  1. Got a chance to see some modern stuff projected tonight. Damn man, celluloid is amazing, too bad it looks like shit online. Seeing real grain dancing on a screen is amazing.
  2. I would! Google can provide you with auto captions (they do this on their end regardless if you enable it or not to determine what is in your video,) that you can edit. Doing CC for sounds is going to be insanely tedious. Here's a quick guide on captioning sounds: https://www.gosub.tv/blog/2016/07/02/the-ins-and-outs-of-sound-effects-in-captioning/
  3. TLDR; always upload in 4k if you can Basically: if people aren't subscribed to you or have a direct link to your video, how is someone going to find your content? Google needs to assign a score to YouTube content so it can determine what to show people. For your particular niche (niche being the genre of video your viewers are interested in,) you are competing with other videos. It's safe to assume good content does well with viewers and thus your channel and videos get a better ranking. But there's a whole chicken and egg thing at the start. If you don't have many views or videos, how do you get a better score to drive in more views? And then with very competitive niches (fashion, makeup, tech reviews, let's plays, etc) just having amazing content isn't good enough, you need an edge to beat out your competition for views. Uploading in 4K and beyond, creating subtitles, using whatever best practices YouTube outlines for creators, all give your channel and videos just a few more points. And that can make all the difference in getting views. More views, more people see your work, and if you want, more ad revenue.
  4. If it's going to live on YouTube my belief is that you should be adapting to and using everything Google gives you (cards, subtitles, etc,) as the ranking algorithm will give you an edge. So yeah, I would upload to 4K and beyond if possible.
  5. So then all m43 lenses will be not optimal? So the BMCC speedbooster preforms better than the XL on a BMCC?
  6. Currently on the lookout for a FF zoom that is sharper than the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 wide open. Need a lens with a larger focal length range. I thought the Tokina f/2.6 was an amazing lens but I don't think the aperture is constant and it's awfully soft open.
  7. Is there anything wrong with the following logic? If the metabones is incompatible, so would any m43 lens. I can use both the XL and Ultra Speedboosters on any currently released Blackmagic m43 mount camera. Ergo unless BM completely fucked with the mount specs, anything designed to mount on a m43 sensor will be compatible with the Pocket 4k.
  8. This is my current solution. Using a tower with Nvidia 1080 TI FE, Blackmagic DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K and Mini Monitor 4K. Using a custom built cart for DIT. I welded 3 monitor mounts to the frame. It's big, clunky and a pain to deal with. Can only use it in the studio, too much headache for field use. But Resolve Live is powerful and has the features I need. I would love to replace this setup with a laptop. Would need a SDI to USB device for it to work. Edit: UltraStudio Mini Recorder with a Thunderbolt capable laptop. Edit 2: Mini Recorder can't do 1080p60. Edit 3: Magwell USB Capture SDI Gen 2, supports 1080p60 and uses USB3.
  9. Everytime I get some camera GAS and start to pour of the alternatives, I realize just how damn small the Pocket 4K is! There isn't a camera like it for its size. And price wise it makes you second guess actually buying that camera you rent all the time.
  10. Specifically about the Blackmagic subforum... The general posts are infested with endless speculation and shitposts. Perfect example: this thread is a 100 pages of garbage with maybe 10ish posts that are worth reading. Subforum focus is more on technical info, especially solutions to hardware and software quirks. Juan Melara and some other awesome people will occasionally post in the subforum. It actually works out fairly well. And more often than not a Google search will land you in the subforum. Like a library, lots of good info without the noise.
  11. lol he's a spammer guys, don't bother replying
  12. Why not? At least it's a little smaller than...
  13. lol the irony On topic: what's the usual lag between a canon patent and an actual release?
  14. Blackmagic has quietly increased the price from $1,295 to $1,349 USD.
  15. Grant even said he was announcing it too early. September 2018 is impossible. Prove me wrong Blackmagic, prove me wrong. :D
  16. Yup, as exciting as this camera is, the form factor is no good for gimbals. Too wide, single mounting points, no shutter release, possibly heavier than the original pocket. Hopefully an updated micro is around the corner. Also not to be a downer, but Grant even said the announcement was happening too early for his liking. September 2018 release is a pipedream, zero point in preordering.
  17. Weight won't be finalized until closer to ship time. Material used is a hybrid plastic + carbon fiber material. Was mentioned in the presentation.
  18. DSLR cameras don't output RAW Bayer data. ProRes RAW is compressed Bayer data. What manufacturer would be willing to undercut its own cinema cameras with cheap DSLRs/MILCs? Sony, Canon and Panasonic have products that output RAW. That leaves Nikon, Olympus, Pentax and Fuji. Edit: Also Sigma. Wouldn't that be cool if they offered RAW video out?
  19. Which camera outputs RAW over HDMI?
  20. Yeah exactly. Still it's hard not get excited and think about all the different stuff we'll learn: frame rates dynamic range ProRes RAW support recording media sensor size lens mount battery type
  21. Disagree. They wouldn't use the Pocket brand on swappable mount cam.
  22. You know what's nuts about Canon and the C200? It has a 10-bit codec. But you're forced to shoot at 60fps. 125 MB/s for 12bit 30p. 125 MB/s for 10bit 60p. Canon doesn't want us to have 50MB/s 10bit 30p. lol Won't be renting this camera anymore. Shoots a great imagine, wanted to buy it, but the media issue is seriously fucked. Only 1 cfast slot, and no 10-bit 30fps.
  23. Oh no, haha, I was being snarky. A few of the grades on this thead had pretty aggressive sharpening. Too much and it looks like video and you have to hide it with grain. Grain is really good at hiding artifacts and blown highlights. You have to cheat somewhere in your grade and I like to do it with skin. Pump up the contrast and you can pop the talent without messing with the rest of your image. Love doing it with 8bit log. You can keep all that dynamic range and still have great colors and skintones. Makes the shot look really expensive. Like you had a whole crew and cinema camera.
  24. look ma no hands sharpening or grain necessary!
