The dimensions of the sensor in the video suggest the GH3 may no longer be using a multi-aspect sensor. That would be an interesting decision if true.

But the Mkiii was just released so it will be 2-3 years before Canon responds. A lot of people may decide not to wait especially when there is no guarantee that Canon will respond.

Sony seems to be the only one willing to cannibalize their own products. Every other camera manufacturer tries to project their higher margin products. The RX100 is another example where Sony put all of the latest processing technology and manual controls in a 1" sensor compact camera. It even has the same menu as the Alpha line. I wish others would do the same.

Thanks Andrew. I will likely get this very soon although 24P and ND filter would have made it perfect.

Unfortunately Canon and Nikon have not developed many prime lenses specifically for their APS-C mounts. At least the FF primes that most own can be used with FF bodies so there is no investment loss (making the switch easier). I wonder if we see any further updates to APS-C mount primes from Nikon and Canon with cheaper FF and mirrorless increasing sales.

I would not get your hopes up on Canon's mirrorless. They are likely to use the hybrid sensor from the 650D/T4. Looking forward to your RX100 review.

I believe it is just easier to have faster sensor readouts on smaller sensors.  The Canon S series could have had great video if they wanted it too. That is why I believe the Nikon 1 series will be the first MILC to have a global shutter.

[/quote] Yes, I think the 650D and G1X tells us alot about the upcoming Canon Mirrorless.  I'll have similar video and overall slow processing.

It'll be interesting to see how Panasonic (GH3) and Sony (NEX-8?) respond.  Will they pull a Canon too?

I am very excited about the camera.  Almost the same size as my Canon S90 and can replace my HX9V as well.  This would be great for a pocketable travel camera. The 20mp doesn't worry me as it has been shown that a 20mp sensor image scaled down to 10mp would have the same noise as a 10mp sensor using the same sensor technology.  The only negative is slower processing and larger files for RAW.  But you do get some more cropping ability in good light. I also noticed that 16:9 can use more of the sensor width (multi-aspect).  I wonder how close this is to 3x3 pixel binning for 1080p video.
