  1. I haven't gotten a chance to see BMCC's imagery in cinemas or at film festivals over a length of a full feature film, - tests, music videos and shorts don't give me the real "feel" for what this camera can do.

Does anyone know of any theatrical feature films that were shot on BMCC?

  2. Apple is the most aggressive consumer camera manufacturer ( yes, that's what they are now ), after 120fps they still have room to grow with adding megapixels, global shutter and higher dynamic range, ( maybe even RAW since they control the quicktime codec) .

They will most certainly go there sooner or later. Lack of interchangeable lenses on the iPhone is the only thing keeping DSLRs from cannibalization by Apple.

The medium format megapixel monster that Canon is currently preparing for 2014 release will apparently shoot 4K. CR reports that the camera is currently in testing and that the 4K mode is eating batteries. I assume that is due to massive compression happening inside the camera, so it probably rules out RAW.

It will be expensive, in $6-12k category.

But hey, at least it will ship before BM4K.  :D

  4. An update from Blackmagic on the 4K camera:

    Hi,

I just want to give you an update on the 4K camera.

As we mentioned a few weeks ago, we received the production sensors much later than we expected. When we built cameras from them we saw some big differences in the images between these production sensors vs the pre production samples we originally received. What this means is that we have been working over the last few weeks to replace a bunch of the software in the camera that handles the sensor calibration and image processing.

It's taking a bit longer than we expected to do this and we think its going to take about 3 to 4 weeks more to get those changes done and to get the QA process completed before we can start shipping.

We apologize for the delays from the original promised date. Ultimately, image calibration is a very important step so we want to make sure this is done properly before shipping.

Pre-Production sensors different from the Production sensors they actually received?

Deja Vu...are they saying they got punked by ANOTHER CHINESE MANUFACTURER?

    this is not looking good...

  5. I think it's the product, MOVI guys had a lot more time to fune-tune their stuff. I only really need a smooth forward dolly movement, not planning any crazy pans and turns, so the DEFY rig might still work for my film needs, but I want to see MOVI M5 footage before making a decision.
