @ 160 mbit with no problems

PS. I have high hopes for ext4 since it is a native Linux format whereas exfat is Microsoft and may well be implemented as a fuse filesystem which performs much much worse.

    Hi.

If I format the card as ext4 the camera reports it cannot read the card format.

I have formatted back to exFat with an allocation unit size of 4096 which seems to be more stable for 200Mbits/sec, I haven't had any failures for clips less than 1 min but occasionally it will fail over 1 min.

  7. I am a little confused, I did a recording at 160Mbits/sec, it shows in the info from Medianfo as being 160 Mbps, however if I run that MP4 through the Samsung converter the resulting file shows it as being 440 Mbps, why is this anyone?  Is it because you are going from H265 to H264

Hirsti, you mean 160 and 200 megabits, right, no megabytes?

My Samsung 50MB/s card at 200Mb/s goes on for about 40 seconds to 1 minute. With dis it ended after 5 seconds once, but usually no less than 30sec. UHD 25p that is.

Sorry, I mean the options in the nx1-pba.sh file
    160Mbits/sec and 200Mbits/sec

I am running with DIS off and a Manual Focus lens.

I have been testing a bit more and noticed that if I run at 200Mbits/sec after a battery removal it will be pretty consistant, however if I have been using the camera for a while then it does crash out after about 6 secs.  I have only recorded clips under 1 minute.

I have reverted both cards back to 160Mbits/sec, I have just recorded a 25 minute PAL 4096x2160@24fps with no issues.

  9. I have 2 SD cards that I have tested on, a Sandisk 280 MB/s and a Lexar 2000x 300 MB/s
On the sandisk it is reliable setting the bitrate @ 160 MB/s, if you step up to 200 it will fail after about 10 seconds.
On the Lexar it is reliable setting the bitrate @ 200 MB/s, if you step above this then it fails.

Ok, someone asked if you could change between NTSC and PAL and also change vid mode and shutter speed.

They requested an option to switch between NTSC/4K@25fps/1/50 shutter and PAL/1080@120fps/1/250 shutter speed with DIS disabled.

So for NTSC/4K@25fps/1/50 shutter enter the following into a corresponding key .sh file:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    prefman set 0 0x00000260 l 1
    prefman set 0 0x00000330 l 1
    prefman set 0 0x00000310 l 91
    prefman save
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and for PAL/1080@120fps/1/250 shutter speed with DIS disabled enter the following into a corresponding .sh file

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    prefman set 0 0x00000260 l 0
    prefman set 0 0x000006a4 l 0
    prefman set 0 0x00000330 l 4
    prefman set 0 0x00000310 l 128
    prefman save
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

0x00000260 is APPPREF_VIDEO_OUT and sets the TV Output, 0 is PAL and 1 is NTSC
0x00000330 is APPPREF_MOV_SIZE and sets the Movie Size dependent on the TV output, so in PAL mode 1 is UHD@25fps and in NTSC mode 4 is 1080@120fps
0x000006a4 is APPPREF_MOV_DIS and sest DIS on or off, 0 is off and 1 is on
0x00000310 is APPPREF_SHUTTER_SPEED_INDEX and sets the shutter speed 91 is 1/50th and 128 is 1/250th

I have tested this on the NX1 and it works ok.  This doesn't currently work on the NX500, it looks like one of the options is missing on the NX500 when it does a prefman save and as such it does not refresh the menu's

There is now a workaround for NX500 users, by simulating going to preview and back it updates the menu.

This can also be used on the NX1 which will allow for further instructions to be done after the menu refresh, like text on the screen.

Yes you should be able to put it into video standby, one of the St commands works, I can't remember off the top of my head, will look it up.

Tested this and it doesn't work, anything after the prefman save doesn't get executed.

I think what happens is that the prefman save on the NX1 causes the camera to crash/reboot which causes an update of the menu system.
This means that once you have done the prefman save then that is the end of the effected changes you can make.
You could however set the on screen text and put a sleep in then do the changes ending in a prefman save.  The only problem is the text will only stay on the screen until the reboot happens.

What would happen if we set a value, that is not supported? Like for movie mode, where you have set it to 0 (4k) or 4 (120p), but instead set it to for example 8, which just doesn't mean anything? If it is ok, we could find some hidden options.

If you set an invalid option it does not change and stays its current value. Some settings can be set this way whilst not in the menu, like e-shutter on non nx lenses

This is excellent. Thank you so much this is what we were talking about. any luck with changing the shutter speed as well? From what I understand the st command can do this.

Yes you can use the same method.

For shutter speed the offset is 0x00000310 on the NX1 which is "0x00000310    0004    APPPREF_SHUTTER_SPEED_INDEX"
so to set the shutter speed to 1/100th you type the following:

    prefman set 0 0x00000310 l 107
    prefman save

the 107 value was obtained by manually setting the shutter speed and then doing a

    prefman get 0 0x00000310 l

I have tested it and it works.

    RAWQUALITY_LOSSY (0x720001)

    RAW_PACK_PACK (0x710000) - Default on NX1
    RAW_PACK_UNPACK (0x710001)

    RAW_BIT_14BIT (0x700000) - Default on NX1
    RAW_BIT_12BIT (0x700001)

Simple "hack" to enable silent shooting in single mode (not CH/CN):

    [root@drime5 ~]£ st cap capdtm getusr 117
    UserData is ADJUSTSHUTTERTYPE_MECHA (0x750000)
    [root@drime5 ~]£ st cap capdtm setusr 117 0x00750001
    UserData is set
    [root@drime5 ~]£ st cap capdtm getusr 117
    UserData is ADJUSTSHUTTERTYPE_ROLLING (0x750001)

ROLLING is full electronic shutter :)

Now, why Samsung did not enable this in the menu I have no idea... It's fully working in full resolution JPEGs and SRW files.

I have not time to test whether image quality suffers, but it looks OK to me :)

Could someone check if it works with NX1 as well?

    Cheers and have fun,

    Otto

    Otto,

It doesn't work on the NX1 as there is no usr 117, the list only goes upto 114.

There is no variable in the complete list for ADJUSTSHUTTERTYPE_

Here is the list from the NX1 from a st cap capdtm getusr

Hey Otto, I was looking through your github profile and I saw that there were options for 98fps in 4k, 1080 and 720 (also 1080p240). Can you try enabling the 98fps? And also what is the 98? Not even a multiple of anything proper.

If you look at the github closely it isn't 98fps it is 23.98fps options.

This is an amazing advancement for 1-person shooters. Any chance it could work via wifi and the remote app?

If you use the remote app SDK that is referred to on this page you could write a piece of code in visual studio to do the same thing but remotely.  You just need the SDK and some experience in visual studio

    Maybe, we will see.

Couple of others (including Chant) have asked this  ( http://nxcameraportal.cloudapp.net/SDK/SDKTerms ) and it seems that it is first answer from Samsung we have (it took them at least 4 weeks). There is quite detailed form to fill in... so I hope it is not "just" sdk to build pc app.

Hi, this looks like the form I filled out for the SDK for the remote control of the NX1 and not a SDK for the actual camera itself.  I received the SDK which is documentation and sample programs in Visual Studio, this just contains commands for creating apps that you can connect to the NX1 remotely and control basic functions.  It doesn't contain anything different to what Samsung's remote studio offers.
