  1. Wrap stabilizer cannot work with proxies of different resolution. You can do all the editing with proxies and apply the warp stabilizer at the end after you moved to the original files.

I haven't experienced any other issues with lower resolution proxies. Is there anything else?

If you set an upscale won't it upscale also the original files when you replace them?

  2. Hi,
now that Premiere supports h.265 I'm far away from my modern desktop PC which could handle 4k editing and I'm stuck with my slow notebook and I need to edit these 4k nx1 files. Even though my CPU supports h.265 HW decoding Premiere does not so not even the simple playback is possible.
I tried to convert in 4k prores and h.264 but the result is similar, I was thinking to edit in maybe 720p mpeg2, the problem is AFAIK Premiere has always caused problems with proxies for projects at different resolutions. I remember that if you create a 720p project with 720p proxy files than you can't later convert it in 4k with 4k native files the opposite goes if you edit 720p files in a 4k project (upscaled) and then replace the footage, you would create problems with effects like warp stabilizer.

    So do you have suggestions?

  3. Regarding 1), you can go by feeling which is probably not really accurate. What I do is set it to wide open and look at shutter speed & ISO, then I close down and count the stops by watching how the shutter speed and/or ISO changes. Is obviously takes a few seconds to set, depending on how quick you're with maths in your head. Another pragmatical possibility would be to just set the ISO fixed or set the AutoISO to the maximal acceptable value and then disregard f/stop and just open and close as much as possible without going into the underexposure warning.

I've seen the Samsung 18-200mm used in like new condition for 400 € yesterday on a German photography forum. I guess seeing how you're so sure you need a lens like that I'd rather bite the bullet and get a good priced used one than use an adapted superzoom with manual focus.

I tried to find it used but seems like nobody has it for sale! The first tip is great thanks :)

  4. Hi,
I'm looking to use multi purpose manual lenses in Nikon mount for NX1 for pictures. Like a 18-200mm from Sigma (because the native Samsung's is too expensive/discontinued) and I'm having problems with the following:

    1) how do you set a specific apertures like f/8 if you just have a ring on the adapter?
    2) is it possibile to get manual focus peaking always on instead of pressing the "set" button every time?

  5. How does Samsung 16-50 compare (f/2 apart) to other lenses on the same range made by Nikon Sigma etc? Is it really worth the money?

  6. So I took advantage of the crazy deal here in Switzerland and apparently I got one of the last ones.

I have a question regarding 4k vs uhd.

From what I gathered online 4k apparently has a little less rolling shutter than uhd, but uhd is supposed to be a little sharper.

I tested both and I can't tell the difference in image quality.

They both have the same horizontal FOV, uhd having more room in the height. Uhd also has more height framing adjustments possibilities if you crop to 2.35:1.

Since there is no horizontal FOV gain with the 4k mode,  I don't see the advantage of shooting 4k over uhd? I could not tell visually that the image was higher res as well.

appreciate some input on this thanks

    what deal?

  7. Marco.

    1) I was clearly describing the 1080p in my post. That is the question I was answering.

    2) In your shots, especially the cute baby, there is a huge amount of compression evident in the shadows. Especially the skin tone on the arm and on the right side of his face in shadow. For web at 720p it will look fine, but not even close to good in 4K.

I love my NX1, but lowlight is a significant weakness.

yup lowlith is its weokaness but it bet it could be improved if they didn't apply that heavy NR.

  8. I don't want to sound negative, but what you are looking for will be pretty bad on any camera system, it's only a question of "good enough". These super-zooms are made for convenience, not for absolute image quality. If you shoot for web galleries or comparable use, all of them are sufficient and so will be the samsung 18-200 I would think.

I well aware of that. I guess the price is so high because they have a monopoly for the NX system.
