  1. The FZ1000 is also coming with a 1" sensor and 4K video. It looks like Panasonic will be pushing 4k across the whole line this year. http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-first-image-of-the-superzoom-and-1-inch-sensor-panasonic-fz1000/
  2. The LX7 had a multi-aspect sensor as well. If they stick with 12mp it could be a nice alternative.

    RX100M3 topic

The latest rumors have the Panasonic LX8 coming next month with a 1" sensor, EVF and 4K video for $900. With the latest Panasonic codec this would be an interesting camera.

    RX100M3 topic

dpreview just posted an update of their RX100iii review and included image grabs from the video. You can compare with other camera image grabs including the original RX100, A7 and GH3. http://***URL removed***/previews/sony-cybershot-dsc-rx100-m3/6
  5. Reducing to 12mp and a faster processor would improve chances of full sensor read-out in a small body. That should make a big difference in video quality.
  6. Some pictures and more details. http://www.dvinfo.net/article/acquisition/nab2014-jvc-demonstrates-four-new-4k-large-sensor-cameras-for-digital-cinema.html
  7. Here are the sensor specs that were announce 10 days ago. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/altasens-introduces-4k-and-beyond-sensor-252786951.html
  8. Here are some more details. http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/36/818729 The first two prototypes signal JVC’s entry into the digital cinematography marketplace. The GY-LSX1 is a 4K shoulder-mount cameras equipped with a Super 35mm sensor and PL lens mount. The GY-LSX1 delivers full 4K imagery at up to 60p, as well as HD imagery at up to 240p for super slo-mo application. Also on display is the GY-LSX2, a handheld unit that uses Micro Four Thirds (MFT) lenses originally developed for DSLRs to deliver cinema-quality images in a compact camcorder. Both cameras feature a new 13.6 MP 4K CMOS image sensor developed by JVC’s sister company, AltaSens. The new image sensor is also being integrated into a two-piece mini 4K camera, the GW-SPLS1. The tiny camera delivers full 4K performance, records to SDHC media, and offers IP control and viewing. The final prototype represents potentially disruptive technology that could literally change the ENG landscape. JVC has two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in its booth equipped with the new GW-GBLS1 small-head camera gimbal systems. The system features a high-quality 4K small camera unit with a Super 35mm CMOS sensor that delivers 4096x2160or 3840x2160 resolution at up to 60p. Housed in a gimbal designed with proprietary technology developed by JVC, the camera records footage locally to SDXC or SDHC media cards. However, the base of gimbal also houses technology that has the same IP capabilities as the GY-HM890. So, while the camera produces images suitable for cinematic applications, the system also has applications for broadcast news. In the case of a breaking news event, for example, a news station could launch a UAV over the scene and have live aerial coverage of the event transmitted back to the station in full HD resolution – without a news helicopter. There are plenty of UAV cameras on the market, but none have the IP-based technology to deliver a live news report like the GW-GBLS1.
  9. It looks like it will have a Super35 size sensor. They showed 2 prototypes. One was a handheld 4k camera size and the other a modular 4k camera with 4k recorder. That is based on my limited understanding of the following link. http://translate.google.com/translate?depth=1&hl=en&ie=UTF8&prev=_t&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.jvckenwood.co.jp/press/2014/04/press_140407.html
  10. Sony is also releasing a A7S (not silver) on Sunday. It is interesting that they are announcing it at NAB. Maybe a video focused A7. The A7/A7R will continue to sell along site the A7S.
  11. Canonrumors said nothing new is coming at NAB. We'll see who got it right. http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/03/much-ado-about-nothing-at-nab-2014-from-canon/ "We’re told by various folks that Canon will make some announcements of non camera items that won’t be a big deal to most people. It looks like a quiet NAB from Canon for the second year in a row."
  12. That could change now that the GM1 can be ordered with 15mm f1.7.
  13. I found this GH4 4k video on vimeo. You can download the original MOV file.
  14. The V3 has no AA filter according to Imaging-resource. We'll see what impact that has on video. Not sure why they went with the MicroSD card.
  15. It certainly looks nicer than the previous V1/V2. I wonder if they will release the 70-300 at the same time.
  16. It looks like Sony has significantly improved Continuous AF based on this video.
  17. That makes sense since the Extreme cards are only rate to 45Mb/s. You may want to correct your article as only the PRO cards are rated to 95Mb/s and you say that the 95Mb/s cards won't work. Also, the UHS-I PRO card doesn't do 280Mb/s, that is reserved for the UHS-II cards.
  18. " According to Eduardo Angel who is shooting with a prototype GH4, their current top end consumer card (Sandisk Extreme 95Mb/s) didn’t take the 4K." I didn't see anything in that link to suggest the Sandisk Extreme 95Mb/s card doesn't work with 4K on the GH4. He actually recommends using that card. Is the Micro-HDMI limitation for 4k related to the HDMI standard or is this related to what Panasonic allowed for the GH4? I was also surprised that the GH4 didn't support UHS-II like Fuji's recently announced X-T1.
  19. GH4 Hands on leaked. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:rZ3Aie5JGI0J:www.whatdigitalcamera.com/equipment/reviews/compactsystemcameras/129786/1/panasonic-lumix-dmc-gh4-first-look.html+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=nz
  20. It looks like Panasonic is getting serious. http://www.43rumors.com/first-panasonic-gh4-images/ - 16,05 Megapixel sensor. It’s a new sensor with semi-conductor protection tech to reduce noise and improved dynamic range. - quad core processor and venus Engine - ISO up to 25,600. - 12fps, 7,5 fps with continuous focusing - GH4 uses the new UHS I class III SD card format - Depth From Defocusing (uses Panasonic lens database to fine tune AF!) - AF as fast as 0.07 seconds. 49 AF points. - 4K video at 4096×2160 pixels and max frame rate of 96fps. - Bit rate of up to 200Mbp - Magnesium body - Price not unveiled yet - There is an optional Interface Unit (see image below). Has 2 XLR, 4 SDI, micro HDMi output, color bar signal, audio reference signal, external time control
  21. Gordon Laing compared the GM1, E-M1 and RX100ii.
  22. For video I would agree that FF lenses are a good investment. As we move away from DSLRs to mirrorless cameras the existing DSLR lenses will struggle in low light for snapshots requiring AF. The on-sensor PDAF will always be limited to brighter seens and as CDAF takes over in low light you will find the DSLR lenses are very slow as they were never designed for fast AF with CDAF.
  23. What about including the RX10 for this comparison?
  24. I understand the GM1 has a different type of shutter mechanism to reduce the size. I wonder is anyone has tried this with the GM1?
