Been using the GH6 with the cheap 7artisans 24mm 1.4. I really like the lens, are there any other 7artisans hidden gems?

Jordan is filming on Aizu primes in his bedroom. These are $8000 lenses for a YouTube talking head So he's a guy who knows a thing or two about creativity. But the cameras they have picked for this video make you wonder whether the fundamental judgement is there or not. They must have had their hands on just about every camera now, so aren't lacking in experience. The Nikon Df is also in their slagging off list along with the lovely X-Pro3! The Df... That's a bloody wonderful little tool to use, a pure pleasure and hands down the best optical viewfinders you can get - better than most pro level DSLRs, so unique in that respect. And it's really pretty. The Olympus E-M1X is one of the most ergonomic and nice to hold camera designs ever made. Chris acknowledges this yet it's the main focus of the YT thumbnail Best grip ever, built like a tank, really fast and flawless stabilisation. It stands head and shoulders above the ergonomics of the G9 II or Panasonic full frame bodies of 2026. I just don't get these guys... Dumb as fuck.

Gotta find a retired old dude that's now an aspiring guitarist -- that used to work in production in the 90's and happens to be sitting on a closet full of short ends. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

All music at soundimage.org is now free for commercial use
Eric Matyas replied to Eric Matyas's topic in Cameras
One of my retro-sounding tracks sounds even more retro now: "ROCKIN WITH CAPED CRUSADER CAT" (LoFi) is this week's brand new music track. It's 100% free to use with attribution, just like my thousands of other music tracks and sounds. You can listen to it here: https://soundimage.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Rockin-with-Caped-Crusader-Cat_LoFi.ogg And download it here: https://soundimage.org/action-3/ Enjoy! 🙂 -
Does that mean "wealthy musician" or perhaps musician that has some very handy connections to Kodak ?
-
How about doing a music video for a musician?

good question- looks like 1.85:1 was the norm.Hitchcock sure liked using it https://www.widescreenmuseum.com/widescreen/wingvv1.htm

Was vista vision really a 3:2 aspect ratio like full frame, even if it's for the cinema screen?

Tilta's new auto focus adapter uses follow focus gears to manual lenses
Aussie Ash replied to Aussie Ash's topic in Cameras
If they make an adaptor for Nikon Z is it likely to be PL mount ? At 33 secs he says PL lenses don't cover a full frame sensor so you are limited to APS-C crop mode .Hopefully M42 to PL and Nikon F to PL will give full frame coverage -
most of these cameras were used with film in the academy ratio which had a sound track taking up some of the film.the image size is very close to APS-C.Super 35 did away with the sound track allowing for a larger image on the same size film.

There is a large number of adaptors to PL as the throat inner diameter is 54mm but the older standard mount is only 41 mm here is the ARRI standard to PL adaptor
-
I've never had a reason to research this, but I would assume someone makes an adapter for EF (or whatever) to Arri Standard mount. Use your favorite old lens and buy more film. Who knows you could be opening yourself up to a niche market that's very popular right now... the actual film look.

This video is really cool. The density and scope of info is perfect for a neophyte.

35mm is daunting, but it's not my first time shooting film. It's been decades, but I've rolled 16mm before. I just think it's funny that I'm so frugal about modern digital gear, yet here I am seriously thinking about spending 200x more money to accomplish ... well, let's be totally honest, nothing of substantial IQ advantage! I mean, I bought a EM10III for $300 a few years ago, and that camera will shoot impressive 4K. I can't even get 1 minute of 35mm film shot and scanned for less than that. I'm very amused at how ridiculous this all is.

As this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and you'll likely be overwhelmed with the logistics of using a camera you've never used before + a format you've never used before + a cost per second you've never experienced, my suggestion is to keep it simple and keep it meaningful. My suggestion for lenses.... Go to a rental house and tell them what you're doing and get their recommendations. I'd suggest lenses that are neutral in look, easy to use, reliable, and probably not too heavy / expensive. Perhaps something classic like a set of Zeiss Super Speeds (which were popular for a reason!) etc. My suggestion for shooting..... As this is a never to be repeated thing, I'd suggest shooting people and places and subjects you love. Not only will this be a lower-stress approach, but you'll end up with lots of images that will be relevant for the rest of your life, and perhaps longer for friends and family. Completely secondarily to this, shooting a range of different things will be fun, and it will also be great if you want to nerd out and pixel pee etc, as you'll have a range of different subjects and scenes.

As a poor independent documentarian, we might need to have a talk about the word "affordable." This 35mm film stuff is the deep side of the motion picture pool and I really shouldn't be swimming in it!

Looks like you are seeking 35mm ARRi standard mount .Many of these standard mount lenses have been modernised to PL mount, however there are still standard mount lenses around and more affordable than the same lens in PL.This one is US $850. There is also a 28mm in Schneider and Cooke Speed Panchro 18mm,25mm,32mm,40mm,50mm,75mm

Borisfx you say? Well, since this is a thread about editing, good spot to mention the old Media100. Anyone here know what I'm talking 'bout? That Boris guy was busy in the 1990's. Actually, if you want an old school editor, you can take a journey into the wayback machine and download his media100.com/ Along with the early and buggy versions of Premiere (you can't fault Adobe for staying true to their legacy), the M100 was the system on which a lot of early NLE adopters did corporate work. NTSC, baby! 1/3rd of a megapixel! And all of that plugged into a 68040 motorola Macintosh. BTW, similar chips are in my Amiga/Video Toaster, which I still have and still use it to play "Worms" on it as well as "Pinball Fantasies." My Amiga is right next to my Vectrex Video Game System that I got for Christmas as a 13 year old. Anyone here play Minestorm? Anyway, back to computers: the Video Toaster's NLE, "The Video Flyer," was the biggest POS to ever even try to call itself non-linear-editing. Their horrible attempt at it basically took a nail gun to the coffin of the company's, NewTek, earlier successes -- successes that started in the late 80's. Geeze-Louise, really going into the past now. [insert obligatory "Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk" joke here and also maybe the "Onion on my belt" Simpson's gag]
