DBounce got a reaction from Marco Tecno in Sony has gone internal-4K crazy: A7RII, RX1004, RX10II
I can see you love fulI frame, but is not S35 the defacto standard in film? And the Samsung sensor size is aps-c/s35. Also the Samsung is 6k down-sampled to 4k. The new model is rumored to have better DR, and 60fps 4k. With the h.265 HEVC this should be feasible. I would not be too sure that no one will cross shop the Samsung and the Sony.

4k content will drive sales of 4k TVs, monitors, mobile devices. Do Sony, Samsung and Panasonic make any of this hardware? If so it makes perfect sense to drive sales by providing content creators with affordable ways to produce content.
    Elementary my dear Watson.

For the record I don't think Sony has gone 4k crazy. I think that having 4k in all the new cameras is perfectly sane. The question is, why in 2015 are other manufacturers still charging top dollar for cameras that can only do 1080p? Now thats crazy.
If there is anything groundbreaking about Sony's new lineup it's simply this... it's a clear message that any camera released from this point on, sans 4k will be a certain failure.
To all the naysayers who said 4k isn't necessary... well at least you have the option to record it 1080p if you so choose.
Now here's hoping that A7Rii turns out to be as great as we all want. Honestly, while the crazy low light performance of the A7S is impressive, it's more than most people need. The A7Rii could provide a perfect balance between usable still and video capture. We will soon see how it stacks up.

I think Canon is done. They could produce a killer camera in this space, but choose not to. As a former Canon owner I would love to see them actually do something game changing. But I like many have come to realise Canon have rested on their laurels for too long. Innovation is something they have forgotten how to do... At least at this level of the market.

The new Sony offerings sound great. But I have to admit, I'm a little more excited to see what the new NX1 and A7sii will offer. On the other hand, it's possible that this new a7rii will have all the low light performance that is needed in practical filming. Between Sony and Samsung the old guard's days are numbered.
And hats off to Sony for getting the memo... if my smartphone can do internal 4k, my camera should also. Indeed, no camera sold today should be absent this essential feature.
Soon I will be in the market for new gear, looks like I'll have a lot to choose from.

FS7 looks pretty filmic to me. But having great brushes won't mean you have talent to paint a masterpiece.

And since the first rumor the supposed release date has been the same... the second half of 2015, so there is still time.

I would skip on  such a device for the GH4...  The price vs performance is not there.

DBounce got a reaction from IronFilm in Someone gives you £12.5k ($18,800) to buy filming equipment. What would you do?
FS7 is a more professional form factor for serious use. Being shoulder mount lends well to a mobile shooting style, making a gimbal less necessary.
The Sigma 18-35mm Art Lense is a very sharp piece of glass. So sharp it  can replace a set of primes. This saves both time and money.
Miller Compass - the quality, strenght and smoothness of Miller is well known. It was in fact Miller who invented the fluid head. Their compass series can handle a wide range of cameras from as light as 4.4 lbs to around 20 lbs.
This setup is a serious pro kit on a budget.

DBounce got a reaction from Beritar in A7S no successor at NAB 2015 ?
Yes I do.  Lack of internal 4k is why I passed on the A7S.
GH4 is 4k, so it's not living in the past. Samsung NX1 is 6k down-scaled to 4k and H.265, so it is good for the forseeable future. A7S is priced like 4k, but is only HD. It is the only one of the trio missing this highly sort after feature.
As for comments like blah blah blah is "impossible"... well five years ago all of this was impossible wasn't it?
Mark my words, Sony has the technology to do 4k in the A7Sii. They probably could have done it in the first model.
The bottom line is this, the current A7S is a $4500 camera for anyone that would like to shoot 4k. So this means the A7S really is not priced where Sony planned it to be. Meaning fewer sales. For this reason I'm certain that getting 4k into the successor is a top priority.

You're basically looking at Sony FS7 money for this camera. Granted it's a bit higher resolution, but I'm very much leaning towards the Sony.
I'm guessing the BM will be more difficult to work with. I love the global shutter, but I personally value a higher ISO and built in ND filters more.
And while the BM camera is very cinematic, I feel that it seems all the images are just a bit darker. I think this camera requires well lite subjects
    to give its best.
As for cinematic, the FS7 seems to do a pretty good job at the cinematic look, provided you grade for that look.
