  1. The footage looks quite nice but after a couple of years, only producing a few frames isn't very impressive. WHEN is it coming out? I think they also missed the train in terms of pricing. It was a good deal if it had come out when it was supposed to. Now they will be fighting BMD cameras, Canon Raw hack cameras and God knows which 4K cameras will come out over the next couple of years from anything from cell phone manufacturers to other small outfits. (Not saying a 4K cell phone is very interesting, but it shows how much chipsets have come down in price...)
  2. Not sure why they wouldn't first update the FS100. The FS700 is a lot more expensive.. (so bigger market for FS100, plus it is much older)   In any case, I agree with Andrew, they should stop purposely hobbling their Nex cameras. I went away from Nex and with Panasonic since I lost patience with them playing around. Panasonic isn't perfect either, but the GH3 is pretty darn good, with the exception of missing focus-peaking and not outputting 4:2:2 over HDMI.

    Need some advice

    Vignetting: http://toothwalker.org/optics/vignetting.html
  4.   I always heard it can improve motion smoothness. That said, I am progressive all the way..
  5. Wow, that is some detective work :) Thanks!
  6. Thanks for the input! I did end up getting the shooters guide. Even though I think it needs to be updated to include some additional lenses, it was very valuable in understanding some of the basics, and will be useful as a reference when I start filming and doing post-work.
  7. Got an interesting diopter. It is a B+W 0.5, 67mm. Found it on ebay, looks brand new (from a camera store), but quite old. I cannot find any documentation of it's existence, even on the B+W website. Maybe some of you know about it, but new to me. Now I just have to get the anamorphic lens to test it out, but I am hoping it should be good, considering the brand.
  8. I have to agree. It did show off the tech well, but that's it. Especially the helicopter-bit (around 1:25) was cringe-worthy.
  9. Hi,   I have become intrigued by Anamorphic shooting (just a few weeks ago I questioned the point of doing this at all). However, I do not have much of a budget (surely an understatement especially from some of the prices I see out there).  At this point I can spend about $400 total for some kind of anamorphic lens and connection system....    I am guessing unless I look at projection lenses, not much in terms of options? What is the cheapest option deemed acceptable in the Shooters guide? (roughly)   Does the guide provide any pointers for me that are useful if I go the non-recommended route and buy a projection lens?   Thanks!
  10. Do you have any example footage? How wide can the lens be before vignetting?   Thanks
  11. Noise doesn't seem bad, but many cameras have noise reduction (which sometimes cannot be completely disabled). Of Course it will not compete with 5d mk3 though.
  12. I think it is too early to say much on pq vs original bmcc, but there are of course several advantages to go with the bmcc which may or may not matter to you. The bmpcc's only(?) Advantage is active mft mount. (And portability I suppose)
  13. I wouldn't be too hard on JB. I am guessing he has a busy schedule and did some quick takes when he had the chance. As others have mentioned, it is good it is not too "perfect" either - this gives a pretty realistic idea of what material one may end up having to work with.   Enjoying seeing everyone's grades - quite some different takes on it. Must be the most re-graded footage on the internet, today :)
  14.   Please remind me, what is the price for a 1DX these days?
  15. Looks promising for sure! I may have to overload my creditcard once more, but will wait until they are in stock, so maybe I have some time!
  16. Yes that would be interesting. AFAIK when shoting Raw on the 5d there is no audio (correct me if I'm wrong!) So calculate in cost of external audio recorder and added steps in work flow. Bmcc doesnt have xlr but it does have balanced inputs so pretty easy to hook up good mic. I Expect a fast memory card for raw is pretty comparable to a ssd drive
  17. Mac vs pc debate is pathetic and then you commence to stoke the fire? My Opinion is simply that we all should choose the tools that fit our use and budget the best. I Buy equipment on my own dime, mainly to make material for the church I belong to. A camera like the bmcc will work great and I can't afford a fs700, alexa, Red, etc anyway.
  18. For you and peederj, I don't see anyone bashing other cameras. You go into a Ford Mustang thread and tell people Mustangs suck. If you can't afford a Ferrari, you might as well just ride a bike. The cameras mentioned are great, but I think it is a sad attitude that unless you make a lot of money you should not hope for good quality cameras. Does BMD have the best sensors, no, but the full package is clearly appealing to many of us. Anyway some of you seem to think that weell paying commercial jobs is more important than producing something creative on a shoe-string budget. I know which crowd I would rather associate with.
  19. Peederj, it is pretty weak to simply say that anyone who wants to shoot good video has to be willing to spend 5K+. Pretty elitist if you ask me. By all means, feel that way but frankly you have no business criticizing products that are so far beneath you. BMD is clearly aiming at a different market, with different price expectations and a willingness to forgive some compromises. I do not understand the level of effort you put into this little crusade of yours. Go shoot some nice movies with whatever equipment you prefer. It doesn't sound like you have ever touched a Bmd cam, or ever will, so your opinion is quite frankly irrelevant and of zero interest.
  20. First of all, ridiculous speculations about a company going out of business when all indications point the other way: They can't produce cameras fast enough = big demand They clearly stated they were able to lower price due to better cost structures People who use the cameras seem to love them. Secondly, cameras like other electronics works fine regardless of the status of the manufacturer.
  21. Was thinking the same thing.. certainly a problem though I think digitalbolex is a bit more for nostalgic runandgunners. I think they will still be the cheapest global shutter cam though.
  22. Did you ever consider that they may be aiming at making this a bigger market with low margins? They are essentially trying to eat away at dslr and prosumer vid cam shares with better products at competitive prices. If they get their supply chain in order, the japanese companies are the ones who should be concerned, who artificially have been keeping prices too high for the tech they provide and blatant witholding of features to support multi tier product lines.
  23. HAha quite happy with it. The plan is to use it for wide shots and slow motion. The rest will be on a BMD when I can afford it.
