I haven't gotten a chance to see BMCC's imagery in cinemas or at film festivals over a length of a full feature film, - tests, music videos and shorts don't give me the real "feel" for what this camera can do.
Does anyone know of any theatrical feature films that were shot on BMCC?

I'm using Lexar cards with no issues.

It's incredible what the 5D can do now, no more excuses from anyone eh ;)
This.

Same lens and codec but different sensors and resolutions.
Canon's sensor owns...

I wonder what is Blackmagic's traditionally most profitable product? Canon releases their sales numbers publicly and we know 5D is their money maker, but I haven't seen such breakdowns of BM's business. Quite a lot of live/audio guys are their customers.

5D is hands down the best cinema tool I could possibly ask for. It is the tool that closest resembles a rock guitar for filmmaking...you just pick it up, and you JAM. With RAW we have pretty much everything we could ask for....and I'm sure BM4K will fill in the final gaps for us soon.

Bioskop, is that an update for 4K camera or pocket?

As soon as i saw people going for a hike or filming flowers/cats or whatever, my whole body just shuddered & convulsed in pain.
Soon to be joined by millions of iPhone 5S videos of cats in 120fps...;)

Apple is the most aggressive consumer camera manufacturer ( yes, that's what they are now ), after 120fps they still have room to grow with adding megapixels, global shutter and higher dynamic range, ( maybe even RAW since they control the quicktime codec) .
They will most certainly go there sooner or later. Lack of interchangeable lenses on the iPhone is the only thing keeping DSLRs from cannibalization by Apple.

BMCC or 5Dm3

Buy a 5D and focus on the story as you easily swap out memory cards and batteries. BMCC is not a one-man crew camera, 5D is.

Apple spend years in secret R'n'D without making any announcements, then shock the world just as production is well underway. For example the iPad prototype was developed first, but it was kept a secret until they perfected the tech with the iPhone. Now that's patience, class and professionalism.

The medium format megapixel monster that Canon is currently preparing for 2014 release will apparently shoot 4K. CR reports that the camera is currently in testing and that the 4K mode is eating batteries. I assume that is due to massive compression happening inside the camera, so it probably rules out RAW.
It will be expensive, in $6-12k category.
But hey, at least it will ship before BM4K. :D

The Varicam body looks badass!

5D3 vs Kineraw Mini from Cinema5D
Looks like 5D is better for low light scenes, Kineraw better for bright daylight scenes.

An update from Blackmagic on the 4K camera:
I just want to give you an update on the 4K camera.
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we received the production sensors much later than we expected. When we built cameras from them we saw some big differences in the images between these production sensors vs the pre production samples we originally received. What this means is that we have been working over the last few weeks to replace a bunch of the software in the camera that handles the sensor calibration and image processing.
It's taking a bit longer than we expected to do this and we think its going to take about 3 to 4 weeks more to get those changes done and to get the QA process completed before we can start shipping.
We apologize for the delays from the original promised date. Ultimately, image calibration is a very important step so we want to make sure this is done properly before shipping.
Regards,
Grant Petty

Pre-Production sensors different from the Production sensors they actually received?
Deja Vu...are they saying they got punked by ANOTHER CHINESE MANUFACTURER?
this is not looking good...

The shake is particularly visible when you play the video at full screen.
1:11 and 1:13 - Almost feels like the camera keeps bumping into something.
1:21 - There is a pitching movement.
1:49 - Focus on the rocks, not on the actor, you will notice small but consistent camera shake.

I think it's the product, MOVI guys had a lot more time to fune-tune their stuff. I only really need a smooth forward dolly movement, not planning any crazy pans and turns, so the DEFY rig might still work for my film needs, but I want to see MOVI M5 footage before making a decision.

Check out Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, it has a bunch of tracking telephoto shots.

Would love to see a short greenscreen test or unkeyed clip from the Kineraw in the upcoming review!

I haven't seen any footage from M5 yet, but the G5 footage actually has some jerky movements I didn't like. Waiting to see m5 demos to decide.

Since RAW is.. RAW, can you shoot with a BMCC + 5D3/7D etc and get very similar results when grading? Or do they grade differently?
BMCC, 5D3 and 7D all have different crop factors, so while your images could be matched by color in post, they would most probably look quite different optically.

It's September 1st, and BM misses its second deadline with 4K camera. Website still says "Shipping in August."
What camera should I get for filming protests and blogging?!?!?!

iPhone with a wide-angle lens? You really want everything in focus when you are filming crowds.
