  1. I did a shoot with EOSHD settings on both the a7iii and a7sii and I find they are nearly identical imo. Easy to match anyhow.
  2. I should have posted my review here...
  3. Just got back from a shoot and used the A7iii. Let me know if you have any questions!
  4. OMG I am!!! I started cutting in Resolve a few months ago and I am never going back! Honestly, just the way the grading and speed ramping works, it saved me 1/3 of my time not to mention the file conforming. I am going to give 15 a shot soon too. Honestly, BRAVO Blackmagic. Your team is amazing!
  5. I haven't seen La Soufriere, but I will definitely watch it! Thanks for the kind comment. Herzog is amazing! Sure, I'll be honest. Due to being inundated with other projects, this doc was always being queued last to edit (which is why it took a year to release). We unfortunately didn't get picture lock until two days before the release. So during those two days I did colour and sound. It wasn't much time and I am not totally happy with the results. That aside, what I did to save time was that I would pick one shot from each day and match each camera to it. I then would use that preset to start grading the other clips. It worked out fairly well, but we weren't diligent enough about colour balance throughout the shoot. As for sound, we had a ton of wind issues throughout the shoot. I am not sure how much more you can prevent this when you are run and gun. I would LOVE to have a sound person on the shoot. That would have made things so much better. Also, for the next time I would definitely hire a colourist and a sound mixer. We just found out that we got into one of the film festivals that we applied for so I will definitely revisit sound and colour now. It was really difficult when we found out the dates changed. At the time we felt satisfied with the footage that we got from the beginning of the ceremony. At the time we felt that maybe we would go down the road of not mentioning that the dates had changed. I mean, it was the ceremony. We would just miss the final parts which are apparently similar to what we filmed. Ultimately in the end we felt that this resulted in a better ending and definitely a more truthful ending. Also, it was really important for us to show the viewer that the 9-5 day doesn't exist in a lot of the world. These people are used to things changing like that. They don't care about clocks
  6. I had the 501 and went to the smallHD Focus. The resolution is better on the 501, but other than that, for what I do the focus is much better. Quicker to operate and much easier to see in daylight.
  7. Wow that looks amazing! I would love to see the full documentary. To answer your question, I think the reason that I am so drawn to desert landscapes is because I am scared of them. I great up in the forest and feel at home there, but the desert? Whoa, I can't even comprehend how people live there. Yet alone waking up to a giraffes and hyenas etc.. right outside your door.
  8. Thanks, ya they have such different lives. It is really different from Canadian living
  9. This is the first documentary that I have done. It was shot on Sony A7sii, Panasonic GH5, Sony Rx100m4 and a Phantom 4 pro. Would love to hear your thoughts! Editing a 30 minute piece is soooo much work. I applaud people who work in this format every day!
  10. I spoke with someone from Zhiyun last night and they mentioned that they are making a follow focus attachment and it will be coming out soon. I also have a Crane 2 coming in today so let me know if you have anything you want me to check out. I will be reviewing it in the next week.
  11. I filmed this last year with a Sony A7sii + 28mm F2 and a 50mm f1.4 + Phantom 4. Let me know if you have any questions!
  12. Thanks. Ya I saw this and set them to off. I wish that was the problem!
  13. I think it's looking for a line level yes. It sounds fine when it is plugged into the stereo in, but when I plug into the dual channels (unbalanced 1/4") the level is too low. Not sure what I am doing wrong....
  14. I need help trying to input two Rodelink wireless lavs to the H5. I have tried to input with a 1/8" to 1/4" connector, but it comes in very low even with a +20db gain off of the rodelink. Does anyone run with this system or can tell me how I can do it please? Here are the links the the products that I am using: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&O=&Q=&c3api=1876%2C72666235682%2C%2C&gclid=Cj0KCQjw0K7NBRC7ARIsAEaqLRH7apj7aT70QzJZhMBMkdTbWe7yVGo6U07o3adhebUhxORgLhupMskaAsLwEALw_wcB&is=REG&pcur=CAD&sku=1115091 https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1026852-REG/zoom_h5_handy_recorder.html
  15. Haha, ya maybe I should. Working with dogs definitely does take skill! Thanks so much. Ya I had another comment about the colour being off at 1:06 for those scenes. I would love to hear about other spots and how to correct them. Sadly, the last thing that gets done on these projects is the colouring and sound. Not much time left to work on it, but I would love to improve so let me know if you have any recommendations!
  16. For sure. We planned on a couple of days and it turned out to take 7 days. Lot's of effort for sure!
  17. Thanks Jon. Probably one of the more difficult videos I have had to film. Hard to make a dog do what you storyboarded haha
