  1. This guy is indeed impressive. Give him 5 minutes, boom. He knows how to fill it. His videos feel much longer, in a good way.

The other thing is that you can see his vimeo channel from the start, how he polished his style.

For example the "Real Fighter" wasn't as good as his later stuff, but you can clearly see that he was working on his ideas until they became "perfect".

Also I was thinking about the creative use of broken glasses and other things in front of the lens since I saw this video:

But now he makes me revisit the idea. Besides of the mood it gives, you can certainly improve on highlights as well. Watch the shots against windows in his videos. The foggy flare looks really great, no sign of bad DR or shitty roll-off.

Yeah, he used to post at Cinema5D, I told him he better hurry up and make a feature film, I hope he listened is gonna blow us away someday.

  2. Alternatively, one of the big boys could jump on this bandwagon and steal Lytra's thunder, sort of the way Playstation Morpheus is trying to do to Oculus Rift. The name of the game in the tech industry is "new", that's how you sell. After all, where do we have left to go after 4K-3D-HFR are no longer novelties? Exciting times.

Wow, I did not expect this to go beyond the quirky experimental stage so quickly....looks like they took some pointers from BMD in terms of design. The camera has flexible DOF and can apparently do 3D with a single lens....crazy. It costs $1,599.

Right now it can only do stills at 4MP resolution....but if they manage to make this baby do RAW image sequences in 4K as well as record sound....well...that will really, truly change the game.

If adopted by the film industry, this could potentially make all of the current cinema glass obsolete...

But only imagine being able to adjust DOF, exposure and 3D...all in post.

  4. Glad to help. What I love about this forum is that it is both non-corporate and mature, and I'd like it to stay that way, with strong opinions or language fine in my book as long as character assassination, gossip and spam stays out.

  5. Northlight is suggesting EOS M3 and 7D2 in Q3 as well as the mythical new EOS 3D in Q4 this year. ( The 3D is also a possible codename for 5D4 ). Regardless of whether these camera will come out or not, I feel that filmmakers already have everything they need for 2K and 4K shooting ( BM, Panasonic, Sony, 5D3, Kinefinity ), anything extra would be a nice cherry on top, but no longer game changing.

  6. Yes censored.

So I'll mention this on here instead...

A few years ago when I was starting EOSHD, I was banned from the DVXUser forum due to disagreements with some members and some of the moderating team. There was a bit of an element of a personality clash.

At the time I was also running some articles strongly critical of Red and their delays / price / spec changes with the Scarlet.

Landmine Media who run DVXUser actually went to Jim Jannard's legal department and together they sued me for $70,000.

Sued for forum posts and my own opinion at EOSHD.

In order to drop the case, Jim Jannard's lawyer said I would have to sign a non-disparagement agreement which I duly signed and faxed over under pressure of a very stressful court battle which I couldn't afford to defend myself over. I simply wanted a quiet life.

There's always been a very vocal anti-EOSHD group of users at DVX, BMCC and Personal-View. In recent months it has become borderline harassment.

I've been caused no end of stress from this and it is beginning to really get to me, personally and privately.

I hope this helps to give some perspective as to my strong feelings towards the BMCUser taunts.

That's insane. I'd love to sue RED for pretty much everything that was ever posted on their forum.

  7. C stands for Cinema, and while the C-line has been super successful in broadcast, I'm disappointed that it did not actually deliver proper cinema tools. They should've named the line B for Broadcast, and focused on creating 1DC ( FF + S35 @ 4K ), 7DC ( 2K @ S35 ) and 5DC ( 2K @ Full Frame ) dslrs with internal EosRAW codec, this would've made the C-DSLR system very modular and perfect for filmmakers.

  8. I'm just trying to think the way you think... "today I'm gonna shoot a video, let's take this dslr", the day after.. "today I'm gonna shoot some stills, let's take a blackmagic"!

The reason you would use a 4K video camera to capture stills is to capture 30 raw photos per second and have more choice in the editorial. No DSLR can shoot 30 photos per second at this time.
