  1. @Andrew Reid Hi mate, is the autofocus at 120fps of the RX100IV & RX100V really as bad as this forum member has described? In your review of the RX100IV you mentioned "The great thing about 120fps is you can do a very quick AF lock onto a moving subject then hit record straight away". Thanks, Joel.

Thanks @Andrew Reid your advice is appreciated Most of what you and others had mentioned i'd already learnt from regularly reading your posts and forum members feedback from the forums over this last year or so, i've learnt so much in a short space of time and it's been invaluable really. Gonna stick with my plan, save up the pennies and run with the Sony A7s in crop mode and eventually get a speedbooster when the budget allows. Haha you are like the 'Annoying Orange' mate! I'l be sure to be extra specific next time, keep the peace yeww Thanks

  4. Thanks @fuzzynormal great advice mate cheers. I agree the gear isn't always important, it's what you do with what you have. I really dig the LUMIX M4/3 cams, the GX7 is a beast of a little camera. I owned a G7 with speedbooster and it got some awesome results, achieved even better results with the G85, both cheap cams and clients have been really satisfied with the results. That said however the super 35mm look is perfect for commercial/corporate shoots but I want a full frame for weddings/fashion etc. I'm gonna wait it out and keep saving the pennies for an A7s, but plenty great suggestions from everyone so in the meantime I will keep an eye out for some used bargains for sure!   6. Hey @mercer the previous A6300 1080p is soft, aliasing and rolling shutter arent great at all either. I see the A6300 as a great 4K and low light performer at a fraction of the price of the A7sii however it's HD is mediocre, not sure if the updated A6500 fixed these issues either... I will have to look into this. Either way the A6500 will cost about $1800-$2000 and i'd still need to buy a focal reducer. Too expensive. Thanks everyone who has made suggestions but looks like original A7s is unbeaten in terms of HD image quality and price for a full frame camera. I'l wait for a price drop

  8. Hey Geoff, cheers for the suggestion, already considered, but a used D750 nearly costs as much as a new A7s here in Australia. Hoping to find something cheaper, closer to the $1000 price point if a camera even exists at this price... Agreed about the 1080p output. There's such good value even in the cheapest cam's like the Panasonic G7/G85 packed full of killer features with a beautiful 4K image, and once downscaled to 1080 look amazing... the menus, image stabilisation, focus peaking, ease of use, everything is unreal in these cams. Yet camera companies still can't produce an entry level camera with decent 1080 50/60p slow-mo at a reasonable price point despite most people delivering their content in 1080. I do wonder how long will it take for full frame cameras to become affordable? I can't do camcorders mate, so might have to hang out for the next release of the A7s iii series and wait for the A7s to drop in price. Thanks
  9. So talking Full Frame cameras only or APSC with focal reducer. Been on the lookout for sometime now for an affordable option but no luck. - Full Frame (or APSC with focal reducer) - Great 1080 50/60p slowmo - Focus peaking For my needs i've narrowed it down to the awesome and still very capable Sony A7s however it is still too expensive (over $2000 in Australia dollar currency). In my opinion at it's price point it produces one of the nicest 1080p images and still class leading in light gathering capabilities, the 1080 50/60p in full frame mode is a tad soft but still very good. In APSC mode the 1080 50/60p is even better, very clean, almost perfect! I'm not fussed at all over specific features like articulating screens, colour science, 4K, EVF, camera menus etc. I honestly couldn't care less about them things in a camera, i'm simply on the hunt for a camera that doesn't throw away vital information from its image when shooting at a higher frame rate like most cameras do. For the work I do I will be shooting 50p exclusively, rarely 25p. Is there anything affordable out there or on its way to the market?

  11. Price could be lower for sure mate however you have discounted one major feature... HFR. There isn't many cameras or any for that matter that can perform such high frame rates at this price. This camera obviously apeals to the compact camera market but it's not as if people are buying this camera and getting HFR as a bonus, this camera is for the HFR market, many shooters wanting HFR will happily pay this premium, especially with the increased shooting time now in the mark v. As @Andrew Reid this camera shoots perfect 120fps with minimal rolling shutter and aliasing. And the the 240fps is very usable, nobody is buying this cam for the 480/960 it's rubbish, but the 120/240 are butter! For the price of a mark v in Australia which is roughly $1300-$1400 I can easily get 3 lumix G7's, however I will still be buying this cam as there is nothing out there that can do usable 240fps, downsampked 4K with no pixel binning and 24fps raw photos.... is this not astounding? I think this camera is a steal, other companies will finally jump on ship and this is going to raise the standard of HFR in cheap compacts and MFT's and push future pricing to be more competitive and affordable. Panasonic also obviously have lots in the pipeline like the LX15, won't be long until 120fps will be standard for most of their cams. I'm glad sony pushed the limits with HFR in this market, and until Panasonic release an LXseries with 240fps Sony can have every single one of my hard earned pennies ?

  13. Hey @jonpais right on there, I'm hoping this won't be too big an issue with this Rokinon lens, it has great reviews, I guess only time will tell once I get out in the field and shoot some more with it against bright light. Cheers for the link to your blog mate.

I planned to use my G7 and Metabones Speedbooster XL with the Tokina 11-16 f2.8 however I have found a cheaper and lighter lens combo that still allows me to achieve decent low light performance and won't place any long term stress on the gimbal motors with a heavy load! There is no doubt the Crane can handle these moderately heavy loads, but this is a killer little combo for a gimbal of this size or smaller. The lens I ordered was the Rokinon/Samyang 12mm F2.0 lens MFT mount. I've found it well constructed, very lightweight at just 270g and has little to no distortion or chroma, also takes filters. The lens has decent reviews, and at $300usd (often less) and given its weight I much prefer it over the heavier and bulkier Panasonic 12-35 f2.8, Tokina 11-16 f2.8 or Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 lenses with a speedbooster. There's a tiny bit of footage in this promotional video above that I shot in Sydney recently, most at night. This was the first and only time I have used the Crane, I didnt get a chance to balance the gimbal very well or calibrate it. The footage is noticeably not perfect but i'm super impressed on it's performance straight out of the box first use, i'm sure them little bumps in the footage will be smoothed out once I calibrate it and balance carefully next time. Cannot wait to fine tune this thing and get some heavy testing shooting some weddings next month, seems like it will be the perfect low light lens/gimbal combo for weddings.
  15. @Thpriest Hey mate I havent pushed the ISO past 1600, haven't needed to yet, I mostly shoot with the Metabones Speedbooster XL .64 and Sigma 18-35 f1.8 and that combo often keeps me at ISO 1600 or lower, 3200 rarely. Despite this, I occasionally have issues maintaining accurate exposure and colour with the G7 too, however I'm a pretty inexperienced videographer. To light the dance floor and cake cutting I used a small Metz Mecalight 320 on a light stand, the G7 also falls apart if pushed past ISO 1600 in low light scenes like this. Definitely rather have a speedbooster and portable lighting solution than push this cam to ISO 3200. Cheers for the feedback mate ?

  18. Some footage using the Panasonic G7 on a Corporate video shoot, first crack at the 'white background look'. It's pretty hard achieving a consistent white background look and getting skin tones right in camera, not as easy as I first thought it would be. I had no background in lighting a studio set let alone shooting video so it's not perfect, but with all the great knowledge and feedback from everyone on this forum I've learnt so much and managed to pull it off, stoked! Loving the Panasonic G7, at sub $500 it's still killer value! Hope to see more samples of peoples work on this forum, looking forward to seeing some G7 footage from Panasonic Ambassador @andy lee from his feature films when released.

  21. Anyone have a favourite lens that performs as amazing as the Sigma 18-35 1.8ART for around the same budget or cheaper? Rented the Rokinon/Samyang 35/50/85 T1.5 primes and found their performance mediocre compared to this lens. Would love to get people's feedback, whether it be primes or zooms.... Sigma ART primes compared to the Samyang/Rokinon?

  23. Thank You! Lenses used were the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC ART, Canon 70-200f/2.8L IS II USM and Metabones Speedbooster XL. Shot in 4K, downscaled to 1080p on a 1080p timeline in Premiere Pro.
  24. I owned both the G7 & GH4 and recently managed to use both cams on a wedding shoot before selling the GH4, I saw no reason to keep it. The G7 wins, I'm talking picture quality not features, the GH4 has loads of great features and should not be discounted however, all depends on what type of media you shoot. Just get a G7 already if you are considering it, for $500 or less you can't go wrong, its dope. Would make a great B-cam to the A6300 or similiar. Here is the wedding I shot with both cams, all night footage at the very end shot with the g7, not the GH4 which suffers by 1 1/2 stops.
  25. The Metabones Speedbooster XL is dope! I shoot with the G7, the XL Canon mount and Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 and the results are killer for what I need. Example...
