  1. Don't rely on manufacturers published write speeds for video. Data transfer to a computer or device is not the same as uninterrupted data streams for recording video real time without frame drops ( hence the need for the  V rating). Always test it on your camera.....

Portability, reliability, size, not risk of damaging cables or ports, no risk of a cable snagging on your thumb as you reach to focus. Just a few reasons why many people might want to use card internally.

SSD's are hardly big so is portability really an issue? , reliability? - any experience of SSD vs CFAST vs SDXC failures with this camera? Size ( ee first point), Cables and ports can be protected by clamps if it's in a cage.

I know how to correctly expose v-log-l (and s-log), but thanks for the condescension. As many already know the GH5s has a problem with its sensor/software and this has been debated in numerous articles and videos for a long time. Google is your friend.

It then comes down to the user’s and the clients tolerance for this kind of image issue. Chacun son goût.

If you know how to expose V-LOG and S-LOG 'correctly' how did you set it on your test video?. What IRE value on your scopes is the horizontal light in the test scenes?

According to the specs, even V90 cards should not be able to record the highest resolution/bit rates. We use the T5 1TB disks and have not had any trouble recording to them. Best of luck!

It's a 'no brainer' - why waste your money on very expensive internal cards when there is a faster, larger capacity and vastly cheaper external solution.

Yes it’s an inherent problem with the body and v-log-l.

What exposure method are you using ? It would appear that exposing more and then bringing down the exposure in post to get the 'dark look' would be a possible solution. Noise in the shadows is simply tonal information beyond the usable DR of the camera and not an inherent camera issue.

V-log-L on GH5 and Gh5s is known to exhibit severe noise in shadows even at base iso. Even when properly exposed and with the highest bitrate. It’s one of the main reasons I’m holding my breath for the S1.

Huh?  All cameras have noise in the shadows if they are underexposed and lifted in post. It's not a function of V-LOG or any picture profile but the limits of the sensor. The S1 'may' have more DR but you will still hit noise in the shadows at some point if they are beyond the DR of the sensor.

I'm not sure if there actually is any smart adapters from EF to MFT that aren't also focal reducers?

The solution would be to buy the very cheapest smart focal reducer one and take the glass out of it.

Metabones and Viltrox make non focal reducer EF-MFT smart adapters. Removing the optics from a focal reducer adapter won't work as they are different thicknesses.

why there is a shadow noise in the black areas?

    Plenty of possible reasons;

The footage is underexposed, the contrast range of the scene exceeds that DR of the camera, the shadows have been pushed too far in post, it's shot in RAW with no NR applied.

No, I can't test in the store these heads unfortunately

I reckon the Flowtech is a 'no-brainer' for a set of legs though as they are light and stiff with all the adjustability you will need for uneven ground. Without the head they should go in hold luggage. I doubt you can go wrong with the GH06 either as it's significantly cheaper than the FSB 4 and lighter to boot. Also what's your budget as this may be all irrelevant?

  10. Long slow pans with a long lens require the very best head and legs so you will have to compromise on size and weight or just stick to fast pans and static shots which can be done on any fluid or friction head and legs. I'd still say Flowtech + GH06 are going to be hard to beat at their price range  - can you go t a store and try them?

I want a fluid head, with a tripod usable also in not flat surfaces, and not to heavy to let me transport it in the luggage. But I dint want to buy another product in 2 years, so the product have to be durable with a normal use. For example I am extremely happy with my photographic gitzo tripod, over many Manfrotto bought in the past.

But what kind of shots are you going to be doing? - long slow pans with a long lens? fast pans following action? static locked off shots?

the same that I used only different capacity. This is one thing I don't understand why people keep complaining about how expensive media this camera use. You can use dirt cheap card or cheap ssd. why the hate?

I have C-Fast and V90 cards but I find it easier  just to plug in a 1TB SSD . This is an often overlooked factor when comparing it say to the GH5s which needs V60 and probably to be sure V90 which adds a considerable cost to the camera.

What old canon camera models would you recommend to someone who doesn’t yet have a camera body but has a 70-200mm lens?

Are there any that wouldn’t break the bank? Under $500 if possible. Also, is a newer APSC sensor worth it if it’s newer than the old full frame body?

edit: Someone is giving me a Canon T6i. When I save up enough money for those cameras you all mentioned I know that the 6D or the 5Dii are the two obvious choices. Thanks to everyone who answered!

Are you wanting to shoot video or stills ( or both?)  Is the 70-200 a native Canon (white lens) and what version is it - F2.8 or F4  with or without IS?

I am sure RAW is better but the prores looks dang good. Hard to believe the output you get for 1000 bucks.

I did some brief tests of RAW vs ProRes when I first got my P4k and apart from the RAW having more noise I couldn't see a whole lot of difference and certainly resolution didn't look obviously better in RAW.

  15. The FSB is OK but it's not amazingly smooth and according to one direct comparison

it's not as smooth as the GH06 and the GH06 is a lot cheaper but as I said earlier you should always test a head before you buy it. The GH06 is a 75mm fitting so will fit the flowtech as this is an industry standard interface.

Wowzer!!! Is that the Leica Look I’ve heard so much about?

It's the Voigtlander look........ If you want the Leica look at 40mm get the Summicron F2  that came with the CL camera.

If you buy the Ace kit, avoid the Aluminium legs.what don't you check the Flowtech legs?

Difficult to recommend any legs but the  Flowtech for a 75mm bowl. As stiff as carbon twin tube designs but more compact and once you have used the top leg lock system you will never go back.
