How on earth do you use MF without focus peaking?

How much focus pulling are you trying to do exactly? I can't think of many scenarios where you would have to pull focus frequently unless you are using the camera in situations that it is not suited too (like trying to film sports on it or something).. Also if you're using it filming children and just want snapshot equivalent videos of your kids.......

Words of [some] Wisdom

-Pulling Focus is difficult. That's why specialists called Focus Pullers exist, and get paid money.

-If you're a one man band, learn your limitations, know them well and practice them.

-If it's outside your limitations, consider changing the shot to suit. (ie: shoot with more DoF, move the camera rather than focus, or split it into multiple shots)

Trying to do anything on my D5200 I am just failing, particularly because you cannot magnify while recording, which is I assume how you would do it. TO me, this basically makes the camera pointless for video?! Can anyone offer some words of wisdom? Thanks!

Depending on the type of shot you are doing you can try focusing before you enter live view mode.

Focus like you are taking a photo... in the bottom left while looking through the eye piece you should have a focus assist dot that appears when you are focused properly on your subject. After you confirm your focus hit live view and record away. That's how I do it on my D7100 so I would assume it should work on the D5200. Hope that helps.
