  1. I get the company being liable for not requiring the forklift driver to have a certification (i believe Home depot offers them, and they are easy to get because driving a forklift is fucking simple). But the operation of a forklift does not require you to stand on top of an 8 foot pallet. There's idiocy on both company and worker. This is why every major factory I install my company's systems for requires me to sit through 30 minutes of the most brain numbingly simple safety videos before working.

On discrimination, who knows? This is a piece to promote the formation of their union with only one side's narrative, how unbiased do you think it is?

To clarify, the company is liable and their safety supervisor (if there is one) should be fired. There's a reason supervisors act like dictators. It's because workers are in general idiots of the first rate when it comes to personal safety.

  2. NX1 4k is pretty damn good according to people much less biased (I own it) and much more experienced than me. Samsung has been very good about timely firmware updates and should hopefully continue that into the future with added features, similar to how the GH4 has a new log mode. That 16-50 S lens is usually $1200 alone so that seems like a very good deal. The color and the quality of the 4k is definitely the camera's best feature.

It does however use h265 encoding that hasn't been integrated by most editing programs, and you'll have to use a converter like Rocky Mountains converter to use the footage. I can't even view the clips in VLC without it hanging up. So, added time until the h265 catches on. The camera has a few bugs left in it, but like I said Samsung has thus far been very good with firmware--the only firmware problem being it erases all your settings every time you update it. The lens selection past the 16-50 S is pretty limited. There were rumors that lenses would be revealed late 2015 or so. But just rumors so far. I do wish the OLED screen on it could pivot to view from the front instead of just up and down. Using LUTs or FilmConvert, there haven't been any profiles or lut packs for the NX1 yet if that matters.

  3. hmm I downloaded it on july 9. but mine was an upgrade from a previous version, not sure if that had anything to do with it.

honestly I think it's worth waiting for. neat video is magic.

  4. Best part about the upgrade is it removed win 7 (home) RAM limit (16gb), so now I can use the 32gb my cpu supports and After Effects ram preview will hopefully be better. I just wish windows 10 display scaling was better. At 100% the icons are tiny, and at 125 (the next setting) everything is huge. Ideally it'd be able to do something between those. I've only had maybe 30 mins with it. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Or maybe if/when I upgrade my monitor to 4k the 125% and up will work.

  5. of course get it now or a sufficient time before birth, so he'd learn the ins and outs of the camera shooting, cards, transcoding, menus, picture profiles and be able to shoot before, during and after the event properly.

There are no rumors of a new NX1 successor soon it's a new camera and is still getting fixed by firmware updates (rumors are rumors = nothing real). Never make the mistake of waiting for the next best thing as there will always be a next big thing and you'll just keep on waiting, forever. Even if a new NX1 is released it will not make your NX1 suddenly stop working.

Thank you for the advice. I definitely do chase the next great thing haha

  6. Hmm, can I get an opinion? So my brother is having his first kid and wants a camera. The kid is due in November and my mom and I will be going half in on one for him for the baby shower. He's used my nx1 and loves it, so I've thought of getting him one.

So the question is do I bite on the 200 off on the nx1 by tomorrow or do I wait until the last minute (maybe the car ride to the hospital?)  for the chance that an even better camera is released or that the price is reduced. The nice thing is with an nx camera I could share my 16-50 lens with him for trips and get him a cheap nx prime for the inevitable 1000+ baby pics on Facebook. The draw back is the current h265 lack of support and the conversion from srw to dng to see the thumbnail outside of light room.

Are there any shows before November that a new camera might be revealed at? Or rumors of a new Samsung body? Trying to see if it is worth waiting. 1299 is fine price by me but cameras get better all the time and my brother will likely not upgrade the body for a long long while.

  7. Does anyone else who updated to this firmware now have a problem between what the LCD/EVF shows and actual exposure? My camera now doesn't show the LCD getting lighter or darker when increasing/decreasing iso, aperture, or shutter speed. The meter will move, but that's it. The overexposure zebras do not change as exposure settings do. So the LCD will show a perfectly exposed image and then the resulting picture will be drastically different. The preview button on the front doesn't show the difference either.

However, in video preview mode (right on the nav wheel) it does show a properly representative image on either LCD or EVF with overexposure guides changing as the settings are changed.

I've been shooting mostly video. I have no idea how long it's been like this.

  8. I wonder if they'll debut any new lenses? I love my 16-50 S, but I backpack and the camera+lens can get pretty heavy at altitude. I'd love a lighter, wide prime from samsung but it looks like they're missing a manual focus toggle as well as OIS.

Also, not sure if it's hardware or software but every so often the camera has a fit and continuously says "lens disconnected" then "lens connected". Other than that, I love the thing and it was worth the higher price I paid.

  9. I just hope the new firmware can address the battery waste of the interval capture setting. The screen stays on solely to countdown to the next picture...and if doing a long exposure it'll add a popup saying "keep the camera steady" the entire duration that is unnecessary and wasteful. If I had the option to completely shut off the display in a long timelapse I think I'd save a decent amount of power. I tried switching it just to viewfinder and it always reverts.

  10. Not to derail this, but regarding EVF/display, I'm trying to do a night lapse of the stars over the weekend in the desert so I want to completely turn off the display to save battery. So i turned quickview off, auto display off to 30 secs (lowest) and power save to 1 min (lowest). Then I hit the EVF button to switch from display to viewfinder only. However, after all that,  when I actually start the interval capture (shutter 20 secs, 5 sec interval to test) it turns on the display for a popup saying "capturing, keep camera steady" on every shot, then it keeps turning on the display in full color to show the interval countdown. Is there any way to do what I want it to? It's kind of a waste of battery the way it is.

  11. 1) Agree, I think to further prevent this the simplest solution is to up the bitrate. Maybe a double 150mb/s mode (Ultra Pro) that has a warning when you turn it on that if you don't have a fast enough card you will get dropped frames.

    2) yup

    3) This is the fault of the software your using, not the camera. The 4K image is flawless in terms in detail.

    4) Significantly agree. I've been using the camera for doc work and recording audio externally instead of in the camera.

    5) I agree, when you stop recording it should stay in movie standby mode.

    6) I have not encountered this issue. Is it repeatable in your camera? What settings does it reset?

Not the guy you replied to, but yeah #6 happens to me as well. I have a custom mode set to default to iso 100, make adjustments to settings, take a pic/vid, review it, go back and it's at 100 again along with the shutter setting. Not the worst thing ever but kind of annoying.

  12. I haven't seen any videos taken with the new firmware, but since they went though the trouble improving all these things for video, was is so hard to implement a very high bitrate (80Mbit/sec) FHD?

Not sure, maybe the drop from 40 to 18 (for 30fps) is for when people shoot 120fps. Also good to remember this is h265, so (if I'm not misinformed by wikipedia) you'd double it for the equivalent quality at h264. So 1080 at 40 mbits/s would be ~80 in h264, right?

  13. I see it recommended a lot, and I don't know if it's just me, but whenever I try to use Wondershare to transcode NX1 4K it fails. Every single time regardless of settings, but it will work at 1080 and below. I'm on PC. I've seen countless videos of it working on Mac so maybe it's just PC or specifically mine. Also, it does not use my nvidia 700 series gpu for acceleration. I've been using free rocky mountain converter which has about the simplest interface possible and seems to work faster than handbrake and samsung's converter.
