We had a lot of fun making this one, three people in crew in total and a £500 budget for all the extras (props location etc) the kit is our own
Animation took a long time, and VHS style was tough to build! Happy to answer questions on production if anyone is interested!

Nope. If you're stuck in that loop, another camera is not going to get you out of it.

I'm in your camp on this. There are so many positives to what Sony is doing with these cams, but from what I've seen so far from the A7s and the A7rII i'd rather save up and spend the extra cash on the mini Ursa, if it ever comes out ;-) wink, wink. I love the low light abilities and small form factor of the Sony cams, and am super tempted to replace my D800 with an A7RII for stills/B Cam, but the image in BM cams trumps all sony cams to me. I know this is all in everyone's personal opinion, but to me image is first, all the other stuff, even if kind of a PITA is workable. I may change my mind as more comes out from this cam, as I don't want to be so stubborn to not see the reality, but I can spot Sony footage immediately, and that isn't that great of a thing.

I wanted to bring up one thing that happened to me yesterday shooting with the Gh4 and the BMCC Speedbooster. I've been using this combo since the GH4 came out without issue, but yesterday I was filming an event with very challenging lighting combinations so I used Custom White Balance. This may be common knowledge to some of you, but if you have Electronic Shutter on, when you try to set a Custom White Balance, that mechanical shutter activates, you hear the click and real the vibrations and realize you have a BMCC Speedbooster attached. My SP ended up stuck on my GH4, and received a message over a white screen that read something like "Turn off the camera and turn it on again" but that did nothing and I still could not remove the SB only more clicks each time. Frustrated and bummed out, I set it down and wen to sleep. The next day I had another shoot, so I went t put my GH4 away and went for the BMPCC instead, but when I went to move the GH4, I decided to give it one last try. Speedbooster came off without hesitation. All I can say is, don't use Custom White Balance, if using a BMCC Speedbooster. If it's common knowledge, I apologize, but I didn't know this.

I have to disagree with many posts here. I went with the cheap adapters in the beginning. Mainly because I could not afford a more expensive one. I'm not saying that expensive is always better, but if your adapter doesn't fit or becomes loose in a short time because it is cheaply made you are going to regret it. Mid-shot while you're adjusting your aperture ring your shot is going to be ruined by any play in rotation. I bought a Novoflex a few years ago with my GH3 and would never buy a cheap adapter again. This adapter still works perfectly and fits like a glove. Perhaps others have gotten lucky, but I personally wouldn't chance it. Not sure if there are better options these days, but aside from a Metabones adapter for specific reasons that would be my go-to for sure.

Besides 12 bit RAW and 10-bit prores with 13 stops of dynamic range, better rolling shutter, and WAY nicer color?

Great post, Andrew. As an animator, I enjoyed reading the comparison of filmmaking and animation. For me the individuality of animation, especially if you work for yourself, is definitely the thing that sets it apart from filmmaking. This isn't to say you cannot be an individual in filmmaking, as I know I've been incredibly moved and inspired by some, but your point and the fact that so many are so worried about which camera, is it filmic, which LUT, how much rolling shutter, sensor isn't large enough, blah blah blah leaves the typical filmmaker in a world of hang-ups. In animation, your characters can be stick figures with squiggle motion, your world can be upside down, rolling shutter can be an effect your meant and dust on the lens is added for that one extra touch. I know because I've been caught up in the filming hangups myself, but I sure am glad I can set it aside when I want and just go create some characters. It certainly is freeing.

Flatter doesn't always = nicer tonality especially in an 8bit codec and skin has a lot of gentle variation in tone. Better to have a steeper curve and contrast to bring out the colour. Otherwise it can go a bit muddy and weird.
CineV with the black levels brought up is great.
CineD is a bit weird for my tastes.

I can tell you that ATT was horrible when I had u-verse. Streaming video was always buffering, even when I paid more. I switched to Cox here in San Diego, and haven't had the problem with AppleTV streaming or Vimeo since.

Sadly, I get most of my shooting ideas from used lenses/equipment I find at Goodwill on work breaks.  If you have a "thrift" store nearby, or flea-market, take a quick tour.  It's all about timing.  If you find a lens, you can buy a $20 adapter and shoot with most any camera covered on EOSHD.  Here are some of my finds over the past year.  Nikon D80 and 18-105 VR zoom $17 (yep, I kid you not), Sekonic Spot Flash meter (first version, good enough for me!) $5, Vivatar 28mm lens $7, a few 50mms, around $10 each, various zooms, same price.  A set of 4 Topcors for $95.  Tripods for about $5 each.  Various lights $5 to $10.
Once I have a new/old anything I go out and shoot something with it--a fire hydrant or any family member I can trap
Also, there are always very interesting people milling around thrift stores.  I'm not a street shooter, but if I was, lots of material there.
