5d3 ml in 1x1 uhd mode can only have 2:40:1 and larger aspect ratio, so each frame is 6 MB, so 6 x 24 x 0.7 = 100 MB/s. for 12 bit, 6x24x0.7x1.2= 120 MB/s, for 14 bit, 6x24x0.7x1.4=140 MB/s. so UHD 1x1 24p 2.40:1 14 bit lj92 lossless may be continuous if using fast cards, card spanning, sd card overclocking. so 5d3ml is still relevant. and it is 4k 14 bit, crop ratio 1.3 to 1.4 in uhd 1x1 mode.

with global draw off, 5d3 ml can do uhd 2.40:1 24p 10 bit color depth lj92 lossless ml raw continuously, 8 MB / frame x 24 frames / s x 0.7 (lj92 lossless compression least compression coefficiency) = 140 MB/s < 145 MB/s. maybe 12 bit too in some cases.

some cards like lexar silver can do 100 MB/s, stably at 80 MB/s, this is better than cf card. this makes 650d/700/deosm/100d better than r1mx in terms of data stream writing speed. 5d3 ml has 145 mMB/s, about the same as epic-x, maybe a little less, not much. so 14 bit color depth is more possible with many modes. also, 200d may have a 15-bit mode, the highest in all video camera, including alexa.

Sad, sad, sad. RIP. Who can forget when the Bunkers first met his character, the progressive Michael “Mike” Stivic — the liberal, college-educated son-in-law nicknamed “Meathead” by his conservative father-in-law, another towering character, Archie Bunker — back when he was still an actor, before his filmmaking career? Legends from my coming-of-age years... echoed by many others, whether reading this or not, far beyond these pages. - EAG -

Sad news about Rob Reiner, and his wife, gifted photographer, Michele. The President says he died due to "Trump derangement syndrome" and the "anger he caused others". Writing in a social media post: "[Reiner] has passed away together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as Trump Derangement Syndrome". "He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J Trump" Obviously, I find this troubling on so many levels. A real insight. That he can't even write RIP to one of Hollywood's greatest or send condolences to his family without making it all about himself and implying that Reiner had a mental illness. I think it's time for anyone who voted for him to take a bit of a step back from politics (if capable of that) to think about what they have done and who he is. And if after that you still can't bring yourself to snap out of the cult, but you still happen to be a forum member here I would like to ask you to leave. Hopefully you have already. In contrast here's how Ben Stiller remembers the Spinal Tap director, who like Rob had a comedian father... https://x.com/BenStiller/status/2000441874662961291 "He came out form behind a huge comedic shadow of the great Carl Reiner and being a tv actor to being a a great director who made an incredible run of movies. Spinal Tap is one of the best comedies ever made - and the list goes on. He was a kind caring person who was really really funny." Now there are reports coming from gossip outlets that Reiner and his wife were murdered by their son Nick who is now in police custody. What a shocking Hollywood tragedy and just an awful way for such great souls to go out, who have given us so much. Go and see Spinal Tap 2 everyone. RIP Rob & Michele Reiner.

For a still image? Photons to photos has never measured one - their highest measured DR is between 13 and 14 stops on some Phase One. They have the A7V and the GFX 100 II about equal at ISO 80/100. If you want some landscape photos from my GFX 100 II, I can certainly share a few. For video, it's not exactly a mirrorless (but same sensor as in the mirrorless S1R II), but supposedly the Ronin 4D 8K in DR expansion mode has 16.3 total stops on the cined chart, but like most cameras, a lot less than that at a usable SNR.

It honestly gives me a "plastic feel". I don't know, it's like the texture of the things appearing in the video can't be related to anything "alive", anything that materially exists and so can transmit an impression of actual feeling. And on a side note, that disappearing shoe... The channel's description : H E L P

The high dynamic range (using DGO technology) in the Sony A7 V is for low to middle ISO stills when using the mechanical shutter; DGO is not used for video, and certainly there won't be any 16-stop dynamic range at ISO 3200 or 8000. The claimed 16 stops is likely achieved on a signficantly downsampled ISO 100 still image and criteria based on engineering dynamic range (SNR = 1). Do the EOSHD website and browsers used by visitors support high dynamic range photos on Super Retina XDR and other HDR screens? Otherwise, I'm not sure what the OP is looking to see. Having lower noise can't harm the image and it's up to the user to make use of the higher fidelity, or not make use of it.

I've been away from this forum for a while, since around the time I got my XT3 and thought that was the endgame camera for hybrid shooting. In many ways, I was right, until this summer when it dropped and cracked the screen. The first and hopefully last time I've ever dropped a camera. I sent it away to be repaired, however, after paying the €200 to replace the screen, I went to collect it and was informed by the front desk that they don't actually have the parts for the repair, so they've upgraded me to an XT5 at no extra cost. That's a service I can get behind and they've for sure earned a life-long customer with that! Anyone got any starter tips, or lesser known, but great features to look outfor with this camera?

Don't upgrade a firmware on Sony cameras! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vkh07otLQoU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uP5UYPv9Js Same problems on A7R V, A1...

It worths mentioning G9II, a sort of GH7 in a S5 body.

i still remember that viral video clip taken by gh1 bragging that it can match red one. i personally went the canon and later ml road. i bought 2 brand new g3, hacked one, but sent as gifts. i liked em5's color and ibis.

" Doug JensenApril 27th, 2011 04:55 AM Re: Upcoming hands-on comparison of F3, FS100 and AF100 from Philip Bloom Having used a pre-production FS100 myself, I can agree with most of Phil's impressions of the camera. However, he says " . . . HDMI and it is only 8 bit 422 . . ." I have no way of testing it myself, but I'm pretty sure that is incorrect. I have been told personally by Juan Martinez at Sony USA that the HDMI output is 8-bit 4:4:4. And if you don't have a recorder that can handle 4:4:4, then the camera will automatically send 4:2:2. At least that is what I have been told by the man who should know." FS100 can do hdmi out 8 bit 4:4:4. I have not tried myself yet. I only use hdmi for a monitor.

They are outdated in that they are older cameras that don't have all the bells and whistles of the most modern camera released but in terms of image quality, I think every single one still holds up. I'd very much miss the lack of IBIS and shutter degree, but I could absolutely do my work with three GH3 bodies if I had to and I don't think most people would notice or care. The cons were low light and auto focus (though I still think the GH5's auto focus was usable in real situations despite others proclaiming it to be unusable.) You also needed to hack the GH2 to get the most out of it, so that could be seen as a con for it. The pros? Great IBIS in the cameras that have it (the GH5's IBIS still blows away IBIS in Sony's newest cameras), the battery life was incredible (at least up to the GH5; haven't used the GH6 or 7), no overheating, excellent image quality, decent audio preamps (GH3 on, from my experience), plus you get all the benefits of usinga M43 camera, like the smaller lenses and the ability to adapt anything.
-
There isn't a single camera in the entire GH line that wouldn't be usable today. If you want 4K, you'd need to go GH4 or newer. If you want reliable video autofocus, the only option is the GH7. For the best low-light performance, the GH5s is probably your best bet (though I'm not sure if the GH6 or GH7 have great low light performance). The older models struggled more in low light. With the GH1 and GH2, hacking them for more bitrate is suggested for best quality. The most popular models were the GH2 and GH5, but the GH7 seems also to be well-regarded.
-
are they outdated? which one do you prefer? pros and cons
-
Anyway I'm going to lock the thread, it's been completely wreaked as usual and it would be better to go back to cameras.

I think praising someone that dangerous, with that kind of low moral standing, for being a good at executing a business plan is missing the point, but then each to their own. His PayPal chum is even worse. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/oct/10/peter-thiel-lectures-antichrist
