I'm still seeing user reports of a6500 occasionally overheating.

And even if it didn't.... Thus then you could use it as your A cam for weddings, where oh where are your cheaper B cam options?? They don't exist! Not like the G7. And if you purchased 3x a6500 that would totally blow your budget.

+1 Jon!...just tell the bride & groom that you did not get their shots because your one perfect camera that can shoot in pitch black, but started overheating after 3 min had to be turned off for 10 min at a time, and you have a disaster on your hands that I personally would not want to be around for....and the emphasis is on "a once in a lifetime event"...no bring everybody back the next day for a reshoot...only sane way is with back ups for your back ups!

+100...before I became interested in the GH5 I did not even know what a Vlogger was?...but is it sensible to buy a complex camera that one knows anything  about and after 2 or 3 days rushing a review of a feature good or bad out there, because you're trying to get your piece of bullshit out there, before the next guy's...did this even exist 4  or 5 years ago....and how does it help the film making community....what it will do though, is make money for one guy ( who's business it is to attract more followers, be it blasting a product that they had no business making a public statement about in the first place) and for the people who actually want to create something (not sell their under informed opinions)....what it does for them?...It will stifle innovation on the part of companies like Panasonic, because why should you put professional features in a camera at great cost to your company, only for it to land up in the hands of a bunch of whiners....no wonder a Andrew is getting sick of this...I'm personally mystified that he's had the discipline to last as long as he has....

I wouldn't even want to do a wedding with only one shooter...  Most weddings have two shooters filming it. (A few with 3 or more...)
But I understand if some low budget shoots might do it solo.
But for the ceremony and reception you absolutely want at least two more cameras rolling on a tripod. One a big wide shot to capture everything. And another tighter shot on the couple.
Then you'd roam with with your A Cam on a monopod, capturing all the juicy spontaneous moments.
If you can get more extra cameras... That is good too! Then you can put one tighter shot on Bride side and another on Groom side, and another pointing backwards at the guests.
I've shot weddings with half a dozen cameras rolling at once.

I have literally never touched AF on my GH4's since 2014 lol...who could have thought!!

I don't think Panasonic anticipated all this fuss about AF, so the settings and the manual aren't that well thought out.
Frankly, neither did I. Can't believe the % of attention this camera is getting that's going into this. Personally, I don't give a rat's ass about AF even if it could be a nice extra. I rarely use gimbal and can live with deep DOF or keeping appropriate distance and just tapping on my phone attached to my arm when I need to refocus. Now, with IBIS (which is truly amazing) I'll use gimbal even less as I don't mind slight handheld look most of the time.
FWIW, I think the Panasonic's excuse for not implementing PD focus because it degrades IQ is bullshit though. I reckon it was a commercial decision they had to make as clearly there is a limit of R&D that can go into a camera at this price.

Ken...I think Panasonic will lose very few sales over this issue...as you know, in reality it's fixable for those needing AF...for those who hate this camera, you could put an Alexa sensor and processing at 4K in the GH5 body, and they'd still complain...because they made their minds up before the first image ever appeared online...I'm sure there are a few exceptions, but I think for the most part this already holds true...Jon...I can understand for your purpose that you may be on the fence...but then you already have the G85/80?...and the cameras are very close...but for anyone wanting to shoot anything, the IQ is a no-brainer...I can't keep thinking of the US election as a personal comparison to the GH5...to me with the election, the question that keeps coming up, WHAT PLANET DO YOU LIVE ON???...clearly not the same one I do!...anyway...it's the same with this camera...if someone hates this camera, I don't have either the verbal skill, nor the patience to persuade them...my only regret in this is that if Panasonic  sells many of these, more money to put into the next great GH camera from them a few years down the road...

The focus pull feature is actually the only time I could see not using manual focus...truth be told, the main reason I bought the Leica 12-60

Their batteries are rated at 5200Ah...GH4/5 batteries are 1860Ah...theoretically about 5 times + the power in the 2 battery pack Atomos...so the PowerStation is a nice sollution if you're not walking around with the camera...plus the batteries are hot swappable...and I already own a bunch of extra Sony batteries for my Shogun & Blade...as these cameras up the bit rate and processing game, so follows the power needs....the Shogun, which I record to, hogs power!!!...but you get Prores...so it's all good!....a handy solution for my personal needs...

So 18 mm vignettes on the XL speed booster and Sigma 18-35 @ 18 mm and not on the Ultra speed booster, but it really makes no difference as the XL gives you a wider FOV anyway, so it seems on the XL you would simply zoom on the Sigma until you match the FOV you would get using the Ultra speed booster...

I'm contemplating the Atomos Power Staion for when I have it on rails and tripod with external recorder...the Shogun also devours batteries, and then I will have 2 extra GH 4 batteries for walking around...power consumption with the GH5 is definitely a step up over the 4 to consider as part of a complete system...

This makes a lot of sense...I think one will have to pick your battles with how you expose...for narrative, a light meter will always the preferred choice, but for what Jon does, in the case of the dark scene except for a sliver of sky, I would imagine the default would become to let the highlight blow out...so much is dependent using this exposure method on the actual scene.

Use 1-area AF if you want the best results. Period. In my tests I did not activate the custom AF settings and got very little hunting when I did the 'now you see the lens, now you don't' test. The same test that was a total failure for Max. IMO, for most uses, there's no need to use the custome speed and sensitivity, but if you insist, watch this video where he does adjust it but still gets better results than Max, because he used 1-area. Many subjects will also do fine when using the AF lock, which will totally eliminate hunting. Then there's MF, but nobody wants to discuss that.  I just don't know what else to say on this topic, I'm worn out.

Orangenz, unless I'm misunderstanding you, if you're using 1-area AF, you should be able to just tap anywhere on the LCD and get the camera to focus where you finger lands. It simply moves the AF box to the new area, but does it instantly. If you then hit the joy stick, it will return to the central area focus point.
Ah, so even my 4 hour estimate was too high. Good to know.

That's pretty funny when a guy like him uses the GH5 with all of the AF naysaying. It's also funny that the AF worked far better for him than it ever did for Max. In fact if you've seen some of his other videos, he's gotten far worse results with other cameras. I guess he's another guy that got a pretty good one.

Fritz, I do admit to being pretty steady, but the IBIS surely helps a great deal. With my prior Sonys with IBIS and/or OIS (A7Rii & A6300), my steadiness was compromised by the Sony's jitter. The GH5's IBIS is really worlds better.

He suggests setting Zebras to 80%....then backing off on any highlights till Zebras disappear.
In all fairness though...I don't have a GH5 in my hands to test...I'm just repeating what he posted.
