  1. I'd suggest joining the facebook group if you haven't already, the support from Pilotfly and other users there is pretty good: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1115581045135398/
  2. I'm super interested in the answer to this too. If Premiere Pro has finally caught up to a 5-year old Macbook w/ FCP in terms of h264 playback I may have to upgrade to a Skylake CPU.
  3. I have a Pilotfly H1+ that I'm gonna put up on ebay soon, could easily handle and RX100 IV. Only main drawback for me was the battery life (~2 hrs), but I solved that with an external USB battery pack with 12V output for charging in the field if necessary.
  4. Awesome video, I loved how much energy and dynamism you had in every shot. Excellent use of the DJI Ronin-M.
  5. Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
  6. I'm going to a friend's wedding next week and plan to shoot a short video (not in any official capacity). I'd like to get a series of brief B&W shots of the guests, inspired by the fan and crew shots in the RHCP video Snow (well some of them anyways, some are pretty meh). Below is a screenshot of such a shot. Just curious what kind of lighting the experts here would recommend for this type of shot. Hopefully something light and portable I can bring with me :). Looks fairly basic, like any LED video light would probably do it, just not sure how much of a diffuser / softener I'd need. Thanks for any help!
  7. Accidentally posted this in the wrong thread.. here's Brandon Li testing out the PilotFly H2: He's been on the facebook group a bunch getting help resolving some jitters. From his comments there and on Vimeo it sounds like he's got it tuned pretty well now. Not sure how much he needed it though.. that guy has been doing insane handheld shots for years that look smoother than my gimbal shots..
  8. Whoops, sorry just realized I posted this in the wrong thread.. meant to go in the gimbal thread. Just to clarify, he was using the Sony 50mm 1.8 in this video, not the 55mm 1.8 FE. Apologies.

  10. Beautiful video Wolf, very impressive. I quite liked the hyperlapse style.. didn't seem too overdone and you did a good job of it. I'm wondering how much you shot in that style (camera moves / quick pans / lots of slo-mo / etc.) and how much you were able to do in post. I haven't had a lot of AF issues with the A7R2 so far, but my shooting has been a lot less demanding compared to the amount of motion in your shots. What lenses were you using? Ever try the center lock-on AF?
  11. Sounds pretty cool.. but do you expect the gimbal to hold the roll axis perfectly steady while you zoom in/out? If so that seems like a hard problem since the motors will have to be adjusting rapidly to forces acting directly on the camera lens.. unless you have some smooth gear rings attached or something.
  12. Sorry for the dumb question here but what's the max framerate the FS5 can record RAW internally to the SD cards? And what speed of card is required? I don't have an FS5, just curious what the future holds for recording RAW to SD on other prosumer Sony cameras.
  13. DBounce, I'm curious if anyone's done any kind of controlled testing on the motion cadence issues you mention. Obviously this is much harder than comparing Canon color to Sony color, but I'm wondering if there is any kind of visual comparison that can be done to visually highlight these differences. For example, same controlled scene with an object moving at a controlled rate past two cameras set to the same shutter / aperture / ISO-equivalent. Feels like it would be enlightening if we were able to narrow in on the specific visual differences in motion cadence.
  14. I like the example video Ed posted. It's super stylized for sure but there's nothing wrong with stylized for the right occasion.
  15. DPReview gave the A6300 85% & their gold award. Guess overheating isn't a big deal for $1k camera buyers these days. The video image quality comparison is interesting.. A6300 looks over-sharpened vs. the A7R2 but I'd also say it has more detail, even comparing to the A7R2's APS-C mode:
  16. 100+ years isn't long? Seems like a pretty healthy lifespan for any technology that came of age in the 20th century IMO.
  17. http://***URL removed***/interviews/4663212665/interview-with-three-time-oscar-winning-cinematographer-emmanuel-lubezki He sure loves dynamic range. Can't say I disagree. Interesting that he feels film still has superior dynamic range.. my impression was that digital had caught up, at least at the highest level.
  18. The customer service on the H1+ seems pretty decent from what I've read on the Facebook group (various reports of them spending time helping people with their settings, doing remote PC adjustment of the PID settings via the SimpleBGC GUI app). They also post and respond to questions on there.
  19. Here's an autofocus-on-a-gimbal clip from my A7R2 day 1 test on the Pilotfly H1+. Used center lock-on AF. Worked OK but I'm sure someday we'll get Eye-AF while recording.. having phase-detect AF always keeping the eye in focus would be awesome.
  20. Doh, sorry bout that. You could try joining the Pilotfly facebook group, often new user videos get posted there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1115581045135398/
  21. If you want to see more Pilotfly H2 videos check out Yanher Lin's YouTube channel, he 3 up there now (1 A7R2, 2 GH4), probably more on the way. My impression is that he runs the Taiwan side of the Pilotfly business. https://www.youtube.com/user/Yanherlin/videos
  22. I have a Pilotfly H1+ (which we should be seeing on sale used now that the H2 is out) and it's decent.. weight and portability are good, stabilization is good. Getting it balanced is slow and requires a mini allen wrench though. The other big downside is battery life, which not great (1.5 - 2 hrs), but more importantly the battery is built-in (same on the H2). I bought an external USB battery pack with 12V output so I could charge it in the field (as well as use it for charging my camera and phone), but the DS1's 18650 type 2600 mAh batteries are much more convenient.
  23. Check out these threads:
  24. Colors and dynamic range look great.. ML is still such awesome quality compared to the compressed codecs on these consumer cams. A few shots seemed a bit dark but other than that looked very well exposed. I assume you uprezed to 4K to get the better YouTube compression? Resolution and detail really holds up well.
  25. Is this true while recording video? The only example I've seen on YouTube (which I can't seem to find right now) was super slow to AF while recording video.
