OzNimbus reacted to Bioskop.Inc in RJ jinfinance Focal Reducer
So my RJ M42toM4/3 adaptor arrived 30mins ago & all seems fine.
Slapped a few lenses on it - a couple of Super Taks (35 + 55) & a couple of Russains (Mir-24M + Helios 44-2).
Well as expected they get a lot wider & faster now on the BM Pocket.
Sharpness wideopen does have some roll off towards the edges, but this could be due to the lenses.
Stopped down a little & they do appear to be tack sharp.
No blue spot so far...
For the price all is good.

This will be THE video camera for doing sex tapes :)

OzNimbus reacted to johnnymossville in Check out the First Short Film Shot on the 4K Panasonic GH4: Does high resolution = video-ish image
I'm tired of hearing the videoish thing. but hey, if it helps canon fanbois sleep at night it's ok with me.

OzNimbus reacted to johnnymossville in Sony A7S rolling shutter test
That's not rolling, that's twisting. They outta see if Chubby Checker music is available for the tv commercials.

OzNimbus reacted to Andrew Reid in Blackmagic respond to EOSHD about supporting existing cameras - audio levels and histograms on the way!
Here is the proof.
Maybe I should not be so vocal about defending the interests of people who, in fact, absolutely hate my guts like a small minority of Blackmagic forum users.

OzNimbus reacted to thedest in Beautiful 4K Blackmagic Production Camera footage from James Miller
And here is a 4K framegrab graded by me from an original ProRes file from the Blackmagic Production Camera.
It was graded to recreate a "real life" look, with enough blacks, lift/gamma/gain, saturation and local contrast
CLICK HERE TO SEE IT IN 4K: '>
The amount of detail IS amazing. You can see the dials from that womans clock. But then again, you need to bring it to life in post.
If anyone is interested, I can share the original graded video, with no youtube recompression.

OzNimbus got a reaction from maxotics in Sony A7R review - does it replace a DSLR or Micro Four Thirds camera?
Loving my A7. The Video really is crap, but it's amazing on stills. Currently rocking a 20mm Nikon f4, Super Tak 35, Konica 40 (damn, is that thing sharp) Minolta 45, Nikon pre-ai 50 1.4, and Nikon AiS 85 F2. Still waiting on my FD adapter.
If you shoot stills, this thing is amazing. If you want video, get a Pocket Cam.

OzNimbus got a reaction from Sebastien Farges in SAMPLES PART TWO ! Sony A7 + Bolex Anamorphic
Absolutely gorgeous! I must try this some time with my A7, however, I only have the 8/19/1.5 so I imagine I'll need a pretty long taking lens.

OzNimbus reacted to Andrew Reid in Grant Petty reveals origins of Blackmagic cameras (concept was offered to major manufacturers)
That is true, they're not just shit some of the time but shit all of the time.

OzNimbus reacted to Sean Cunningham in Grant Petty reveals origins of Blackmagic cameras (concept was offered to major manufacturers)
No argument there. It would cost twice as much and come with a shitty codec. They'd fill it up with BS and create a half dozen models with meaningless, incremental differences between them and none containing all of the features most asked for. Something like what we have.
Not that it matters to anyone but I don't want them in this market. All I've ever pointed out is how effortless it would be for them to have done it if they wanted to. The BMD cameras are far simpler devices than the $300 Rebel at BestBuy that's essentially designed to be crap so that someday you'll buy one that's maybe less crap...but still crap.

OzNimbus got a reaction from Damphousse in Are anamorphic's days numbered?
Used hook's lut in resolve, then a little FC after. I directed the color stuff, a buddy directed the zombie shots. I specifically shot mostly close up & intimate with the band to take advantage of that anamorphic space. Lots going on in the de-focused z axis :) -
OzNimbus got a reaction from Damphousse in Are anamorphic's days numbered?
Shot this a few weeks back in 50d ML raw & a Bolex Anamorphic. Wouldn't change it for anything.

OzNimbus got a reaction from JohnBarlow in Latest music video: Anamorphic zombies on hacked 50d
Shot this in 3:2 on the 50d running magic lantern raw with the Bolex anamorphic lens. The 50d was a real pain to work with, the firmware is still fairly unstable & would usually take several tries on each shot to get the camera recording "continuous." There have been a few firmware updates since this was shot & that seems to have stabilized things a bit, but it's not rock-solid reliable yet, IMO.
Anyway, the raw video was nice to work with in post: Tons of latitude & just plain good looking. The 3:2 aspect worked perfect with the Bolex as it's a 1.5X squeeze.
Enjoy!

OzNimbus got a reaction from maxotics in Open letter to Japanese manufacturers on the enthusiast video market - improve or lose it
Fwiw, shooting raw video on my 4 year old 50d blows the doors off anything "current" with h264. That includes my hacked gh2. Andrew is correct: the big Japanese camera manufacturers need to innovate or get the fuck out of the way. -

The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema camera is a wake-up call to the bigger manufacturers and their afterthought video modes.

OzNimbus got a reaction from Francisco Rios in Bolex anamorphic & Magic Lantern raw.
Hey gang,
Got a couple of clips for you.... I've been putting my Canon 50D through it's paces with the Bolex 8/19/1.5 anamorphic. It teams up real well with a Nikon 50mm f1.8 lens. My only gripe is that there is no articulating screen! Makes dual focus tripod shots in bright sunlight a total pain in the ass.

OzNimbus reacted to Julian in It lives! 5 year old $350 Canon 50D becomes raw cinema monster
Check out the findings on the ML forums.
I found out you get actually better speeds with Globa Draw turned on.
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5586.msg45003#msg45003
We can really get the maximum out of the 50D now! 1592x896 (16:9) recording at 24 fps is completely stable without drops.
3:2 recording at 1592x1062 is possible without drops with 1000X cards - (My 90MB/S Sandisk is the bottle neck here)
Anamorphic resolutions like 1320x1062 and 1440x1062 are perfectly doable without frame drops! Love it

OzNimbus reacted to mattlundstrom in The impact of 5D Mark III raw and what does Vincent Laforet think of it?
"C Series and other cameras are what people should be focusing on"
I'm shocked, SHOCKED, that a man sponsored by Canon who's main focus in the last 6 months has been to convince the public that the C series is where it's at would speak against the mother of all hacks that completely undercuts the value of the C series of cameras.

OzNimbus reacted to Andrew Reid in BIG NEWS - Hands on with CONTINUOUS raw recording on Canon 5D Mark III
This philosophy is much more interesting to me, than the mundane practicalities of workaday filmmaking, where reliability is a priority and the image just has to be 'good enough'.
Give me melting image processors any day.
JG yeah Red Code is awesome. Very flexible for many people.
