JeremyDulac reacted to hyalinejim in GH5 to Alexa Conversion
When I'm using LUTs that don't use the full range on output I feed in a maxed out white or black image and then tweak after the lut so that whites are white and blacks are black and use this as a basis for grading.

@Sage Awesome. Yeah there are a lot of amazing vlog samples in this post!

That looks really good @jsmorris_,
What do you think of Soft? It is something of a dream starting point for me, as compared to Arri's 709.
I took a minute to dial in the grade on top of the EC Soft component applied to your LogC shot, attached are the shifts I made to LGG and the color wheels:
For our purpose, I recommend V-Log. The conversion to Alexa space is more direct via the VLog route, which minimizes translation error. Technically, HLG uses a bit more bit depth and stores shadows linearly, but in practice they are both effective storage formats for the core sensor data and will get you to the same place (extremes of range preserved).

JeremyDulac reacted to markr041 in EOSHD Pro Color for Sony Cameras
Many example videos using EOSHD Pro Color settings are either taken exclusively at night or mucked up with Luts that completely alter the color, so you cannot see what the Pro Color settings do.
So here is a video shot using the Sony A7s ii in daylight with no Lut applied in post. The main subjects are flowers - nature's color palette (although there is also a cat). There are plenty of blues, greens, yellows, whites, reds, etc (though no human skin).

Nice! Yeah same here..Premiere's lumetri has a hue/saturation curve that works great.

Looks good. But in the Eoshd pro color shots, it may just be me, but the boys face looks quite magenta or red. I have been having issues with overly red skintones on my a6500, i shoot with color phase at 0, but still get a lot of red, though other reds in the shot are accurately saturated. Not sure where the issue is. I don't necessarily mind it as having more saturation than less is ideal and works out in my coloring process.

Still using my mark iii for color...I went back to it after having the a7s for a while. Still not convinced I could be as confident every time I shoot as I am with the 5d raw. I've never had one instance of bad color with it.

JeremyDulac reacted to Andrew Reid in The Canon fight back begins - with a box
Please man, do not take the article literally!! It is SATIRE!
I am amazed how many people switch off their sense of humour and irony when reading text on a computer screen, taking it all as literal and explicit. Maybe it is the lack of vocal tone infliction or something else.
If someone is really interested in filmmaking, they would not spend $1649 on a cardboard box con trick. They would have to be really stupid to do that.
They would buy the separate pieces cheaper on eBay and spend the rest on the ACTUAL FILM.

Thank you so much for this, Andrew. I would also like to thank all of you who are offended by this or upset by it...it makes this article all the more wonderful. Stay up on that high horse, Andrew!!

Oh lighten up. Canon deserve all the bashing in the world for selling such a POS package for that much money. As for the consumers... you can forgive some teenagers tugging at their dad's sleeve to buy this package based on the marketing. As for anybody else who isn't put off by the cheesy-ass box... 5 minutes of research on a smartphone will tell them to save their money and get a camera three times as good, a mic twice as good and still have money left over for a decent 64GB SD card...

JeremyDulac reacted to lafilm in Sony A7S Review Part 2 and Conclusion
Roger Deakins is a great DP. Can't argue that. That being said I could care less what his opinion is (or anyone else) of any given film.
A lot of DP's have terrible taste in film.
BITWC is a great film. Not that anyone gives a shit what I think :P

JeremyDulac reacted to Mark Lewis in Sony A7S Review Part 2 and Conclusion
I don't really care about Roger Deakins. He's got an entire crew to cary around his gear, light, and get him coffee and craft service. In my case it's just me, walking around, trying to capture the best images I can. The lightweight of the Sony bodies and the silent shutter option in the A7s is very intruiging. I'm going to rent one in the next weekend to see if I can live with it as my main camera.

JeremyDulac reacted to Andrew Reid in Grading the Sony A7S with S-LOG 2 and some EOSHD cinematic looks for download
You are talking about a huge REM fan here :) Buck's two latest albums, 2012 and 2014 are certainly worth a listen if you can find them. Vinyl release only!

Pocket is a nice bargain for so little money but the A7S gives you far more. Far far more. In some ways $500 on the Pocket is $500 wasted by not getting something better. I had the Pocket on the same shoot as the A7S yesterday and hated every moment handling it. Dreary screen, poor ergonomics, too few features and no full frame look.
