This is not 2008 anymore. 4K is 4K, I don't care what the hell it is shot on. The average person doesn't even know what the hell DR even is. 3/4 the people on here acts like Netflix is going to pick them up. Good luck with that happening. Shoot something, anything with anything and be happy.  You have in your pants pocket 90% of what you ever need camera wise. Made it so. Jesus like a bunch of little kids on here. OHH I'm going to buy this, no I am going to buy that. Ohh I will wait until next year when the Panasonic FF comes out, Yeah right. They haven't made a camera in the last 6 years you can't make a feature movie with, including a Smartphone. Make it so. You can buy Cine cameras you could only dream of for less money now than most of there new Mirrorless stuff is. Make it so. This whole forum is turned into a QVC shopping channel.  Shoot something, Christ.

Assuming I agree 100% with everything you said (I don't at all).  Why are you here?  Ask yourself why?  You're not shooting when you're posting this nonsense either Mr. Hypocrite.

Doesn't sound like you have checked into options for Smartphones. Hell buy anything that blows up your skirt. But don't say ohh this is shit, and this is shit. If you can't make something happen on a Smartphone you aren't going to make it happen on Any camera.

I have an 8 plus.  You shoot anything besides casual walk around good light close up items?  I'll post my best MOON pic with a real camera, and you show me yours with a phone.  $1000 cash says mine is so much better.

What phone is going to shoot my kids playing sports with ANY sort of detail at 200 feet away?  Talking video.

Up next, I'll show up and do another wedding video with my phone.  Clients will love that; I'll tell them webrunner5 sent me.

I have to get out this thread; can't waste any more time arguing with people who just don't get it.

Show me a phone with dof thing on VIDEO, I don’t care about DOF effect on photos, I want it on VIDEO

Show me how easy it is to see the damn phone screen in bright sunlight.  Make mine a EVF every time.  Shot some footage at Gatorland in June during mid-day and I had to point and "guess" with my iphone.  Literally could not see a damn thing with that Florida sun.

    It's $500!

And you could get walk around with easy manual focus / peaking with that sweet Nokton 25mm F/0.95 with 5 axis stabilization.  I still have some GH2 footage I shot wide open with that lens from 2011 and it holds up pretty well 7 years later.

It's not the worst idea I've seen on here and I love the price.

Well I have looked all over for DR on the mk III and the best I can find is for photo, and even that is pretty low. SO I would bet the Video DR on it is no better than 10 tops.  The new iPhones and the Samsungs all had a DoF thingy now that works pretty well. Low light, we are not talking A7s stuff here with a m4/3 sensor in this camera. I think, to me it is a no go. Pass. Hell you can't even make a phone call on it. ? Sure on vacation you can throw it in your wife's purse and away you go, but to use on a daily basis, nah. Phones have Really gotten pretty damn good.

Some people shoot things far away....like sports, wildlife.  What 300 2.8 amI going to put on my iphone 8 plus and shoot my son playing travel baseball from beyond center field?  What 600-1200mm equivalent can I shoot the moon with and get any detail on my phone?  No offense, but for YOU perhaps it doesn't make sense, but you don't speak for everyone else.  All tiny sensor phones SUCK in low light.

So yeah - shooting casual video of things up close and in good light - you may not see that big of a difference.  Throw a bright lens on a micro 4/3rds in difficult light and it sings.

The Leica used to include a free full version of Lightroom. And since Adobe pulled the plug it now includes 3 free months. So there is at least a little more value than just the design.

(BTW, I hate that the support by Adobe for Lightroom has ended. Now I have to include the price of a subscription when buying a late 2018 or newer camera. Unless its a true Leica, Sigma or Pentax which of course shoots DNGs.)

Adobe is killing Lightroom?  Do you have a link for the changes?  Or just Lightroom classic?

The Panasonic S1 and S1R are probably why! For video they beat every full frame camera past, present and future!

This thread has it all - not released yet; but "beat every full frame camera ever, past present and future" (despite all the lack of info we have right now) to "camera sucks".  Only on EOSHD can you get such a wide range of speculation!

The crop monkey is not pleased.

  7. I had the 1dxII after owning the 1dC and multiple 1dx's.  For me it' didn't have the mojo of the 1DC or C100 Mark II if I'm completely honest.  Hated working with those huge files, no EVF, 1080p120 was very, very soft.

Great sports camera but I didn't love it for the money.  But I'm a hobbyist.

That’s an absolute given, don’t even know why do you mention that

I thought it'd be given on the a7sII, which came out after the a72 and a7r2.  That's why I will mention it - should have been in the last version.

It s because they reused the same sensor on the a7s/a7sII, DPAF is partially built in the sensor, they did that to save cost.

but we will get a new sensor for sure on the a7sIII, so we will also get DPAF.

I could see Sony reusing the existing A7sII 12MP sensor and updating the memory slots, battery, menu and a couple other new tweaks and calling it a day.  Got to save something for the A7sIV you know...

It will have PDAF for sure. I personally like the cleaner more detailed image from oversampling, as well as the possibility of shooting s35 mode from a sensor like that of the a7 III.

Loving the new avatar btw! ?

Well, the a7rII and a7ii both had PDAF while the a7S2 didn't (and was released after those two.  Don't know if it's a foregone conclusion.  Dual card slots, updated battery is.

  11. Don't think I've seen this in this thread, but first and foremost I need PDAF AF in video mode; not the slow CDAF that was in a7S+a7sII.  Second, I'd love to see that super high slowmo enabled that they have in the 1" sensor cameras and the FS700/FS5 - the 1080/240.  How great would non-cropped full frame 1080/240 be?  Third, a flip out screen would be great.

Do we even care if it's 12 or 20 megapixels?  I don't.  A7s in a pinch took wonderful stills.  I don't need it to be a landscape camera...

  12. I'll go for the z6 with the non-binned FF 4k.  Not thrilled with their native lens options, but sure love the videos I'm seeing so far.  Hate the 1 card slot, but hey - I can't do 1.0x - 1.8x crop in 4k.  It'll be a great "for fun" camera to play with for $2k.  Just wish they'd make it available already...:)

Oh, and thank you Andrew Reid for hosting this site and having a great thread to read more about all this gear on.  We (I) may not say it enough, but we appreciate what you do for the community....

I always hear people say this but I found the log profile and the codec on that camera to be well below my expectation. The Nikon d5500 flat profile I found to have the same or better dynamic range when doing comparisons.  Although the c100 was sharper, especially in low light.

I owned a couple of them and shot a ton with them.  I was always happy with how easy I could get the footage to look how I wanted.

  14. 6 minutes ago, Andrew Reid said:

Yes N-LOG is external only, so no internal LOG recording like a Sony, which is a bit silly. However the Flat profile is excellent.

Nikon's reasoning is that you need 10bit for LOG and an Atomos. I'm not so sure. Canon LOG works pretty well in 8bit doesn't it?

Sure does.  That C100 II LOG is easy to grade and looks amazing.  Sad to hear this, but if they have a flat profile I think I'll be ok.  Going to buy my first Nikon ever and I'm almost 45 (two weeks away..:)

Unless of course the a7sIII has a flip out screen and does 4k60.  Then I'll be as confused as ever.  I did buy your Sony color profile - I just can't ever get the colors how I like them.

The Nikon Z cameras can currently take-

    Nikon Z lenses

    Nikon F lenses.

The Sony E mount cameras can currently take-

    Sony E

    Sony A

    Nikon F

    Canon FD

    Canon EF

    Pentax K

    Minolta MC/MD

    Leica M

    Leica R

Contax G lenses and many more besides.

There will likely  be adapters allowing MF for various mounts for the Z pretty soon but I am not so sure there will be AF adapters for them anytime soon.

I sort of meant the entire Nikon lenses should work almost as native with the adapter - video AF being a key part of what's important.

Stalin would not be out of place on a pro video camera forum ;);)

I don't read sites that honor and pay homage to that monster...that's where I draw the line.  Hacking a GH2 firmware does not equal pro video.  Spoken like a true camera nerd / reviewer / blogger.

    (I kid) :)

  17. This has certainly been an interesting read.  Was going to figure out a way to say I had gotten invited to the BM meeting in Manchester and show I had a 4k BM camera in hand, but I tossed both in the rubbish bin.

I generally try to make jokes when people are angry.  It's what I do.

Right or wrong though guys - had we seen Andrew in Hawaii last week at the Canon PR launch of the R - I think we'd have all puked.  Well, if he came on "not" saying how awful it was.  Andrew is a guy we want telling it like it is....that's why I come here.

I stopped going to the PersonalView website years ago when he basically started a "shrine" thread to Josef Stalin.  Man was responsible for more deaths that Hitler...

Gee, I was always impressed by the HD image of the D750, later very impressed by the quality of the the 850s video in 4K. With Nikons new babies we get all that FF glory and Nikon colors and robust codec in external 10bit now and some new LOG format.

All that with IBIS and many mirrorless goodies in FF size. I´m super exited! Exited to see what you guys gonna do with it! :)

Nikon is the only camera maker I've never, ever owned.  I think I want a Z6 now after reading this thread.  It's like a more robust Sony with more lens options and better build quality / better colors.
