I was just about to say that the white car makes the perfect bounce.

Good to know the new camera has IBIS... doubtful you held that monster lens on a close up steadily without it.

I think the real question is... what camera was the BTS shot taken with? And are you contractually obligated to say a Panasonic? Lol.

And is the robot’s name Eva One?

Absolutely not contractually obligated but they sent us 2x GH5's for the previous video and that's all we use now.  So this is using a GH5 :)

  2. Hypothetically, even if I had access to something that other people don't, I wouldn't utilize AF so my opinion wouldn't be of much use anyways.

Generally, it seems companies spread out "feature showcasing" across the videos.  For instance, "Beyond the Grid" was supposed to show off the 10bit and the IBIS (specifically), so the grading was a little more aggressive and some shots were handheld at 60fps etc.  They didn't ask us to highlight the 4K60, that was someone else's job.

If we consider ***** **** a mere distraction - just as clinging to our sordid earthly ways prevents us from attaining true enlightenment - the title of Mr. Neumann’s short, The Middle Path, refers unmistakably to the Noble Eightfold Path, a series of Buddhist practices and mindsets that will lead one to the liberation from samsara. And therein lies the key - eightfold - on which Panasonic is pinning its hopes to free the unwashed masses. Hence 8K, which, downsampled, will reduce to  nought the noise and artifacts which for so long have clouded our perception and hindered our spiritual growth.

    This made my day.

  4. Horrid compression here but this is with the Master Anamorphic at T 1.9.  So sharp and flawless wide open that it's alarming.  These lenses cost a fortune for a reason, they defy logic and reason in their performance. If you can pull it, work them into the budget through Brainbox Cameras, they were the only place I found that will rent you a SINGLE lens (most require the full set which becomes incredibly spendy).  Rent on a weekend and you get three days for one day rate.  I chose the 35mm because I love wider anamorphics.  I believe Brainbox splits up all of their anamorphics.  In my experience with rental houses it's rare.  Just thought I would share this info for those that might be interested.

Any tips for getting less compression here?

I stand corrected. Pretty amazing that the GH5 can turn you off to your Red set up, but I get it.

However, I still think you should be making feature films with an Alexa.

I wouldn't mind spending more time with an Alexa but it's just so heavy and bulky...worse than a RED!  Also features don't jive with my ADHD, episodic and docs are where my heart lives for narrative work.  If we had the crew it would probably be Alexa though, I have always loved the look.

Trying to give thanks for the important things in life today.  Friends, family, and lenses that cost 1,524.8% more than your camera.

  6. Already dropped it actually.  The difference in quality doesn't justify the price difference anymore for me.  We aren't studio shooters or anything like that so a RED was way overkill to begin with.  Then we were forced (more or less) to use the GH5 on the launch video and it made me wake up to the fact that the low-mid level cameras now have enough to justify using them over a high end camera.  Really, if we kept shooting RED it would be for appearances only.

I love the RED image and the codec and all of that but I hate the $20,000+ price difference.  Just not a value anymore.

  7. I honestly don't know if RAW is being added to the GH5 or not.

It would be great if it was though!

Different cameras do different things. Sony cameras have the low light capability and that is one of their main calling cards.  The GH5 is more "all around" in my opinion.

    Its a beast!

Super cool! You guys have done so much awesome and motivating and inspiring stuff over the years!

So you are avoiding to give us penny pinchers promises on GH5 HD RAW mode or full VLOG curve. Is that a sign you are giving, which we can misinterpret? :)

Thanks man, I appreciate that a lot!

I really can't say much other tha...you know, this might require a new thread. Take from that what you will ?

Luke, I rather watch your science fiction shortfilm instead. Unless you are really talking about a very few more weeks. :) Full VLOG curve instead of L for the GH5? HD RAW mode- should be piece of cake if DJI Osmo did it? Awesome BTS video on your science fiction film as well! Thanks a lot!

Soon as in Friday/Saturday/Sunday for production.  This will be a sci-fi as well!

  10. It's like playing the lottery.  Number 1 has a very small chance of bringing you a huge return.  It also has the chance to bring nothing.  Number 2 has less of a ceiling.  It's the "safe" pick.  So it should depend on how much you need the money and whether you're in a position to be risky (if that's even part of your personality).

Generally, I am a risk taker so I would go with the first choice, but only if I had the financial security (within reason) to do so.

  11. Yup, shorter hours means fresh actors. Just do fewer takes.  Take your time on the cinematography for shots that matter but also gauge the mood of the cast/crew.  If you have moved quickly and have bought some time, set up that cool shot...if not, don't waste your time. The only person that benefits from that cool shot is you.  I have learned all of this stuff the hard way, lol. Perfectionism can come in Editing.  If you spend too much time on the perfect shot you will come away with 10 seconds of usable footage from a 4 hour day.  Just not worth it over the long haul.  Accumulate footage for editing...that's all production is.
