  1. Nothing...except that devious facebook message. And the crime itself. But no, you're right, there's nothing at all to indicate that. Con artists/sociopaths commit their crimes for the thrill, not money. And compulsive liars, con artists, sociopaths, serial killers will say/do anything to remove suspicion from themselves. You know what one of the Hillside Stranglers did when his wife got suspicious of him? He pretended to have cancer. He didn't just say he had cancer, he would have his wife drop him off at the hospital, go in without her, wander around for 8 hours, steal medications and medical forms and forge documents. He did this for over a year. The guy the movie "I Love You Philip Morris" is based on successfully faked dying of AIDS to escape from prison. You guys can believe and trust Ebrahim, or whoever is posing as him if you want, but I don't.
  2. Exactly this. Sociopaths are master manipulators and will say anything. That taunting message to one of the victims stands in stark contrast to the "apology". Many serial killers had families and/or were respected in their communities: Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Gary Ridgeway, Dennis Rader, The Hillside Stranglers, etc. The insanity defense never works for them because they know the difference between right and wrong, and they don't care. They don't feel empathy for other people. They manipulate and use people. Con artists and compulsive liars share many personality traits with serial killers.
  3. Looking for some 4k and 1080 GH4 footage, not from an external recorder, just the regular MOV or MP4, please.
  4. So, I finally decided to buy FilmConvert. I'm loving it so far.
  5. Any composers lurking around here? I need a score for a 5 minute short...for free. Pretty please, with sugar on top?
  6. It's amazing how sharp and clean modern Super 8 looks, but I'm much more interested in this kind of feeling. I wonder if they had to add more grain and dirt to make this movie shot in 2009 look old and nostalgic (romantic). Exactly.
  7. Thanks. That's the best comment I've gotten on the film.
  8. Thanks. Yeah, I'm loving my Pocket cam. I might have posted this on the board somewhere, but this is the alternate Super 8 footage to my short film "The Ballad of Crazy Pete". It was conceived as a Super 8 short, but one roll didn't turn out, and I couldn't get the digital backup footage to match, so I went with an all-digital version. This is telecine I did at home by taping a Lowel frost gel to a cardboard box, projecting the film onto the gel and recording it with a GH1. It ended up having kind of an interestingly shitty look:
  9. I'm always trying to get the Super 8 look, and this thread motivated me to try again. This is my bmpcc treated to look like Super 8. I want to post footage, but for some reason, a lot of my gorilla grain files cause red flash frames when composited over the footage. Fine grain works, but anything heavier has this problem. I'm pretty satisfied with this look. It's the closest I've gotten I think.

Damn, I paid $200 for my 16mm on ebay. :/ I'd definitely like that 25mm and 10mm too. All are pretty expensive on ebay.

I'm really damn impressed with the Switar 16mm wide open (f/1.8).

12.5: I filed the edge of the back part of the lens. I followed this video: 6.5: I took off the lens mount and replaced it with a mount from a Computar 16mm f/1.6 c mount lens that doesn't cover the sensor/is a shitty lens. It couldn't screw on as a 1:1 switch so I superglued it. I screwed the mount on the camera while it was on, put the glue on the inside, and slid the lens on until it was in focus. No. No idea, but I suppose if you're using a GH4 you can shoot in 4K and zoom in to the s16/2K area of the image.

Tested out a couple of c-mount lenses I got for the BMPCC. I also wanted to test out some natural and artificial lighting set-ups. Kern-Paillard Switar 16mm f/1.8 AR Cosmicar 12.5mm f/1.8 (modified) I'm pretty damn pleased with these lenses. My Rokinons were good lenses, but didn't quite have the character I was looking for. Both shots were f/2.8, 800iso, ProresHQ. And for fun, a modified Cosmicar 6.5mm f/1.8 (at f/4): I like ultra-wide lenses for a surreal feel.

Just got the set of 3 Kiev16u lenses that are common on ebay. I love the 20mm and 50mm lenses, but the 12mm is horrible. I don't know if it's my copy or what, but it doesn't even begin to match the sharpness of the other lenses until like f/5.6. And the vignette is awful too. I wouldn't mind a little bit in each corner that I could just slightly crop out, but this is just one broad curve in the top left. But that Vega 20mm is great. I'm loving the look of it so far.
  15. Thanks, man! Pete was originally supposed to wear a different shirt (the one from the opening shot) but Brandon Nebitt had the idea to wear that one. We figure he found it in the trash.
  16. The film is done. Password: Flubb3r
  17. Yeah, but if you conduct a survey on whether or not vimeo sucks now, do you ignore the "no" reponses and just take the "yes" responses as a definitive answer? The "yes" answers are meaningless on their own. If 2/5 people say "yes" and 3/5 people say "no", does vimeo suck now? I was almost ready to cancel my vimeo plus account, but after testing it myself and seeing a few people here not having the problem, it made me reconsider. I'm not totally decided yet, but both experiences are important data in that decision making. That's why I reported my results anyway.
  18. I don't think the film looks horrible or particularly good. Like it's just right down the middle bland, like a lot of mainstream movies these days.
  19. Vimeo is working normally for me too.
  20. Thanks, Ed. That means a lot coming from you.
  21. Thanks, dudes I got back in touch with the composer of the first film, Mitch Welling. He's back for the new film.I know other good composers who would/could do it, but I'm glad he's on board for this one. It just wouldn't be the same.
  22. No one cares, but here's a new teaser: I wrapped the film yesterday. I got some good stuff. The rough cut is all done. I'm waiting to hear back from the composer of the first film.
